this is a very nice course., but not perfect 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 6, 2018 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Good Multi holes. When I read the reviews, and that this course was perfect conditions. I felt I had to take the drive north to see it.
you start out with some nice warm up holes and move more into your accuracy holes. by the time you hit the back nine you are getting into your blind basket type holes. They have some decent uphill and one nice down hill throw through the trees..
all in all good course layout.

Cons:

SIGNAGE !!!
look, when you show up, there is a course layout sign, nice. however signage is not where you save money.(NOT implying they were trying to save money on the signs at all, just the lack of a few) the holes all have a advertiser on them. One being the local hardware store with discraft discs. (which in turn when i see this stuff I support and buy another disc). but when throwing blind, visitors NEED to know where to throw. I cannot explain how frustrating it is to spend the bulk of your time looking for the place to throw to. I play for the fun and enjoy the walking. I also am taking my grand kids , and son in law trying to get more into the sport. Paint a arrow on a tree, or mark the tee, with a visual of somewhere you have an idea of throwing to. SPRAY THE IVY!!!! Ivy around concrete tees, one hole had it around the tee.. Heck some of us cannot have the oil on our discs with out catching it. and kids.. well we all know where their discs end up.

Other Thoughts:

I was totally impressed they were able to put brooms on each TEE and them stay. testament to the people playing and working this course. I started playing in the mid 80's up to Vienna park in.
twice a week plus playing different leagues.. you know the fever I am talking about. here is the problem with the regulars..they do not consider visitors lack of knowledge of the area enough. I know from both sides of the coin. standing on the tee of 15, I can only see a basket, ,looking at my phone pic of the sign coming in, and going by the accuracy of the prior holes, I make my tee shot , only to see I have thrown at 16.
the bridges are gorgeous. leading over to another park I guess, because you never play across them.
Again, the way they utilized the property for 18 holes.. very good.. take some bug spray.. take care of the poison ivy.. man it is right there, everywhere.

Loved it! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 26, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Located in a gorgeous park near where I grew up. Having excellent courses here in Lansing, it's pretty spectacular to have a course back home that competes with the likes of Burchfield and Grandwoods.

Baskets look brand new. Colored nicely so you can see them from the tee when you're first learning the course.

Signage is pretty good.

Hole 11 was rather difficult compared to the others. I enjoyed that hole the most as my discs rolled down the hill nicely. Making me smash a disc against my head haha.

Course holds water nicely, as it's been pretty wet and was sprinkling during my round, but not a lick of standing water, just a few moist spots, no mud at all. Bugs were also good, considering I've already donated a couple pints of blood to the Breed a Mosquito Foundation from other courses this year.

Cons:

No "next tee" markers, but that's just me nit picking. Other than hole 1-2, it's pretty obvious where your next tee is.

A couple of the holes, forgot which ones. . . 9&10 I think? Had a razor wire fence to the left of the tee running all the way down the fairway. Bit of a pain in the ying yang to climb over that fence to retrieve my badly thrown disc. My brother in law got a good laugh at it, none the less.

Tees are a little short, but didn't affect me as I don't have a large run up to my drive.

Some rust on a few of the chains on the baskets. Not really a big deal as it was few and far between.

Parking wasn't obvious. A sign would be nice on that corner of US 12 and Jackson Rd. Growing up near there, I always parked near US 12 to enjoy the park. Had to walk about 1/4 mile from there to the REAL parking lot where tee 1 is located.

Other Thoughts:

Fantastic disc golf course making use of the land almost as well as possible. Lacking any bomber holes for the big arms (which I don't have) but overall an amazing course for the area.

I like this course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 2, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I like this park. It is well maintained and this is a great course that is family and beginner friendly. Concrete tees are great. the course is well laid out and easy to find the next hole. it has great variety. the restrooms!

Cons:

You do have to watch out for spectators. There is a good mix of activity at the park and people are curious about disc golf. Just keep an eye on them and remember they don't know disc golf etiquette or how bad a disc hurts when it hits you. If you go in the rough, you are going to spend time looking for your disc.

Other Thoughts:

My hats off to the club building and working on this course. it's going to be one of the best in the state for sure!

Update May 2016 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 14, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The local club has taken it upon themselves with help from the city of Somerset Center to really turn this course into something special! In May 2016 the course had the next 9 baskets installed, turning this into a very nice 18 hole course.

-Very nice park
-18 pins
-5x10 concrete tees at each hole
-Great use of land
-Nice elevation
-New baskets (18 new kingpin baskets, green tops blue bottoms)
-Basketball, Tennis courts close to hole 1 brings a lot of attention to disc golf (have had a lot of people start playing because of this)
-Great mix of tough/challenging and easier/shorter holes
-Has one set of tees marked with signs
-Has some long tees currently being played at league
-Beautiful views of McCourtie Park throughout
-Johnny on the Spot Bathroom

Cons:

This course has only been in the ground about a year, so it's still pretty rough. But the local club have been working hard to raise money for the new pins and have been clearing and cleaning as much as possible to make the experience great! With 18 holes (9 new) there will still be rough to start, as I have seen and helped out. So some of the cons are to be expected.

-Rough can be very rough
-Hole 1 by tennis, basketball course (pro as in it can bring attention to the sport, con being it can get a little noisy around hole 1)
-Not a ton of parking space

Other Thoughts:

I've seen the club members in charge of the course and putting the next 9 holes in the ground. The holes are in, making this an 18 hole course now! May 26,2016. They've been clearing and getting ready for 18 holes soon! As a club they've achieved getting the next 9 pins and are currently raising money for concrete tee pads. They have fundraiser discs for this course and are expecting to add an additional 9 holes turning this into a 27 hole course hopefully by spring of 2017.

Work in Progress 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 1, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice park with lots of hills/trees
New baskets

Cons:

No tee boxes yet
Wooded holes need some serious pruning
Unclear navigation (holes need arrows pointing to next tees)

Other Thoughts:

I played this course with my brother for the first time. We thought we would give this a try instead of our usual round at Heritage Park in Adrian. The course is still very "rough" in that it still needs tee boxes, directions for navigating between holes, and lots of tree trimming. I can see the potential and with some work/tee boxes the course will be solid. Also, the lower (southern) part of the park by the creek has amazing potential. I don't know if the designers/city were considering this, but some epic holes could definitely be created here. If there is anyone involved in this course design please PM me as id like to help with some of the tree/brush work next time im up in the area.
