Salamonie Reservoir 9-Holer 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 20, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is part of the Salamonie Reservoir Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area. The course is near many other amenities including bathrooms, drinking water, picnic shelters, a general store, beach, campground, and walking trails. Even though this is a short 9-hole course, you can make a full day here with other activities.
The signage is generally good. The hand made, custom signs look great and contain the hole length, layout, and obstacles.
The tees are framed with wood and filled with gravel. They are generally in good shape and get the job done.
The holes are more difficult that the lengths would suggest. A good variety of shots over the 9 holes. Some of the fairways are tight and accuracy is key to scoring well here.
The views of the surrounding land and reservoir are really nice at times, especially hole #2. Very scenic.

Cons:

There is no course map and the course loops back on itself multiple times. Navigation is not difficult, but can be confusing for first time play.
There are several long walks, especially the walk from hole 9's basket back to the parking lot.
While the baskets themselves are in decent shape, they are an older style and do not catch well at times.
Hole #8 was extremely easy and feels out of place and just thrown in to complete the 9 holes.
Hole #4 plays right next to a pavilion and would be a safety issue during warmer months. Parkgoers have to cross the fairway to get to the pavilion.

Other Thoughts:

This course was more challenging than I thought it would be and I had a good time playing a couple of rounds here. I don't think I would pay the entry fee to the park just to play the course, but if you are here during the off months or if you have an annual park entrance permit, this course is definitely worth a look. Overall a decent course.
