Beautiful scenery! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 9, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- extra large tee pads, accomdating even the biggest run up
- helpful signage indicating distance, hole location, mandos and OB
- amazing view of the lake on holes 1, 2, 3, and 7
- good mix of shots needed to avoid trees and water.
- some elevation changes

Cons:

- sand gets everywhere
- the wind hates you
- "5 people drown in this lake every year" signs are disconcerting
- no alternate tee positions, or hole positions
- tournaments often close the course on weekends

Other Thoughts:

The first time I ever played this course, I fell in love after the first three holes. I had no idea there were such beautiful vistas to be had on a disc golf course. I enjoy the risk/reward to throwing big hyzers over the water on six, and the temptation to throw a big anny on 3. There are just enough trees to keep things interesting, and to test your accuracy (like holes 5, 10, 15 and 16.) With no short tees, it's a long course for a beginner, but still remains fun. Some of the signs are in need of maintenance and updating. Navigation can be a little confusing, particularly where the path from six crosses over the tee pad of two. Great all around course, I would recommend it for all skill levels.

Fun course with a lakeside view 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 17, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course has a good mix of short, moderate, and longer length holes.
Adequate signage and excellent tee pads.
This course uses the elevation well especially on the front 9 and the last few holes of the back 9.
There are wooded/technical holes as well as holes that are more open. All of which provide excellent lines to be hit and make for great discing.
The chance to run the chains is present here as well.
There are benches and trash cans throughout the course, so that is a plus. This course has protected baskets and elevated tees and baskets too.
The flow is logical and there are also directional arrows to keep you pointed in the right direction.
Water threat was present on hole 7 in particular and a few holes give you a nice view of the lake.
My favorite holes here are 1,3,7, and 16.

Cons:

If you are not paying attention on 10 you could hit an oncoming car with a disc so safety is priority number one.
7's sign is missing its diagram and just had HOLE 7 spelled out with white tape. Sadly 8's signage is missing as is 12, 13, and there wasn't any info for 15 either.
Not a major con but you could twist an ankle in a few spots where the terrain is a bit uneven on the front 9.

Other Thoughts:

I can't say enough good things about this course as I've grown to appreciate it more as the years have gone by. This was actually my second course ever played and I was really impressed by it in 2010 and even more so now that 5 years have gone by. The golf shots here are fun and challenging and you will use a variety of shots when you play this course.
This course can get a lot of traffic but after you play it you will see why so many players of all skill levels love playing here. This course is a must play if you are in the area and worth it even if you must drive several miles to get here.
I'm highly certain that you will find this course enjoyable. I know when I get the chance to make it to this area again I will be playing here again.

Lake Lewisville Lovin' 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 19, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Lake Lewisville plays as nicely as it looks. Situated in a quiet neighborhood in a historic district, the course pleases from the moment you drive up to the last putt on hole 18. Hole 1 drives off the top of a hill down towards the beach and then the course winds along the shore. As you play through the course you will find that Lewisville will challenge you with uphill approaches and both hyzer and anhyzer approaches. The course is both technical and open at the same time. Great baskets complimented by luxuriously long and wide teepeads add to the atmosphere of a quality course. The parking lot for the course is marked by a sign which is situated with benches near hole 1 and hole 18 finishes near the parking area as well.

Cons:

The course does have a few cons that detract from the overall experience. Parking is very close to the fairways and can become an issue. Holes in several places seem to be throwing at each other or are overlapping. There are a lot of non golfers wondering in and out of the woods and fairways!

Other Thoughts:

- Need some plastic before or after the round? Stop by the Dynamic Discs pro shop, a mile from the course!

Lake Park is awesome 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 13, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Long tee pads, great terrain, great view, some nice ace-able holes that are not too easy. Different shot selection on most holes

Cons:

Very easy to lose a disc here during the summer months be it in the lake or in the trees. There are normally a lot of people here. Parking is terrible, while abundant but in lines of shots. The port-a-cans are semi clean, but real restrooms would be nice. The random people walking through the course to get to the lake.

Disc Golf by the Lake 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 16, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

A very nice course on Lake Lewisville. Several different types of shots come in to play. Generally shorter holes. The lake is put into play on a few holes, an obstacle that few other courses in the area have. The elevated basket areas are very nice.

Cons:

It's easy to throw into or across the roads in a few places. In a number of places baskets for two different holes are very close to each other, 20ish feet in some cases. This can lead to some confusion as to which basket goes with which hole. The benches, while well built and in general a good idea, are too tall to really be used comfortably. This seems really odd.

Other Thoughts:

I imagine that the holes by the lake shore could be hellacious in heavy winds.

The city takes care of this course very well, and the DD people help to keep it looking nice.

Great Sundays Had Here 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 14, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is a well maintained course, I enjoy the layout very much. The lake air is always cool on hot days. You'll need a wide variety of shots, which always makes for an excellent day of disc golf. A couple of the holes have an enormous risk/reward factor, and I absolutely love that about the course. If you don't know where to go, the locals will always be helpful on showing you the way around, from my experience.

Some tight wooded shots, some open fairways, and beautiful scenery on most holes.

A con for most, but I do love the sand that is at this course, it gives it that beach feel.
Also, has the greatest teepads ever. 5-6ft by 30ft. SO MUCH SPACE.

Cons:

Very few, may seem pointless to mention.
Some people sit on the bank of the lake fishing or playing with their animals, but they are pretty aware of where they are and watch the teebox that throws past em. The course isn't completely fluent, but it's not too drastic like some courses I've played. Also, some people park too close to the course and one errant shot could ruin 2 peoples days. (I've seen discers park there, so they should know that spot is bad news if they've played there before.)

Other Thoughts:

There is a dynamic disc store right down the road. On sundays a great guy works there and will help you out with disc selection at the store. I played a round with him last time, he helped my brother and I with our form.

Favorite hole at this course is #8, it's the first one you see when you park. It's a slight uphill shot, but the basket and putting circle is elevated from how the hill actually runs. It's a sweet hole.

Lewisville 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 8, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

The variety in the shots is all over the spectrum. One minute you are shooting at a narrow gate and the next you have a wide open launch.

Though it was extremely hot the day we played, being next to the lake brings in a nice breeze in the summer!

I played midday on a Saturday and we didn't have to wait most of the day.

The course is challenging but extremely fun all around.

Huge tee boxes! Get the running start that you desire.

Cons:

I HATE shooting close to cars and this happens multiple times. It wasn't enough to ruin the course for me, but it was pretty inconvenient.

There are plenty of places to lose a disc, but that is all the more motivation to have an excellent round.

Though there are signs everywhere pointing you in the right direction, if my cousin had not been with me then I'm not exactly sure if I would have found the tees so easily.

Other Thoughts:

If you get the chance, this is a definite yes!

Pros:

Great mixture of technical, and open shots. Very well shaded. Massive tee boxes. Opens up with an awesome downhill ace run. Plays fair with lefties and righties. Well groomed. Only two lake hazard holes, unless you over throw or shank on 1 and 2. Sand. benches on every hole, and some chill spots tucked in the woods.

Cons:

Gets pretty busy. Alot of non disc golfers walkin around, not know whats really going on there. People park in places that the vehicle can get hit. some of the signs have came out the ground, and some need to be replaced

Other Thoughts:

Support Tom, buy some plastic!

Stand out course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 19, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

The holes are short, but can be challenging enough that you don't feel cheated out of a good day of golf. The front nine by the lake make good use of the shoreline and wooded area. The baskets on raised areas test your putting ability as well as you never. The back nine is more open and continues to offer enjoyable play. Most holes have signage and the 'Next Tee' sings are helpful.

Cons:

Hole 8 wasn't clearly marked, but a quick look at the course map let's you know you're at the right teepad.

Other Thoughts:

Both 11 & 12 and 13 & 14 could be a bit confusing for first timers. Just remember that on 11 and 13, you're shooting for the left-most basket.

Tale of two "nines" 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 26, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course has some of the most aesthetically pleasing views I've seen. The front nine is unique, intimidating, demanding and a ton of fun to play. On multiple holes, a drive a foot right or left will be the difference between a good shot and a disastrous one. You break even on this course - you definitely have some skills.

Cons:

The back nine is a major let down compared to the front. The holes turn almost elementary (save a few). Half of the course is set right off of Lake Lewisville. This can make for some incredibly windy conditions.

Other Thoughts:

A few holes provide a good view of the beach-goers...Hubba Hubba!

Loving Lake Lewisville 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 19, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Nice massive concrete tees are always welcomed by me and so many other disc golfers.

2) Signs have all the pertinent and essential information . . . Distance, Par, and Hole # with a map and a next tee arrow.

3) Directionals in a few places are helpful for figuring out the walks between holes.

4) Nice cool park with all sorts of other things going on, but the disc golf course is pretty well segregated from the other activities.

5) Garbage cans on the course in multiple areas to help keep the course nice and clean.

6) Really cool property on the edge of the lake . . . the soil is really sandy and the vegetation is diverse and interesting on a disc golf course.

7) Benches on occassion to allow you to sit and rest if you need to.

8) Timber retaining wall sused effectively to retain the soils above the teepads and to also level the areas around the tees.

9) Elevated island green is an interesting and unique design aspect as well as challenge. No skipping onto that green!

10) Portopotties are available to players on 4 holes because of how small of an area this course is set on.

11) Nice design incorporates a nice variety of foliage. The holes along the water are different than the more open holes at the end of the front 9, then the back 9 rusn alongisde a tight wooded area.

12) Water is definitely in play and presents a real risk/reward for a couple of shots.

13) Balance is awesome on this course because of the variety of shots required here. You need to work your disc both ways you need to change your throws because of the obstacles and also elevate some shots while keeping others low.

14) Awesome variety in distance of the holes. They range from 200's to 400's with everything in between. This is a design aspect tha I think gets forgotte but should be integral in good design if at all possible.

15) Maps are available at the ranger shack to the east of the course.

16) This is simply put just a really pretty course . . .because of the lake, but also because of how the course is setup and it is just a diverse property.

Cons:

1) Because of the sandy soil . . . there is a lot of sand on some of those front 9 tee pads especially.

2) Some of the distances on the teesigns really seemed to be incorrect.

3) # plates would really help because of the proximity and orientation of some of the baskets.

4) Some of the greens are wore out and bare . . . being a sandy soil it is going to happen and I am sure this park is played often and by a lot of people.

5) The footing on a lot of the fairways is tough because of the sandy soil . . . its loose and leaves you unsure of your runup. There also seemed to be a lot of holes in the sand from rodents and other animals.

6) A couple of places are pretty dangerous because of proximity of the holes and fairways running very close to other fairways or tees or baskets.

7) Parking area seems to be really tight to the road and risk damage to your vehicle . . . and it also seems to be really small making get togethers tough.

8) The road is a little too close to a couple of the holes in my opinion . . . risk of hitting a car is possible.

Other Thoughts:

I was pumped to find a 4.0 disc rated course on the outskirts of the cities. I wasn't sure what to think but this was really a unique property. I was also not let down after playing.

Lake Lewisville still fun 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

First, let me add that I have been playing Lake Lewisville for over a decade now. Have played it easily 100 times and still enjoy it every time. The trees, especially in the summer make you work the disc a lot more than most courses in DFW. As has been mentioned several times - truly the best place to play in the area after rainfall. Baskets, tees, and course is clean and well-maintained.

Cons:

Minor blemishes - and maybe this is only for those that played Lewisville 6+ years ago, but the trees on 3 and 7 make those two holes much less adventuresome. #3 used to be decision-time - out over the lake or play it safe. #7 the same risk reward out over the water how much are you willing to bite off and risk a disc in the drink? Now, however, with the trees easily doubling in height over the last decade makes these holes much less enjoyable.

Other Thoughts:

Crowded on the weekends. Yes, that is very true, but for those with the ability to play on weekdays - Lewisville is still a great destination. Happy to say this is my home course.

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 11, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great course, great variety, used every disc in my bag.
Tee boxes for every hole are nice and long, and signs for every hole are detailed and very helpful. Trees in this course give the holes personality and a fun challenge.

Cons:

Very difficult to think of cons for this course.
There are a few holes where the pin cannot be seen and one must take an "I'll throw my disc this way and find it when I get around the brush" mentality. There may seem like a lot of thick brush but discs were surprisingly easy to find if it flies into the brush.

Other Thoughts:

I walked away thinking, "what a great course, I cannot wait to come back and play it again."
This is a must play, you will not be disappointed.

Better played during the week 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 22, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very good course and well laid out. Good elevation changes and the front 9 is very technical.

Cons:

Played the second time on Sat. Too many people taking up time drinking beer and smoking marijuana in the bushes. If their etiquette was better than the round would have been much better. A lot of people were out that day and most were having a good time, but had to jump two different groups to continue playing. Went back and had to wait to play the holes we missed.

Other Thoughts:

Overall a good course. I went on a weekday and had a much better time. Older men out in the parking area selling disks, people having fun with their families, and great weather make this course a "Must Return". Get ride of the alcoholics and pot heads the rating will go up.

Lake Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 26, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Lake Lewisville Park is one of the best courses in the DFW. It is a large championship quality park right on Lake Lewisville. It is a beautiful park, and very well taken care of. There is a good mixture of long and short holes, and a great variety of shots. The difficulty level is perfect. It is a challenging course, but not to the point of losing it's fun factor. There are a few longer holes that will test your arm, but there are also a couple of ace worthy holes that reqire more finesse. This is my favorite course to go to on a nice day. The breathtaking views combined with the cool breeze off the lake makes for a one of a kind experience.

Cons:

It is very hard to come up with cons about this course, but there are a few. First of all, it is not the most begginer friendly course. If you are having an off day, it will make you pay. Also, with the growing popularity of the sport, this course can get very crowded. If you go on a weekend, make sure you are not in a hurry. There are also two days a week that there are tournaments, and more and more people seem to be showing up. The wind can also play a big factor at this course. The same refreshing cool breeze coming off the lake could make for a tough round on a windy day. There are a few holes that the lake comes into play that you must be careful on if you're planning on keeping your plastic. None of the cons of this course are enough of a reason not to play this course, they could just take away from the experience a little.

Other Thoughts:

If you are in the DFW, Lake Lewisville park is a must play. There are so many great courses in the Metroplex, but Lake Lewisville Park is one of the best. Bring a full bag, you're going to need all your shots.

Lake Lewisville Rundown!!! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 5, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Concrete pads. Great pads!!! Very long with lots of room for whatever your "approach" to a drive my be.
-Great pin positions
-Shot variety is great... every shot in disc golf (hyzers, anis, treed, open, water, doglegs left/right, mid / long drives. need I say more)
-Terrain variety...everything. Being that some holes are on the lake, it makes for some awsome pin postions sitting on shelved shoreline.
-Scenery is outstanding on wholes near the lake. If you traveled far to get here, it might be worth your while to bring a camera.
-VERY clean course
-Campsites near by!!! Make a trip out of it.

Cons:

-If it's windy...you'll know it for sure, especially on the front nine which plays closer to the lake (super cold on the lake in the winter).
-Might possibly bump in to other park goers.
-Lake presents "lost disc" water hazards.
-Course navigation could be a tad diff. for 1st timers

Other Thoughts:

All-in-all ...there is really nothing bad to say about this course.
As far as scenery, shot variety, terrain variety, boxes, pins, signage, cleanliness...this course is one of the best in the area.

If you haven't yet played it, it'd be worth your while to travel there. There's 3-4 other great courses in the area within about a 20 min. drive.

Lewisville Lake 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 21, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Course gives you everything you need with maybe the exception of rollers. Tomahawks or thumbers may be needed in your arsenal. Challenging.

Cons:

Lake to your left on 2 holes and then back on your right for 1 hole that will eat your discs if you're not very careful. Parking seems to always be a problem in the sense of avoiding dings in your car because the lot lines up right next to the course on several holes.

Other Thoughts:

New discs are usually sold by a guy, so don't worry about having to hit up a store before going if you're wanting a few new discs.
