Bring your 'A' Game 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 31, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very good layout
Most holes require accuracy off the tee, which is a plus for me because I think this improves your game.
If you are new to the game this course will be quite challenging.
I was glad to see that the two water holes (3&7) had routes you could take with very little risk of getting wet. The back 9 are a little more open than the front, and make for a good chance to work on distance, especially 10-13 and 17. 16 is probably the easiest hole - go through the 'tunnel' rather than around to the right as the sign suggests.

Cons:

Heavy play during nice weather. Summer foilage makes some holes harder, esp. 3, 5, 7. On a windy day, the wind is especially tough on the lake holes - 2, 3 and 7.

Other Thoughts:

Please, here and at all dg courses, dispose of your litter in provided containers or take it with you!

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 24, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

*Very few (if any) courses in the DFW area are as scenic as Lake Park.
*Several holes overlook the lake and holes 3 and 7 have you throw shots over the lake.
*All holes are reachable for players that can throw 400ft+; however OB and large mature trees prevents this course from being a pitch and putt course.
*Fairways are fair, hit your line and make your putt and you can score extremely well
*Concrete tee pads long enough to land a Cessna
*Nice baskets that reward good putting by catching virtually everything
*Porta-potties (didn't think I'd ever mention this as a pro)
*Sits several hundred feet from camping and a boat ramp- makes this a great weekend get away for out-of-towners
*Course sits on sandy soil, and drains EXTREMELY well. After a few days of rain in DFW you can expect to see players from all over the metroplex at this course because it will be 100% mud-free
*Some of the most fun and scenic greens I have ever putted on. (Especially the holes close to the lake)
*Every hole is simply, fun to play
*Beautiful lakes attract beautiful ladies in swimsuits...not bad scenery for a dg course.
*Alcohol is allowed in park as long as it is not in glass containers.

Cons:

*Lots of traffic can make for long rounds, especially on weekends when weather is ideal
*Lots of non-golfers traverse the fairways/greens to get down to the lake (only a minor annoyance)
*Look out for fisherman that fish off the rocks on hole 7
*Can't rely on tee signs- but this isnt a big problem, course is very easy to follow.

Other Thoughts:

*Location (minutes off of I-35), scenery, and quality golf holes make this course a great destination for locals or anyone passing through.
*Course has a good number of locals that are willing to show you around- If you spot "Old-Man" Tom (The course designer) in his white pick-up be sure to stop by and say hello and thank him for all he has done to get this fun course in the ground.

Always fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 15, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course may be hilly and wooded, but fairways are open enough that it is enjoyable. There are always great people out there.

Cons:

Hit a tree or get off a fairway and you are in trouble. Brush is very difficult to throw out of.

Other Thoughts:

The holes on the lake can be stupid when it is windy, be careful not to lose a disc, but you probably still will.

One of a kind! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 15, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

What a beautiful disc golf course! The scenery is great right next to the lake with a few holes right next to the beach. The rest of the course plays back into the park with lots of large trees makes it nice to look at. The teepads are giant cement, if you need a larger teepad, then you need to learn how to throw again. The park was nice and clean.

Cons:

The signs were old and baskets were older. Some navigation issues on the front nine. A few of the fairways were rather close together, so keep an eye open for other player's discs. Easy pars on most of the holes, longer holes would be nice.

Other Thoughts:

Great park with awesome views of the lake! If you are looking for a very difficult course, go elsewhere. However if you are looking for a nice enjoyable, relaxing round of disc golf, this place can't be beat!

Lewisville Lake 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 2, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Gigantic teepads, could possibly land a small plane on one. gorgeous park, that is well maintained. two shots over the lake(3 & 7) which is always a treat. great course design, good flow from hole to hole.

The locals here are great, i lived in lewisville for 1.5 years and you can go up to any of these guys and ask them any question about golf or the course and theyll tell you, or just play a round with them, you might learn or see a couple holes that you wouldnt have even thought about.

Weekly minis on tuesday night and saturday. plenty of competition lots of people show up.

plenty of technical holes, with a lot of shot variety.

Cons:

there would probably be a little confusion between hole 5 and 6 as you have to backtrack a little.

lots of walkers, and fisherman especially on hole 7, just be patient and they will move, most of the time...

45 min away from my hotel, so i have to settle for bear creek, which isnt bad but its not lewisville lake

Other Thoughts:

dont forget to stop by the old man with the white ford selling discs out the back of the truck. that ole man tom, the course designer, and several time grand master world champion. be sure and tell him how much you loved the course(because you will) and dont be too shy to ask him any question about discs or shots, this man knows it all, and he's one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. AND HE SELLS HIS DISCS CHEAP TOO!!

this is my favorite course of all time, i havnt played too many yet but this one will always stick out in my mind. whenever i think best courses ive played, this is definitely one of them.

18 on the Lake 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 12, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

I've only only been playing about a month and have only played on 3 different courses. This one by far has been the best so far. Holes 3 and 7 are right on the water and have some great views. The front 9 is one the lake side and the back 9 is across the road. I had a great time playing this course.

Cons:

I heards lots of cursing from players playing. I went on a monday during the afternoon and they looked to be college kids maybe. Not good if you are taking kids. Other than that i have no complaints with this course.

Other Thoughts:

Kind of tricky to find, but not all that hard. Directions i had said turn on Sandy Beach Rd. Well there was no sign. Just turn into the main park from Mill Rd.

Great Mix on the Lake 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 7, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Well manicured, challenging, diverse course. You get to use all of your shots here, long, short, tight, open, hyzer, anhyzer. The view of the lake is beautiful from most of the front 9 holes and this sandy course dries out quickly after a rain. The teepads and greens/retaining walls are in great shape and add to the experience of playing this course.

Cons:

Not a lot of parking on a very busy day. This course can get moderately busy at times. Not much elevation change.

Other Thoughts:

The course has lost some strategic trees over the years, but baskets have been moved in response which shows that the keepers of Lake Park want to create a challenging experience for golfers.

great course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 14, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

I thought this was a great course. The long tee pads were really nice. The course didn't seem long, but had so many different challenes and obstacles, it made it seem long. I loved how hole 3 playedblind, and by the water. This course has to be one of my favorites that i've played here in the metroplex. I used alot of different discs. There wasn't alot of elevation changes either, so it will not beat you down. I can't wait to play in the tournament in two weeks at this course.

Cons:

There were alot of people who were just strolling along the course. People who camp, and fish here, probably don't understand disc golf etiquite. I had an incident where a kid about 3yrs old, picked my disc up and threw it back towards me. His mother chuckled and thought it was cute. IT WAS NOT CUTE!

Other Thoughts:

Besides the traffic, this was a great course. I wouldn't hesitate one bit to go back. I might even camp there the next time I go.

Lakeside Beauty... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 21, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Great LOOOOONG Teepads. This course is definately the most sceneic course I have played in my short time in the sport. Love the challenge of the few blind teeshots. Really enjoyed the way the lake came into play on a couple holes. The parking area being nearby could be handy, should a fresh cold one be needed from the cooler.

Cons:

The only real con that I could find was on one hole we come to find a group of campers using the level area in front of the tee pad as a tentsite... Not a big deal as we were able to throw by them without much difficulty.

Other Thoughts:

I definately want to play this course again, and as often as possible.

Played twice today 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 10, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

This is a great course to enjoy the views of the lake, especially on the front nine. Some shots are very technical. A wooden bench is provided by almost every tee pad. The complete course covers the area in a 'clover leaf' pattern, makes it easy to get cold ones from the car instead of carrying them. Sometimes we go to Sneaky Petes after the game and sit at the gazebo to watch the eye candy coming off the boats;)

Cons:

We played on Sunday, first game at 8am then 2nd at 10am. The 10am game was full of noise from the nearby soccer fields with events going on. Somebody had a loud speaker over there and was constantly talking in spanish. It was very annoying especially when it is such a beautiful park you have a constant chatter going on in the background of something I couldn't understand. Last time I played here about a month ago, there were kids across the road by the guard shack for boat lake access that were constantly screaming... These are probably isolated insidents. I have played here about 20 times in the last 5 years and not much else to complain about other than seeing occasional poison ivy.

Other Thoughts:

We saw a huge hawk in the tree by basket #16 that was really cool. Also a snake near the water at the edge of the beach by #3 fairway. I believe this course/park does not close and alcohol is also allowed.

Thanks for reading and please mark my review.

Beautiful lakeshore! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 31, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

What makes this course great is the natural beauty of the lake shore that the front nine are set on.

It has nice long concrete teepads.

There is plenty of shade for play during those hot Texas summers.

There are benches on about half of the holes.

There are some interesting holes that you won't find at your run of the mill course:
#1 is a straight 233' downhill shot with a dropoff to the lake shore behind a basket that is surrounded by trees.

#2 is only 236 but has a good pucker factor because you are throwing blind over a small hill and you have to hit a window in the trees about 150' away.

#3 was designed to be an annie over the water but most people take the safe hyzer down the path to the basket. The elevated pin on the rocky shore makes this one of the prettiest holes in the metroplex. During tournaments they make a temp teepad down on the beach that forces everyone to throw over the water.

#4 is a 302' dogleg right and is almost impossible to get close in one throw.

#6 has a cool elevated terraced green that you must land on or be forced to putt up to the basket.

#7 is the most memorable hole on the course because this is where most people lose discs. The natural route is a 300' hyzer over the water to an elevated basket on top of a rock. People who have lost a disc will take the safer annie down the trail.

#8 is a short blind hyzer to another terraced green. Miss the green and you'll be three putting for sure.

The other 11 holes are about what you'd find on an average course.

Cons:

Parking is along the side of the road and at least 4 holes have you throwing right towards where most people park.

Quite a few signs are missing or damaged and the distances are not accurate on some. I printed the distances from this website and was fine.

There are a couple of areas where you have to step onto the fairway of other holes. Just be aware and keep a lookout at all times for flying discs.

Other Thoughts:

I love this course, mainly for the beauty and fun of the first nine holes.

One of the best around! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 20, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is very scenic and has a good mix of different kinds of holes. There are many holes with changes in elevation, many with trees in the fairway that will require pinpoint accuracy or a big shot over the top. There are several holes where Lake Lewisville comes into play. Hole 3 offers the opportunity to the daring for an anheyzer shot out over the lake to get to the pin and hole 7 has the same for a big heyzer shot. There are many aceable holes here as well as a few that you're lucky to par. The tee boxes are the best around. Very long, close to 15ft or so. This is a very well maintained course. It is pretty easy to navigate as well with signs after the basket that tell you where to go next. This is one of the few courses around where you are allowed to drink, provided that it isn't a glass container.

Cons:

Sometimes there is heavy course traffic and there are quite a few people that will come and sit down by the lake to fish and swim. They create extra obstacles on a couple of holes, although I've never heard of anyone getting hit yet. A few of the signs have inaccurate information and need to be updated.

Other Thoughts:

There are usually quite a few throwers out. The mornings are the best times to go to avoid heavy course traffic. This is one of those courses that is hard to ever get tired of.

Fun course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 3, 2008 Played the course:never

Pros:

Great front nine that runs alongside the lake. Tees and holes are sometimes on landscaped platforms, which is nice. Next tees are always well marked. Nice balance of dogs left and right.

Cons:

Back 9 feels a little crammed together near the apartment complex. Maps of each hole could use an upgrade, but are functional for the most part.

Other Thoughts:

For my money, a much more interesting course than Leonard L. Woods Park across town. Probably my #2 course in the area so far behind Harry Myers DGC in Rockwall.
