Tour of Minnesota 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 14, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

One review long ago claims it's all boring. I beg to differ. This course is like a tour of Minnesota. It includes woods, prairie, open fields, lake, marsh. The only things missing are some elevation and maybe a pine forest tunnel. All this is accomplished in just 9 holes. Every time I play this I feel like I'm walking through half the state. It's probably not busy, pause and take in a little scenery during your round.

So, here's a different kind of description of each hole:
1) Manicured park field, long
2) Open wildlife field
3) Thick woods
4) Shaped open-into-woods shot
5) Prairie, 2 marshes, requires shot placement (my favorite hole)
6) Open field
7) Technical peninsula with water and trees (try playing as an island)
8) Lake crossing, into woods (from blue tee)
9) Manicured park again

Cons:

The tees are not maintained. They don't fix up the natural tees, they don't repaint the tees on paths, and pretty sure they don't plan to upgrade to concrete.

I would say there are 2-3 holes that feel pretty similar. (mainly #1 and 2, and 6 is boring) The prairie feel seems to be going away on hole 5 as they seem to keep the rough trimmed down more than they used to.

It is mostly RHBH designed. The only right-turning shots (that you don't create for yourself) are the approaches on #1, 2.

I wish there was a sign after 8 pointing to 9, I always forget which way to turn since I'm only here maybe once/year.

Other Thoughts:

Many of the reviews are complaining about water or length. Well, this isn't a beginner course. That's what makes it great! How many 9-hole non-beginner courses can you name? Although you can play the green tees and it is much closer to beginner level. Too many 9-hole courses are just shoved into parks with little design effort. If you want a short, boring, non-dangerous course, head to Shakopee 18 at the other end of town.

BTW, there are several holes that have blue tees on the asphalt paths. I find this to be a positive, gives good footing. 2, 4, 7, 8 are the holes. If you don't see the paint, well that's because they haven't repainted the tees....ever.
