Reviewed: Played on:May 23, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Very challenging
Great Upkeep
Concrete tees
Mostly shaded

Cons:

Some tees are half size, can make it hard for those who have a ritual run up.
Luck comes into play on some holes

Other Thoughts:

This course is as equally challenging as beaver.... instead of large open areas you have short heavily wooded holes that will have dog legs and protected baskets because of trees and etc. If you are a big arm type of person you will HATE this course because it requires softer more accurate throws. This course is for the thinking player! That being said, it is a great course and a even greater pairing with its other half beaver, these are MUST plays if you are coming through the area.

played both- two of two 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 17, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

*short holes are made challenging by woods, and heavily curved (dog legged holes)
*concrete teeboxes
*great layout
*more shade coverage then beaver 2 to 14 and even 15 can be considered "covered"
*scenic, nice walk
*finesse course, if you are a big arm, no control thrower you will hate most of this course.
*kind of diverse, but its "s"turn the trees, or throw hard right or left around trees, then a few wide open shots
*not alot of wind-again big for playing in texas
*baskets were a little easier to visualize from tee box on this course compared to beaver
*most of course was easy to navigate (print the map)

Cons:

*could have trouble finding first hole for first timers---print the map
*some short holes....but are made challenging
*i can see after rain how this course may not dry quickly
*even though there are a few long holes there are only a couple that you are able to really let one go
*nothing really close, so bring water from home
--again like last post nothing that would keep me away, overall, a very nice playable course, i would be a bit hesitant to play this course after a heavy rain

Other Thoughts:

we played both courses in one day back to back with no break, this is a shorter course, so im glad we played this second. which i would suggest doing if you choose to play both. Print map from above link section

Pros:

This is a very nice but tight wooded par-3 course with lots of variety in shots.
Several elevation changes throughout the day.
By far the most difficult course I've played.
Concrete tee pads.
There are also PVC pipes sticking out of the ground that will direct you to any unseen baskets.

Cons:

Some poison ivy but I've seen much worse at other courses.
Little bit of a walk to get to first tee.
Could use an extra sign on a few holes where you need to backtrack down the fairway to find the path to the next tee box.

Other Thoughts:

Clipping a tree or two and ending up in the woods is just part of your day here so don't get frustrated.
Also, if you start early you may want to play both Coyote and Beaver back-to-back before the Texas sun wears you out. Bring water and enjoy this great course.

Pros:

The holes are fun, its hard to lose your disc If you are close you must play.

Cons:

no stores nearby, lots of poisonous snakes, just recently while playing hole 1 my disc landed on the edge of the woods within 1 inch of a water moccasin, be careful out there. I also almost stepped on a copper head snake at hole 1 when the sun was starting to set. BE CAREFUL. Parking kinda sucks.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a lot of fun! its great for going out with your friends and just having a good time.

I like Coyote more than I like Bea/er 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Big concrete tee pads.

2) Signs include all the pertinent information, Hole #, distance, Par, a decent map and next tee indicators.

3) Mach baskets in good condition but hard to find on some of the wooded holes.

4) Cedar trees . . . one of my top 5 trees for disc golf courses . . . all o/er the course, especially in the densest part of the wooded holes. I just lo/e those trees.

5) Some benches around for you to sit while waiting on the teepads.

6) Garbage cans all o/er to help curb the littering. All in all the course isn't bad for litter, but I would guarantee that is due to the locals filling the garbage cans.

7) Much more technical course than the Bea/er course. I prefer tighter shorter technical courses because I lo/e hitting the exact line I intended to throw.

8) Port-o-potty in the parking lot always a welcome site.

Cons:

1) Apparently there are two big negati/es . . poison i/y and poisonous snakes . . both which I assume are not big problems in January when I was there, but I felt I needed to include it in my re/iew.

2) The perimeters of the fairways are tough . . . stay in the fairway or you will struggle. I ha/e no problem with that establishing fairways, but at the same time, slightly more forgi/ing areas within the first 5 -10 feet is better in my opinion.

3) Maintenance on the wooded holes could be upgraded to help this course maintain a higher le/el . . . I certainly expect o/er time for this courses ratings to diminish . . . it will remain a great course but the holes in the woods will struggle o/ertime. Turf will be non-existant, mulch will be needed, trees will see some damage and fairways will become more open.

Other Thoughts:

This is the more "fun" course but it is also the less /isual course. It is fun for me because I lo/e tight technical holes. It is fun, challenging, and nicely wooded to keep the Texas heat off of you. It isn't quite on par with most 4.5 disc rated courses because it could use some more maintenance, but it is not worthy of the 4.00 rating.

Pros:

Wow this course was a lot of fun very wooded and secluded from the next hole. This is a quiet course that has plenty of challenges but is still exciting enough to want to come back and play again.

Cons:

Some tees are harder to find from the basket but not too bad. Some poison ivy so be careful when you miss the fairway.

Other Thoughts:

This is a really fun course and if you make it down there you definitely need to hit this one up.

2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 13, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course will give you some challenge. It is very technical most of the time. Very crowded by trees requires very solid lines. The trees give great shade in the dead heat of summer and also cut out some of the wind interference. But it does open up to give you a chance to air it out a bit (#14 & 16). The tee pads are concrete and solid, not cracked or falling apart at all. Signs are up at every hole that have distances to pin and maps and any OBs. Also, the grass is almost always mowed. This place is very well maintained.

Cons:

The only thing might be getting slightly lost. On a few holes the path to the next tee is halfway or so back down the fairway. (#2 & 8 for example) On a few holes there's also a path that has been worn down that goes no-where that are from others looking for the next tee... but if you are mindful of the signs at the tee, finding the next tee shouldnt be too much of a problem
Edit: The misleading paths would only add about 5 or so minutes to your play. (i realized the word "lost" is kind of strong)

Trash is also a slight problem. There are trashcans placed at most of the tees but there is still trash around. Occasionally #8s can is too full and trash just ends up all around the tee pad.

Other Thoughts:

There are new short tees. They are marked with irrigation flags. There isnt distances or signs at them yet but they do provide a good variety. I think they might become permanant if there is positive feedback.

Enjoy this awesome course and throw your trash away properly!! Thanks :)

great scenery.

unlike many courses, wind has little effect because of all of the trees.

Cons:

poison ivy....that is about it

Other Thoughts:

i have lived within seven miles of this park since it has been opened and never noticed it. i have only been playing for six months, and i still get angry that i didn't discover disc golf sooner. this is a great location well worth the drive, and cedar hill has many great restaurants. parking lot is not that bad. my car is lowered and i have no problems. i like this course a little more than beaver, because i don't have to worry about losing discs in the pond.

Fun After Work 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 13, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very challenging course. Makes you throw low( cause of over hanging trees ) and accurate( again cause of all the trees ). The tree cover is nice on hot Texas days. Nice variety of long and short holes. Never felt like I was throwing the same hole over and over. Fairways are well groomed, no tall grass or weeds to fight with. Most holes had alternate basket placements which would help give the course variety if you played it often.

Cons:

Bring a map other wise you will be hunting for the next tee. You have to walk back down the fairway on a few hole to get to the path that leads to the next tee. Some signs indicating where to go from the basket would be very helpful. Some signs at the parking lot telling you where to go for hole one would also be nice. Since there are 2 courses on the land you have to walk through part of Beaver to get to Coyote. Again if I hadn't had a map from this site on my phone I would have been lost. Some tees where covered in a layer of dirt. If I get a chance to play here again I might bring a long a broom to clean off the tees.

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed this course a lot. It really challenged me. I hope to get a chance to play it again. People I met where friendly. Saw one dog with their owner so I guess the park is dog friendly. I would say for the most park the course is cart/stroller friendly as long as you have big wheels.

Pros:

Excellent use of the terrian, with a very high level of difficulty when it comes technical shots.

Cons:

Not a lot of shot variety. Only really need a putter, mid, and fairway to play the course. I used my putter for the majority of the shots. Great form work, but I never felt like I had a hole that I could really let loose on.

Other Thoughts:

This would be a nice course to play back to back with the Beaver course. Make sure that you bring good shoes and long pants. The terrian is rough and rocky and lined with thorny vines and poison ivy.

Coyotes Can Bite 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 19, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Extremely technical for a short course. Distances are very short, but Coyote makes up for the lack of length with quality of hole design. You can throw a well placed drive and clip a mesquite stump and still end up in the briar patches. This course with test your skill and your mental patience. If you can play smart and execute your shots, then you can post a good score. At the Cedar Hill Chill some pros had difficulty navigating Coyote safely. That being said every disc golfer in the DFW area is doing themselves a disservice by not playing here. Great course.

Cons:

Some of the toughest rough I know of in the area. Stay in the fairway and don't get eaten up. Not really a con for me, as I like this aspect of the course. More of a suggestion for beginner players.

Other Thoughts:

I use to dislike this course when I first played it, but as my game gets better and better this course brings out the best and worse of my game. Something I have come to love about this course. Bring lots of water in the summer and fall. It's a long walk back to the parking lot and it can get quite toasty even in the shade of the thick trees. Go play Cedar Hill!

Wooded and Challenging 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 8, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Let's step up the game a little bit with this more wooded and challenging course on the same land as Beaver. Trees are a big factor here with a good variety of tunnel shots and a lot of low ceiling shots with some tight lines. Elevation does play a big part throughout most of the course with a lot of up hill shots and down hill shots to make each hole interesting and challenging. There is a nice mixture of short and long shots with some dog leg left's and right shots with a chance for an Ace on a few shorter holes. The concrete tee pad's are in great shape and the course has nice sign's with the the hole information and it directs you to the next tee. There are multiple pin locations and benches and trash cans throughout most of the course and the park is really clean and very well maintained. You can't forget about the big red hole numbers on top of the baskets and on the tee boxes to to make it easier to locate each tee box and basket. The navigation of this course is pretty easy and you should not have any problems.

Cons:

The con's are very slim here with not to many to name. The park can get crowded on the weekends, which is normal for a great course.

Other Thoughts:

Over all, this is a fun and challenging course and is well worth the drive from anywhere in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. i put it on the Top 10 list of must play courses that you should play.

EPIC Disc Golf Dallas tour!!! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 11, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Very impressive Dallas course! Most courses in Dallas are in wide open areas, Coyote is the complete opposite. Beautiful scenery in a forrest trek, and an extremely well thought layout. This was my first time playing and it was no trouble at all to get through the entire course. I have paid to play in courses that are similar in design to Coyote, where the trees are used as the path. The course was very clean and signs were clear with little to no graffiti. The shots were very challenging with a variety of different paths needed for the deuce. A mid range disc or even a hard putter is crucial for tee offs at this course. Tree lines work well as the rough area you don't want to be in. Holes are short and sweet and they will really test your accuracy. I cannot say enough about how INCREDIBLE this course is!

Cons:

My only complaint about Coyote is that it is mostly short game. I feel that long range holes can be just as technical as the short ones. There are no holes that are much longer than 400ft. If Coyote had a solid 800 footer or a couple of 600s, that would make this course into the perfect disc golf experience. Still this is a very sexy course to play.

Other Thoughts:

What I found funny is that people would skip Beaver completely to play Coyote. Two groups I saw played number 7 of Beaver and then went straight to play 1 of Coyote. I think I saw maybe 3 out of 15 people playing Beaver. I want to say that if they had made the two courses originally one MEGA-Course, it would have been an Unstoppable force of human nature. I can only imagine, but i digress. The Two courses are so cool to play in succession, with the exception of number 9 on Beaver. There was something up with the drainage system because it was very muddy and it hadn't been raining lately.

Tons of Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 27, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Course seems to be dedicated to DG. Porta-John in parking lot. Course was clean and maintained well. Another DG park on same grounds.

Concrete tee pads. Tee signs with layouts. Trashcans throughout course. Benches to sit and relax. Multiple pin locations available.

In the most part a heavily wooded course. Elevation throughout course that was used very well, no huge inclines, but lots of nice small to medium sized mounds throughout that the course is laid out on.

Never once did I feel like I was going to lose my disc in the rough, may have been the time of year I played perhaps.

Fun/Wow factor was through the roof! Couldn't wait to get to the next tee and see what was next!!

Cons:

Parking lot was tore up and small. Not that big of a deal, but worth noting. Also, long walk to first hole, in and around some holes on Beaver.

Wish there could have been some longer holes available in the woods.

I don't remember where, but navigation was a little tricky once or twice during play, however a map would have cleared that up.

Other Thoughts:

I had a blast playing this course. Once you hit hole 2 you can say goodbye to your drivers until you get back out to hole 14. You're going to be using a lot of mid-range and putters. Lots of technical work in the woods. Sometimes you can go for the Ace or Deuce, sometimes you have to really plan your lie, to get an upshot for a par. On a few holes my score was punished by playing pinball with my discs, but I was having too much fun to care.

Interesting thought: If there would be a swap of holes between Beaver and Coyote: 11, 12, and 13 of Beaver fit in better on Coyote, and 1, 14, 15, and 16 of Coyote fit better on Beaver. Not a negative comment, but that would make the courses completely different than each other, however, this just makes you want to play both courses during a visit.

A few holes worth noting: Hole 6 is a great hole that looks like an ace opportunity, but you need to have a nice shot to get over a little low ravine and back up to the pin. Hole 10 didn't look difficult, till I scouted it out. Throwing in an open area, the pin was up the hill to the right, with tree's everywhere. I really had fun with both of those. Hole 18 is made difficult by the super narrow fairway next to the tee box. Not the narrowest I have played, but no less difficult because of the length of the wooded area you throw out of. These are three of the finest holes I have played to date.

DFW's best 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A short (but not too short) technical course.

A few of the holes have been lengthened sense the last time I played out here.

Benches on about every 3rd hole.

LOTS OF SHADE which is great on a hot day like today was.

Cement tee pads on every hole.

Tee signs on every hole.

Good use of what little elevation is in the park.

Cons:

Some of the Tee Pads are too short.

Could use some more benches.

Poison Ivy, lots of it.

Briers if you get off the fairway. (I have yet to play here and not draw blood)

Other Thoughts:

When ever I play Cedar Hill, I play both courses back to back. (Beaver 1 - 16, Coyote 2-1, Beaver 17-18)

Together with the Beaver course, Cedar hill is the best place to play disc golf in the DFW are by far.

Coyote really makes you throw your line. If you throw in the rough, you are in trouble.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 5, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Tons of technical tree holes.
-Couple of chances to seriously bomb some discs, especially #14
-Nice and shaded for most of the course
-Pretty clean
-Well maintained. Granted, looked like they had mowed the day before.
-Will demand every shot you have in your bag to do well
-2 great 18 hole courses out here.
-Great use of the natural terrain
-No water holes

Cons:

-Trees....lots of trees.
-Can get muddy after some rain
-Some of the holes can be real disc eaters
-Didn't seem to be enough places to sit down
-Speed bumps in parking lot.
-No water holes

Other Thoughts:

Great course. I now have a new favorite hole of all time! Hole #14 out here is just a great hole to really let one rip. The pin is tucked into some trees so you have to have some accuracy.

Surprisingly, this course didn't seem to be too crowded on the 4th of July weekend. Only had to let one group play through and they were way better than us, so it was ok.

This course requires having to throw to the right and the left. It really doesn't favor one throw or the other. Great mix of right and left doglegs and a few long holes.

Ace opportunities on a few holes as well.

If you come down to DFW for disc golf, this should be on the list to play. And you locals, it is totally worth the drive.
