Lower Dam 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 11, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Discgolf along the Kootenay River, below the Libby Dam!

Plays thru Different Terrain, feeling like Two Different 9ers

Front Plays mostly Open, Starting from the Bottom of the Dam, going out along the River Flats. Kootenay possibly in Play on 1 2 5 6 & 7

Back Plays Up on the Ridge 10-15, then Throws Off the Ridge back to the Flats, and Finishes thru Mature Pine and Aspen Trees

Really Enjoyed the Back 9, all together, and each Individually... Great Balance in the Design

Top of the World AceRun, is definitely a Crowd Pleaser

Rockcropping Greens on 3 10 & 14 are Cool, with 3 being the Best Green out there

5 & 6 both have their Baskets precariously placed near Dropoffs into the Kootenay, but there's no real Danger of going all the way to the River

7 is a Bad@$$, along the River 587', with a tricky 'Overflowage Pondy' infront of the Green

10 11 12 was a very satisfying Turkey :)

Finishes Really strong, even after the Top of the World Shot
Many Mature Pine and Aspen, make getting 3s on the last Two Holes a Thorough Challenge

Yellow Banded DISCatchers! 10 14 n 15 use MachVs

July and things are Grown, but nothing that is Eating Plastic

The Bottom of Libby Dam is a pretty Cool n Unique spot to Start a Round of Discgolf

Cons:

Locating Unmarked Tees is a Headache for First-timers

6 n 9 are Filler
but once you Play 7, you have to Have 7 on the Course... so 6 n 9 are necessary Evils I suppose

Not a Fan of Hole 9. Just put the Basket Halfway up the Trail to 10... it'll go from being a Lame par 5 to an Infamous par 6 :p

Can count All the Fairway Trees of Holes 3-9 on your Hands

Not the Best Footing out there

Tall Grass, but not Thick, but some is the stuff that Sticks in your Socks

Couple Sets of Power Towers go thru the Course, but they Weren't Noisy

Other Thoughts:

You'll Absolutely Need the MAP

Finding the Natural Tees on 1 2 3 4 5 8 & 17, can be Difficult with the Tallgrass, and they Weren't Flagged or Marked... just the 3'x6' Patches of Dirt

Long walks to Tees on 3 5 14 15 & 18

1 is by the Lot, where the Gravel Path starts along the River. Just a Natural unmarked Tee
2 is between the Vaulted Toilet and River
3 is a walk to the Power Towers, with the LonePine and Birdhouse framing the Fairway
5 is another walk, towards 5s Basket and a Transplanted Aspen with the Rocks
17 is between 16Basket and Road, on the other side of the Tree

Tees on 10-16 have Better Worn Paths to Them, and usually had Flags, Rocks, and or Carpet... making Navigation up there easier

Holes Use the Road for Tees often too, but there's no Pink Dot Markings anymore/currently
6 7 & 9 use the Road 'Turnouts' for a Teepad
8 & 17 have a Natural Tee, but there's also Road near them
18 Tees from the Parking for the Vaulted Toilet

Blind Baskets on 4 12 13 15 & 17
15 has a Washout Ravine before the Green, that's worth Scouting before you Throw

---

This is a very good Companion Course with Kooky Noosa

Cheap Camping on the River at Dunn Creek n Blackwell Flats :D

During July, definitely best played Early or Late in the Day, while the Sun's behind the Mountains, optimally

Not sure if Course is Permanent, Seasonal, or Temporary

Definitely Worth Playing, especially if you're also gonna play Kooky Noosa :)
