Disc golf mini (short) course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 22, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Technical-requires variety of shots and shot shaping
Fairly easy to follow course flow with little backtracking
Makes decent use of very little available space
Fun and relaxing course can be played in 30 minutes.

Cons:

Short, only need a putter and maybe a mid range disc
pay-to-play.
Bugs-bring bug spray.
Part of course is in swampy area, be aware of snakes.
Watch for poison ivy-quite abundant in spring/summer.
Other than mowing grass, there is zero "course upkeep", the yellow bands on baskets are almost brown from mildew.
Holes 1-8 are in another park and require another entry fee to complete your round; these holes are very bland meh and are in an area heavily traveled (Children's Museum)-park goers frequently in the way and oblivious to disc golfers.
Holes 10-18 are in the campground park and tightly squeezed together.
No pro-shop (this might be good as most state parks inflate disc prices), but there is almost zero risk of losing a disc.
Little thought went into design, couple of fairways do not offer any flight path-it's tree-plinko to get to the basket.
Some fairways on 10-18 have some 2'-3' deep holes in the middle of the fairway.
Mostly flat; small side-hill on #11 with swamp to the left.
Even in the "camping" park, the disc course is not near the campground, it's in the day-use area and requires a car ride to get to the course from the camping area.
Park has potential to expand the course into something really fun and challenging but the manager lacks interest in the sport, growing the course, or simple course maintenance; focus is strictly on RVs and organized group picnics in the day-use area.
Has old-style single-chain baskets that need updating.

Other Thoughts:

On a disc golf vacation, stayed in the primitive area campground and enjoyed the visit. Despite camping in the park, still had to pay a separate entry fee to play holes 1-8 (there is no hole 9). A winding drive on a narrow road is required to access the course from the camping area. All 9 holes can be played twice in about an hour.
Would love to see the museum park expand their course to a full 18, and the camping park expand their course to a full 18 holes. Both parks would then be interesting.

review of the back 9 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 9, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

-technical, wooded shots
-mostly short, easy to shoot under par
-discatchers in great condition
-tees marked by stakes and (broken) signs
-very close to the park entrance

Cons:

-very short, 235' is the longest hole
-tee signs are mostly broken and a couple of them are installed in the middle of what should be the tee
-a few boggy areas that look like they always carry water

Other Thoughts:

A fun little practice course in a seemingly deserted State Park in the middle of Jackson. Short, flat, and moderately wooded for a quick finesse round. Apart from the broken and improperly installed signs, the course is in good condition. A good place to play a quick round, try to shoot 9 down, or hit some aces (I got hole 17).

Looking up directions on this course was difficult. The directions on the course page here are totally wrong. I came by the course on foot and easily found the back 9 near the park entrance. After walking around for awhile I gave up on the front 9, even later after consulting a map I can't tell where those other holes could be. Oh well.

If you park somewhere out on the street or the gas station you can walk in and not pay the parking fee. There was no one at the gate when I came, just an honor box and no course maps.

The holes are not nearly as wooded now as the pictures show. Most of the bushes have been cleared out. I took some pictures and will try to get them posted.
