Pros:
Lincoln Ave.Park West was the first of the 2 9 hole disc courses in Mt. Dora . It sits on a small flat piece of land in a park with just enough trees to provide shade for almost the entire course . This park was mowed , clean and in great condition . The suggested parking lot next to hole 1 is right off of Lincoln Ave. is very small and unpaved . I parked in a larger nicer lot up off the main drag ( East 11th Ave. next to the tennis courts and started at hole #4 . There is a Port O Let onsite , The baskets are Discatchers with 2 baskets ( red is short and yellow is the long basket ) placements and there are 2 tee pads per hole . The signage is good enough , blue posts for the longs and white for the shorts .There are some benches placed around the park , distance ? The distance varies here , but mostly favors very short holes . Even with the park being on such a small piece of land , much was done with the course design to incorporate trees with low canopies or low lying twisted branches , and added length with the longer tees . They used about every inch of of this park for the disc golf course . Even the small strip of land behind the tennis courts was used for a tight lined hole . Even though this course is in such a small space , there is some fun factor here . This would be the kind of course that you would take a few discs after dinner or on the weekends and throw and talk with your friends . Some fun holes were #1, a putter throw to a basket that sits in the middle of a bunch of twisted trees . I now wish I took a picture of it . #6 has some obstacles to get to the long basket ( 331' ) . #8 turns slight left to right with trees to hit in your path if you don't turn it enough . #9 is an okay finishing hole that runs parallel to the road and leads you down to the Lincoln Ave parking lot . No signature holes . This would be the perfect type of course to learn disc golf on . Short . Teaches you to throw low and level . It is Florida flat , maybe flatter . It is a very quick play . I played it in under 25 minutes . A group of 4 could knock this out in an hour or less . Disc Risk : Near zero . The park is well kept up and there is not any rough to speak of . Definitely a course where you can sit on one of the benches and relax and enjoy the scenery .
Cons:
#1 Safety . The park is tight and the lines to some of the holes run close to each other . Since this is a good beginner/casual park , you have to be aware of the other players in the park , or you will be wearing one of their discs . There are also some park users that will walk right through one of your lane . Please take a couple of minutes and give them some park courtesy . . #2 lack of challenge . Even from the longs , it could be a birdie fest for some good ams or the pros . This course was not designed for competition . Anything other con would take away from what the course really is . I do wish they had a better bathroom arrangement .
Other Thoughts:
I think Mt. Dora made their point , if it was to introduce disc golf to the area and provide an alternative environment for the kids other than the obvious tennis courts here . Coupled with the new Nature Park course less than half a mile away . you now have either 2 course to progress from/to , or you have 18 holes of disc golf . Yes , it's short , but it's fun , too . My Recommendation : great for families , dates , newbies , and casuals . maybe even some fanatics . They put some money and time into this course , give it a look when you come to Nature Park . It will be worth a quick round or 2 .
