Decent City Park Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 11, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

LL Woods Park is one of the most well kept courses I have ever been to, and from reading reviews, this is not unusual. Each hole have shorter concrete tees and a few holes have longer holes that are marked with wooden planks installed in the ground. The baskets are older and are showing their age but still have good bones and catch well

Though the holes don't have tee signs, each basket has a directional sign pointing to the next tee pad. Navigation really would not be an issue without the signs, but they are definitely nice to have. The course just plays back and forth in the skinny park.

The holes are relatively tame, but with the concrete drainage ditch and sidewalks meandering throughout the course, holes have a good amount of OB if you play on or beyond the paths. This is really the only true challenge of the course. There are quite a few ace runs with the lack of trees, which is a stark difference from the nearby, much tougher lake course.

Cons:

The course plays through a multi-use park. I played early on a Sunday morning, but the walking paths had tons of walkers and runners that come very close to preferred disc lines on a few holes. There is a sign at the beginning of the courses warning golfers of the mixed use of the park, which is definitely a necessary addition.

The golf really is not all that great. Beyond a few strategically placed trees, there is very little variety or challenge in the course. The longer holes at the end of the course literally have no obstacles to speak of except the playground on hole 18 *eye roll*. While the holes at the beginning have the occasional cluster of trees surrounding the basket. Shooting under 54 should be no issue for an intermediate player

Other Thoughts:

LL Woods is definitely not a bad course by any means, but it really has no qualities that elevate it to a good course. With it being on the shorter end, a single player could play it way less than an hour moving at a leisure pace.

Playing here and the lake would be a good 1-2 combo for an afternoon play. I wouldn't come out of my way to play here again, but would happily play here if I lived in town.

Fun for beginners and/or nice practice course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 20, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Concrete pads at all holes
- Sidewalks up to almost all tee pads; extremely cart friendly
- Almost impossible to lose your discs, unless you throw it over a neighborhood fence
- Nice mix of ace runs and bomb shots
- Indoor restroom facilities
- Water fountains and trash cans regularly placed
- Maintenance is done weekly

Cons:

- Lack of shade, it is hot as hell during the summer out here
- It is typically windy to very windy on the course
- No real elevation change
- Pedestrians are always in play, this is a neighborhood park and the sidewalk is OB on most holes
- Baskets need help, they are old, there is some chain detachment, and many are leaning
- Mosquitoes are an issue, there is quite a bit of standing water
- Hole 18 has you throwing at a playground.

Other Thoughts:

This is good course to take a disc golf curious friend out to get a taste, just make sure you do it early in the morning to avoid heat, pedestrians and mosquitoes.

A Normal Park Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 29, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Fun for casual rounds- especially with beginners
Decent shot variety
Good variety of short and long holes
No way to lose a disc!

Cons:

Public Park - Can get crowded
Usually Windy
Not much shade - can be brutal in the summer
Generally flat and relatively unexciting

Other Thoughts:

This is a good course for those in the area. If you are outside of 30 minutes away this course isn't worth coming to. When I saw that a 2.5 rating was Decent/Typical it became very easy to rate.

Good for a beginners or a relaxing round 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 12, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Plenty of OB to increase the challenge, but still no threat of losing a disc
-Next tee box signs make navigation easy
-Great for beginners and low power intermediate players

Cons:

-Short tee boxes
-Not very challenging

Other Thoughts:

Difficulty (2/5): Not an overly long or technical course. Definitely geared more towards beginner players. There are very few holes that are completely wide open, but the course isn't heavily wooded by a long stretch. Lots of out of bounds created by walking paths and the concrete drain. This serves to add a challenge to the course without a risk of losing discs, which is really nice.

Maintenance (2.5/5): Every hole has a concrete tee box, but they were often very short. If you use any sort of a cross step on your run up, you'll need to start from behind the tee box. There weren't much in the way of tee signs, but there was next tee box signs next to the baskets, which really helped. Grass seems to be mowed regularly and the baskets were in decent shape.

Variability (2/5): There was always trees on each hole, but they were generally sparse and spread out. This meant you could usually use whatever line you were most comfortable with and shape it around the trees. I, for one, was able to throw a hyzer on just about every single hole. My playing partner really likes anhyzers, and was able to throw those just about every hole. The one really unique hole is the short par 4 island hole. It makes you decide whether to lay up for a very easy birdie, or go for a risky eagle.

Flow/Experience (3.5/5): The flow of this course is phenomenal. The holes lead right into each other, and the next tee box signs make navigation for first time players very easy. It's a multi use park, so we frequently had to wait for joggers/walker to pass out of our driving range on the nearby paths. It's in a pretty park, and was a very enjoyable round.

Extremely simple course. Every hole is so wide open that it quickly got boring.
No cons other than that. It is as nice as it could possibly be for the design, but the design is a simple, easy, open course.

Decent course in city park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 8, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Very nice teepads, no complaints about them being too short.
- Course is in a well-kept city park in a nice neighborhood. Grass is mowed
- Fairly easy to navigate as a first-timer; course generally has good flow from hole to hole, and most of the baskets have signage nearby pointing to the next tee
- A few interesting shots taking into account the (dry today) drainage ditch that runs through the park: #5 plays as an island hole surrounded by the ditch, #7 pin sits a few feet in front of the ditch adding a bit of risk.

Cons:

- The course plays on either side of a walking/jogging/biking path (marked as OB) which was in use constantly while I was there. Beware the pedestrians/bicyclers.
- A few signs are missing or damaged; some do have some questionable distances listed. The course map on this site seems to have pretty accurate distances listed.
- The course is pretty level elevation-wise.
- There are trees around most of the course, but nothing that would give a technical feel or provide much in the way of challenging lines. #14-18 in particular are fairly wide open.
- All but two holes are under 400ft in length, and half are under 300ft. Big arms won't get much use out here, which would be a "con" for some.

Other Thoughts:

I wouldn't call this either a technical course or a place to really air out some throws, but it definitely would be a good place for a beginner, or anyone just looking for relatively quick round. It seems like this course be a decent warm-up for Lake Lewisville DCG. This is a course that would be difficult to hate or to really love.

Cons:

This will bore the veteran/pro player. If seen multiple -10 scores registered. The park can become congested at times with youth sports practices and general park goers. Always Remember - obliviates have the right of way

Great for newbs 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 14, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a great course to introduce new players to disc golf. There are a few trees on each hole, enough to make things tricky, but not too annoying. The average length of the holes slowly builds up from the beginning to the end. The back 9 is great for practicing your drives. Pretty much no chance to lose a disc.

Cons:

Not much variety. The last several holes are just long and open. Very flat and repetitive.

Other Thoughts:

Probably won't go back here on my own, but perhaps with someone who wants to learn.

L.L. Woods Rundown!!! 2+ years drive by

Pros:

-Concrete Pads
-T-signs
-Well manicured and very, very clean
-Nice surrounding neighborhood
-Shot Variety (80%mids and 20%drivers from box, anis, hyzers, and str8 line shots)
-Water fountain at hole 10 or something was cool to see (refill station if you will)

Cons:

-Lots of park traffic
-Pretty bland course...not much terrain variety
-Mostly short holes.

Other Thoughts:

Really decent course. Fun to play and great for beginners. Not much to it, but it does offer everything you might want in a small course -- spotty trees, water hazard (if played as so), slight elevation changes mostly found around baskets, mostly short drives with last few holes being of decent size. Good use of the space given.

Great midrange practice course with not-so-long fairways and spotty trees. Also would make a great course for glow games. You wont be losing discs out here.

Easy course to find your way around and it also has a nice flow to it. If you're in the area I'd say it's worth stopping by.

Nice - Open 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 12, 2009 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Easy to get to, the course is well laid out and makes good use of trees, creek etc...to force you into better shotmaking. Not at all crowded, so you can throw multiple discs and work on your game.

Cons:

The last 3-4 holes are a little disappointing; they pretty much just zig zag across a field. Lots of fire ant hills, especially on holes 6-9.

Other Thoughts:

There are plenty of places where you can 'loop back' and re-play several holes if you'd like. 6th tee was a little out of the way - cross the bridge and look up the hill in front of you.

open city park 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 8, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

-well laid out holes make the most of the space
-great concrete pads
-nice suburban park, clean, trash cans
-confidence boosting short holes on the front 9
-some well placed trees dotting the course, some trees shape fairways or force a shot to one side or another
-playground for the kids
-play the paths and beyond as OB for a more challenging round
-there are long tees for many holes and a long layout for tournaments
-no undergrowth, lost discs shouldn't be an issue
-great for glow rounds

Cons:

-the regular layout is very short, front 9 are all duece or die for experienced players
-mostly open, not too challenging unless you play the path and beyond as OB
-pedestrian paths all throughout the park, weaving through the fairways. good for OB challenge but lots of people walk through the park

Other Thoughts:

This is a long skinny neighborhood park. The front 9 goes back to the end, back 9 comes back and circles around a more open area where the holes are longer.

Pedestrian paths and small culvert (OB) run through the park. There are some trees, used well to create obstacles. No tight lines but there is more than 1 line on many fairways.

If you're looking for a most challenging round then play the path and beyond as OB and there are also a handful of long tees though not all are marked permanently. There is also a longer tournament layout with extra long tees and longer basket positions.

This is a fun course and a decent place to get in a round but it's not memorable. A couple places to air out the big guns. If you live nearby or happen to be in the neighborhood then there is no reason not to play here. That said, Lake Park is not far from here and I think it's a much more fun round.

Overall Average Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 18, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

For the most part a very short course, up until the final few holes. Easy course to play if that's what you're looking for. Nice concrete tees and double chain baskets upholding the standard for most DFW area courses. The tee signs are decent quality. There are multiple pointers to the "Next Tee" to help navigation. Some pointers are located on the baskets and others are separate signs. The course makes good use of pin placements next to the water's (okay... drainage ditch's) edge on some of the middle holes to up the challenge factor. Challenge can also be increased by playing sidewalk and beyond as OB. Restrooms and trash cans on the course.

Cons:

Some holes play very close to each other; combine that with tee signs that have incorrect distances and you have a recipe for confusion. E.g. On hole #4 there are two visible baskets very close together and it's not obvious which one should be played. [As a general rule stick to your side of the sidewalk.] The sidewalk weaves through the park and can lead to pedestrian interference. Several holes in the middle of the course are missing tee signs, luckily the concrete tees make it easy to see the tee boxes. No elevation changes. This course (standard tees) is too easy for intermediate and up players.

Other Thoughts:

There's a rumor of Long/Pro tees on this course and I did see a marker for one of them, but they're flush with the ground and unmapped making them virtually impossible to play for first timers. When playing this course as an ~900 rated player I felt like I could birdie just about every hole. A few of the latter holes take a decent long throw or roller to get into birdie position and those holes are usually pretty open. Sometimes it's nice to play a decent course where you can rock the scorecard and don't really have any risk of losing a disc either.

Doesn't Offend, Doesn't Excite 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 15, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Clear-cut lines for fairways and straightforward play here: on every hole you know what the preferred attack should be and you can always see the basket. Great beginner course. Can be played quickly. Well maintained and a good mix of long and short holes. There's a playground at this course so if you have kids, that's a nice feature to have close by.

Cons:

Overall, it's not a pretty walk - a "normal" neighborhood course. Sometimes there's lots of walkers and course winds through heavily traveled walkways.

Other Thoughts:

You can get a good workout for your game on this course - it's open so you can try all of your shots on every hole and get a good training session in. On a windy day, it's a great place to practice those wind shots as there's nowhere to hide.

Little course, little challenge, alot of fun on windy days though 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 27, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Short holes, fairly open, with few trees peppering fairways to keep it interesting. This course can be a beating in the summer with little protection from the sun, but if you want some fun on a windy day this course will definitely serve up a challenge being that it is basically devoid of windbreaks.

Cons:

Short and difficult to play on hot, windless summer days. Another reviewer put it well, that the last two holes are basically baskets in the middle of fields.

Other Thoughts:

If you have a friend who wants to play a round with you and they aren't very experienced, taking them here first would probably be a good experience for them. The course is open and very forgiving on any day with normal weather conditions.

A Simple Little Gem 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 4, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This park is very clean, safe, and well maintained. The cement tee pads are excellent and the baskets are in great shape. The tee signs were easy to read and were in great shape. Some of the baskets on the front side are next to a drainage wash (with a downhill roll, you might find yourself in that OB) making you play smart on those holes. They have great little wooden signs near the baskets on most holes telling you where the next tee pad is located; that was very helpful. Most of the holes are wide-open shots and had just a few trees. You should not lose a disc here. They do have a bathroom and many trashcans on site.

Cons:

This is a simple little gem of a course and really has very few negatives. However this is what I came up with. This park was fairly crowded and the course does follow the sidewalk through the first half of the holes. So waiting to throw can happen often, but keep in mind we did play this course on a Saturday. You do have to back track to some of the tees on the front 9, so keep your eyes on the group behind if there is one, but it really wasn't too bad. Last thing I can think of is there have been some hole adjustments, so some of the distances might be off on the tee signs. I would trust what is posted in our Hole Info, to be safe.

Other Thoughts:

The Fun Factor he is just OK for me.There are many ace runs pn this course. The holes do get a bit longer on the back nine. So it plays to you warming up before throwing long. This course didn't seem like much at first, but it turned out to be a fun little course. I can see myself going back there to play it again without a doubt.
