The Wind Blows, The Course Doesn't 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 16, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course setup is great for a beginner/intermediate level player. There is a good mix of holes ranging from 200' to 350' with the longest hole touching 500'; you'll use every level of driver in your bag if you want to. The tee signs are all easy to follow, the course flows pretty easily from hole to hole, and there are enough trees to frustrate you a little bit. Tee boxes are sized well, and there's enough drainage rock to make some artificial OB for those willing to play it. I would probably play everything as a Par 3 instead of playing the few listed Par 4's as such, but that's not really the course's fault.

Cons:

Wind. It's really windy. Be prepared to smash your putts out there.

Other than that, the course does get a little monotonous after a while. The holes across the road didn't impress me, probably because that side has significantly lesser tree coverage than the first side (which doesn't have a ton of trees either). This is good for beginners learning the game and intermediate players trying to extend their drives and score below par, but advanced players will likely find the course a little too easy.

Other Thoughts:

I stopped here for a quick round on a drive down I-65, and I will probably do it again due to it's proximity to the expressway. I would probably rank it below Kereiakes Park in my Bowling Green Course rankings, but that would not stop me from playing here every so often.

Pros:

Great course for beginners.
Virtually no chance of loosing a disc.
Well manicured.
Easy to find. Convienent.

Cons:

Not challenging - of course I still haven't gotten a hole in one. No wind breaks, on a slightly windy day you will feel it. that is really the only thing about the course that is challenging.

Other Thoughts:

Me and my buddies work close enough that we can play the front nine at lunch and do so regularly. If you are out there between 11:30 and 1 on a weekday you'll probably see us. Because it is open and not incredibly challenging, it is great for beginners.

The big tree in the middle of the back nine can eat your disc if your not careful. Hit the giant hole in it and it will fall down into the tree 8 or 10 feet. if you played this course and pulled an orange groove out of that tree, it is mine, hit me up.

Let It Rip... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 28, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

The first thing I will say about this course was the access to this park was very easy. It is only about a mile off of I-65 in Bowling Green. The park itself is VERY VERY nice. The beautiful landscaping is nice and the grass is well maintained. (lots of actual grass and very few weeds)

The course itself would be considered as gently rolling. The concrete tee-pads are in good shape and the signs are in good shape, easy to find and accurate. This course does favor a player that can drive the disc 320 or more. You will need to get loose before the first tee. The baskets were also in pretty good shape.

Hole 1 is a dead straight 405' that just begs for you to launch it.

Holes 2-8 are lightly to moderately wooded holes that offer a good test of shotmaking while providing ample opportunity at making birdies.

Hole 9 is a very short par 3 that is a HARD turn to the right. There is a mando on this hole that required a very hard turn (rhbh) or big (rhfh) fade. Very tough hole for a rhbh.

Hole 10-12 are back to the lightly wooded holes where long drives will provide chances at birdie.

Hole 13-18 are very open and relatively flat. There are a few trees and at least 1 area of o.b. in this section of the course, but there is an out (safe area) on just about every hole.

Even though this course is pretty long, it didn't seem to overly favor the longer arms. My playing partner and I have very different games, but we both wound up with our usual scores as compared to par.

Cons:

Even though I absolutely loved the first 12 holes, 13-18 could use a few more obstacles to make this a Top notch course.

I don't remember any low ceiling required shots.

Two other things that I found missing were benches and water. They may have been there, but I didn't find them.

Other Thoughts:

I will absolutely be back to play this course again. It does provide some challenges for the technical player while also providing the big arms several chances to let it fly. I really enjoyed the scenery of the park. Well worth the hour drive each way.

Got a controlled 350’+ drive? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 9, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The quaintly named Lovers' Lane park disc golf course is situated in the lightly rolling front quarter of a large park otherwise dedicated to over a dozen soccer fields (some lighted). Holes that range from 225 to 500 feet (most in the mid 300's) combine with voluminous parking to make this course an easy add to the annual Bowling Green Ams, where the occasional winds can influence shot selection.

Awesome concrete tees, huge park trees to define lines, and no underbrush add to a creative course layout to let the Intermediate to Advanced disc golfer really show off their distance drives. During tournament play, the clean rock lined drainage areas are used as out of bounds to force even more control of said drives.

The flow of the course is mainly intuitive because it is so open: you usually only have to look for the nearest tee sign from the basket you just completed. Starting by the shelter at the left front corner of the (first) parking lot, you angle out 400' across the open field, then hit a couple of annies (rhbh) - hole 2 being a little contrived, and hole 3 feeling longer and tougher than its stated 285' - before reaching two of the prettiest holes on the course. Hole 4 drives over a rolling valley to the other side, and 5 comes back the other way with more trees and rocks to 'worry' your shot. The next really interesting shot might be the #9 mando anny that now has a tarp instead of the less attractive chain link seen in the picture. At this point, you're back near the shelter, so you might want to catch your breath, because the back nine feels quite a bit longer.

Hole #10 is lengthy, and you'll need to keep your drive low or to the left of the tree 150 feet out. 11 and 12 basically parallel each other, before crossing the entry drive for the lengthy hole 13. #14 shoots between a pair of large pines, and the 500' #15 ends all the way across the field to the left of a gorgeous, huge tree (wish I knew my tree species!). 16 & 17 work back to the main driveway, which you cross to take on the sweeping hyzer finish on 18. Overall, when you finish Lovers', you'll have loosened your arm up a bit more than some of the other, wooded, technical courses in town.

The (Innova disc catcher) baskets catch very well, but do have the dreaded chastity belt at the top, which I manage to clank only on what should be 'gimme' birdie putts! Tee signs (as seen in the pictures here) are decent: they show the primary line to the basket, as well as some of the obstacles to avoid, and appear to be fairly accurate for this course.

Cons:

For a relatively lengthy course (almost 6000'), there are surprisingly few benches near the tees (though I did note two or three picnic tables along the course). There aren't a lot of other activities inside this park for non-discing members of the family to stay entertained (though it is right next door to an elementary school, so their playground might be accessible?). And depending on the season and the way the wind is blowing, the extensive cow pastures lining the southwest side of the course can be, shall we say, 'aromatic'.

Other Thoughts:

This course will force a typical Rec level player to make good upshots and putts to keep hitting par 3's, while the longer armed players at intermediate and above have a good chance of putting together a number of birdies: it just depends on who has an accurate 320-350' drive in their bag.

Good start 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Dec 30, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

There were a few holes early that were in some trees, where if you missed your line you would be scrambling to make par. Other than that the course was pretty open. One thing it definitely had going for it was length though. With an average hole length of 330, and multiple holes in the 400 ft range you could throw it hard and let them fly a lot. The course was in good condition with sinage, teepads, and baskets all being good. The place itself was nice and the grass was amazingly green. (it was strange) It was just a nice park with a pretty good disc golf course.

Cons:

Too open, some of the holes got repetitive, and honestly if I lived here I'd stop after 12 and start over again. The last few holes were just out in a field and decent length. But they really had no character and they got to be boring. Also there's a cow pasture running along one end of the course, and lets just say it wasn't the greatest smelling thing the world had ever known.

Other Thoughts:

The first 12 holes I really enjoyed, and actually if the open holes stopped at about 15 that would have been fine too, and the course was definitely a 3.5 if not a 4 at that point. But it just got boring. Overall it was a nice park with a nice course but it doesn't deserve as high reviews as it's gotten in my opinion.

This course was beautiful. The grass is very lush. Mature trees give you a classic park feel. 2 personalities on this course. Front 9 a little more technical, back 9 a little more open. Rolling hills through the course give it some character. Maybe not a challenging course but a chance to work on a lot of skills

Cons:

Not many. The back 9 can be a little redundant but it was fun. Some of the front 9 fairways come close to other fairways.

A must play in Bowling Green, the aesthetics are too much to not appreciate.

Lovely Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 11, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Lover's Lane is a very pretty course that features groves of hardwood trees and gently rolling hills over nice green grass. The course is very seperate from the other parts of the park so you do not have to worry about non discers.

The design of the course really makes the most of the gentle elevation changes on this property. There are only 3 or 4 holes that play flat. The design also brings the trees into play as much as possible requiring at least a minimum of shot shaping while allowing most holes to be thrown either FH or BH. Even in the mostly open back nine there are some trees to contend with as well as some thoughtful OB to add difficulty. Lover's Lane offers a pretty decent variety of hole length with a few nice short ace runs all the way up to a 500+ long bomber. Both the front and back nines loop back to the same point.

This course has a nice easy flow to it. This is helped by the bright yellow Discatchers (in great shape) and the tee signs at each tee.

There are very nice amenities at this course. A practice basket with distance markers, bathrooms, water fountain, pavilion near #1, benches and garbage cans. The course itself is also very well maintained with the grass mowed regulary and some nice mulch around the baskets to prevent wear.

This is a great course for beginners up through advanced.

Cons:

This is really not an overly challenging course. There ae not any holes that really make you stop and think about your throw. If you can drive in the 300' range you can drop some pretty low scores here.

The tee's are beginning to show quite a bit of wear. Cracks are beginning to form and erosion around the tees are increasing.

The back nine is a little boring. Without the trees of the front nine the holes are a little repetitive.

Other Thoughts:

I played this course during the 2010 BG Ams and I had a lot of fun. The course is really well kept and is enjoyable to play. With the amount of short, woods courses in the BG area this is a nice change of pace. I think Lover's Lane is another nice course for the area. I am planning on playing the 2011 BG Ams and I hope I get to play it again.

Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed this course. It was a bit repetitive but I believe the addition of rock OB's and landscape added to the overall enjoyment of the course. I think the course designer did a very nice job making the best out of the land available. And beautiful Kentucky bluegrass the whole 18 holes!

Some trees but not many 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 27, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Large teepads on all holes. Slight elevation changes on each hole with the front nine playing through and around a large grove of trees. Younger trees are starting to come into play now, shaping the routes to the baskets nicely. Most holes with defined lines have multiple routes that can taken if you're creative enough to look at it outside the box. The back nine is more wide open with a variety of distances to be covered. Overall several holes are aceable and others are shots were you can really let them fly and still not be close to the basket.

Cons:

Some teepads are cracked, which may affect footing but I didn't find this to be a big issue. Also on several of the teepads, the surrounding dirt is being washed away which will eventually lead to fracture of the concrete. On any given day the wind can be fierce on this course and can greatly affect shot selection. I find the course to be between beginner and intermediate friendly. With the length and lack of tight lines, I find this course geared more towards this range of player. More advanced players shouldn't have much trouble achieving low scores here.

Other Thoughts:

Fun course over all and quite scenic. I've found with past experiences out here that during soccer tournaments on the other portion of the park, overflow traffic parks in the middle of number one's fairway. So beware and considerate of others during those times.

Great Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 11, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

First of all this is a well maintained course, it is in great shape and the BG people make sure to keep it that way. the course is very well laid out and changes distances frequently making you utilize different discs and shots off the tee at all times. some shots are shaped the same, but rarely if ever were they performed on back to back tees. Trees were healthy and acted as great obstacles.

Cons:

Hole #10 had a pretty rough tee pad. it was a little rough to throw from but manageable. as is with most of the courses I have played in BG there really wasnt a great place to use the restroom or get water that was close to the course. they did have a fountain near the start of the course but the stream wasnt very strong making it rough to fill a container up. There was also a pretty rough manure smell from the adjacent farm on some of the holes, at times it really made it tough to breathe

Other Thoughts:

it was secluded and away from the park which was nice as it kept you away from childern and people that dont understand the dangers. it was generally quiet and very colorful. fun course with some elevation but the scenery really made it a great course to be at. Make sure you put this one near the top of your list as it isnt super difficult but still enough of a challenge to have a great time.

Not my kind of lover but still a good course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 4, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Nice discatchers in good shape. They are all very visible because most of them are in the open, but the yellow band helps spot the basket if it is tucked behind a basket.
2) Dry creek and a couple of low collection areas are done very well with large cobbles. These are treated as OB and I think they do a nice job making what would be a drainageway or a low wet area to look better than if left natural.
3) This course has a good amount of distance variety. There are a few shorter holes under or around 200' and then there are a good amount of holes between 250-300 and even the 500'+ hole #15.
4) This course has a nice easy flow to it that many courses lack. It may be easier to figure out because it is more open than tightly wooded, but the balance of holes and walks between holes is done very well.
5) Mulch has been placed around baskets where the compaction would have the ground as bare soil. I always appreciate this little effort of having mulch in these bare ground areas, especially where everyone walks!
6) Nice signs with Hole #, Par, distance and a simple diagram. The diagram could be better but it has all of the info on them. They are consistent in their design and are on nice tall 4x4 posts. It actually helps navigation.
7) The turf is in good shape in the wide open areas. The areas where the fairways have a decent amount of tree coverage are lacking in density in areas, but there are almost no places on this course that are totally bare and muddy.
8) There are no real safety issues as the course has tees far enough away from baskets that there shouldn't be any dangerous run-ins with discs. The course is set on its own away from the other activities of the course so there likely will be no issues with other park users.
9) There are a few picnic benches throughout the course but none of them are really close to the tees. They would be well used during slow tourney rounds but it isn't likely that they get much use unless the course is extremely busy. There is a shelter and a sign with the course map at the beginning of the course. There also is a portopotty right near the first tee. Plenty of garbage cans on this course. It isn't every hole but close to every other hole. This will certainly help keep this course very clean.
10) This is a nice park that is gated and closed during evening hours. This definitely helps cut down on crime and vandalism. There is a major soccer complex and other activities but I did not drive through the whole park to see the other features.
11) There is a nice balance of open and moderately wooded holes. There really are no dense woods but there are enough trees on enough holes to make it feel more wooded than it is. This is perhaps likely due to the basket placements forcing some real specific shots and some serious accuracy.
12) This course is very beginner friendly because it is mostly open. There are enough trees to force the beginner to make shots but there are not too many shots that will frustrate them or cause them to take huge #'s like so many wooded courses will do.

Cons:

1) The tees are great overall but the one on Hole #10 is all busted up. The corners are collapsing and it actually is a little bit of a safety concern.

2) #6 tee sign is missing. The post is still there, but the sign is missing.

3) The erosion around the teepads is evident like it is on most courses. This is a circumstance that I think is more avoidable than people realize. It would be no big issue to trench out around the concrete and put mulch around every tee. If the tee areas were on a slope then they could be easily built up with timbers.

4) Diagrams of each hole could be better done. There could be a little more detail and would help greatly in deciphering the obstacles. It isn't horrible because there are not a ton of trees, but I always like to see a detailed diagram and then look at the hole and try and decipher how far the avenues are.

5) I truthfully would like to see some more trees on this course. They did the best they could to use the land they had sure, but it is less of a course because of how open many of the holes are. It is another classic DG course with spotty trees and some rolling KY slopes.

6) There are a not a lot of shots required here. There are mostly straight shots, and many of the holes allow for multiple lanes. You can pick the easiest shot for you and throw it. There simply isn't enough analysis needed here and that is one of the things I love doing in DG . . . analyzing each hole and figuring out my lines.

7) Course is lacking challenge. The wooded holes are not TOO difficult and the biggest challenge on the course is the added length. It would be easy for someone with a 300-350' drive ability to shoot low rounds out here. So for me a 225-275 thrower, it is a little mudane throwing 1 50'-75' upshot on so many holes and it just doesn't feel as enjoyable as other courses.

Other Thoughts:

There is enough for the course to be slightly above average because it is designed well and has generally good maintenance and good facilities, but the lack of dense woods and dramatic elevation changes have this course locked in at a 3.5 disc rating. There isn't much they could do to make the course better than it is except a little more maintenance. With some better turf, improved tee sign diagrams, and a solution for the erosion issues this course could be a 4, but it simply does not live up to the other 4's I have played without these issues. It was fun don't get me wrong I just think it could be improved slightly to get it up to its max of 4 discs. There is enough challenge here to shoot around par or so, but most of the challenge is due to the distance and not shot shaping requirements. I would come back and play this course again, but only because my score was higher than I feel it should have been. I would get bored playing this course over and over, but as I have already said it is well designed for the property. As someone before me said I am doing this course a favor giving it a 3.5 instead of a 3 but it simply is clean, well designed for the property, fun, and is very well maintained. I cannot knock this course too low because I didn't have as much fun as others. It simply didn't present enough of a challenge for me to give it any higher of a grade, but the maintenance and evertyhing else are too good for me to give it a 3. Normally I give courses ratings based on my likeliness to return, but this course is simply a bit of a hybrid of my normal rating style. I feel I have represented enough int he review to explain this though. I imagine playing this course in summer with all of the nice lush turf and the trees leaved out would also be muh better than playing in the winter and when the trees have no leaves. That is another reason it has received an extra 1/2 disc rating from me from where I would have normally reviewed it.

Pros:

Well this is a really fun course indeed. One of the more obvious characteristics is its openness which is more pronounced on the back nine. The grass is well kempt and has virtually no areas with shule to eat your disc. "Aceable" holes are peppered among a layout that should be enjoyed by players of all skill levels.

The front nine plays through gently rolling hills among mature trees. There is a fair amount of variety in terms of shot types. You'll find the pins set in strategic places and offers a fair amount of difficulty. Four and five have some gravel lined drainage areas that add some OB risk for a change too. Number nine has a chain link fence that enforces the mandatory route and is really unique and is a pretty neat addition.

As mentioned, the back nine is more open than the front. The holes are not considerabley longer in terms of length but they do seem to play that way. You can stretch it out a little if you have a big arm. Wind is also going to be more of a factor on the back as well. There are some patches of trees here and there and the baskets are tucked in pretty well to keep the challenge alive when possible. Eighteen is a 340' hyzer shot that leads you back to the parking lot and highlights the course's fairly good layout in general.

The amenities are pretty nice too. Concrete tee pads and really nice tee signs are always a plus. The informative kiosk with a picnic table at the intersection of holes one and ten is a nice addition too. It really highlights the separation of the front and back nine. The Discatcher baskets are in great shape and are also accentuated by mulch laid around some of them. There was a rarity there too, a CLEAN port-a-jon by the parking lot.

Cons:

I guess the biggest con would be lack of challenge. That is not to say that it is overly easy but locals/regular players could probably wear this course out rather quickly. It's not that the course is overly repetitive but seasoned players are not going to bogey very often.

The road on the back nine can be a little distracting.

Some benches and trashcans scattered around would have been nice.

Other Thoughts:

Overall this is a very fun course. It is certainly one of those courses that will have you wanting to come back and play again. Out of the courses I've played in the Bowling Green area this one of the ones I enjoyed most. It is very clean, safe, and really has a great disc golf atmosphere. If you are in the area I highly recommend playing Lovers Lane. Enjoy!

Pros:

The Lover's Lane Disc Golf Course is the cleanest, most well-maintained course that I have ever played. The course sports DISCatcher baskets that are in very good condition. All holes have level, concrete tee pads and accurate up-to-date tee signs.

The course has a great layout that loops back to start after the front and back nine. The holes are well spaced with no crossing fairways. There is no foliage or over-growth to speak of at Lover's Lane. The grass is always cut, and the park is always very clean.

The course is set over gently rolling mounds and hills in an adequate stand of tall, mature trees. The visual appeal of this course is phenomenal. A small pavilion with a picnic table and trash receptacle is located at the start of the course. Although Lover's Lane is not a long course, it will provide ample challenge for the recreational and intermediate players.

The holes are strategically placed in and around the trees in the park, making for a nice variety of shot types, approaches, and putts. The players that throw 400+ probably won't have much of a challenge here, but can certainly enjoy the beauty and layout of the course, and appreciate what it has to offer. There are minimal elevation changes on the course, but the holes are designed to take advantage of all that the grounds have to offer.

I wouldn't say that there are one or two memorable holes in particular, but the course as a whole will be a positive and unforgettable experience. This is a great place to bring new players when introducing them to the sport.

The holes range from 225ft-500ft, with an average of 330ft/hole. The course has plenty of room to throw just about any type of shot that you would want to throw, hyzers, annies, rollers, etc. There are several open tee shots that where the average player can launch a drive off of the box, but the more experience players will most likely be throwing mid-range and putters. The opening hole is just over 400ft, and the 15th measures right around 500ft, but the rest of the holes are mid to upper 200's and lower to mid 300's.

Although there are trees and other obstacles to navigate, there are no tight, technical holes on the course. There are plenty of parking spots in the large, paved parking lot. I will typically see other groups playing when I am there, but I have never seen it crowded. There is a practice basket for warm up located near the first tee. This course, and many of the courses in Bowling Green have mulch around the base of basket, which adds slightly to the visual appeal of the course. Holes 14-17 are pretty much wide open at this point, but there are some younger trees that will increase the challenge of the course as they mature.

Cons:

There are no restrooms at the course. Lover's Lane is actually a soccer complex, and I would guess that there are public restrooms available near the soccer fields, but I honestly don't know if they are locked when soccer games are not in progress. That's about it for the cons of Lover's Lane. It has been a while since I've played here, but I don't recall any benches or trash receptacles on the course.

Other Thoughts:

This is the first course I played in Bowling Green, and I always go back and play here every chance I get. A great course, definitely a must play when coming to the BG area. It is also located close to another one of my favorite courses in BG, Keriakes. I'm guessing here, but these two courses are within 5 miles of each other. This course is used for multiple events held annually in Bowling Green, and is typically part of the rotation schedule for the Bowling Green NT event held annually in the spring. Lover's Lane has been used as the "Final Nine" of the Bowling Green NT Event. Check it out!

Very nice open course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 13, 2008 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course has large concrete pads a great signs. The course is easy to fallow and in a very well kept park. The course is in an area set aside pretty much for only disc golf. It has a lot of long holes with some huge mature trees being spread throughout the course. It is very pleasing to the eye and a great course to get out there and rip some long drives. There is a decent mix of short holes as well and the trees that are there are used very well.

Cons:

The holes on the other side of the street are too open. They have young trees planted but it will be several years before the efect much. The course is also not protected from the weather and it tends to always be windy (not really a bad thing, just be ready for it). Several of the holes are long but it is still an easy course to play. There are very few holes that a good play will not make a 3 on without a massive screw up.

Other Thoughts:

This is a great place to go play in Bowling Green. Really pretty park and just a nice place for a fun relaxing round. It's a great change up from a course like Keriakias right down the road.

Loving life at Lover's! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 2, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

Outstanding course that is well laid out and nicely maintained. Good mix of wooded/open holes that offer something for everyone. Hole #4 requires a well placed shot that must stay below an intimidating, horizontal branch from a giant oak tree while sweeping back uphill untill finally hyzering back around a cluster of trees near the basket...one of my all-time favorites! That branch actually came down about a year ago :-( Still a fun hole, just not as challenging.

Cons:

Very busy road can alter drive selection on holes 7, 12 and possibly 13. A popular course that can get really crowded on weekends and afternoons.

Other Thoughts:

One of the main reasons to play BG! Only a couple of miles from Kereiakes which makes the temptation of double-dipping these great courses too good to resist!

Open course 2+ years drive by

Pros:

LOTS of openness. Great course for the strong ripper. Big distances. Holes 1-12,, & 18 play on one side of the park entrance lane; 13-17 on the other side. Good for either backhanders or flickers.

Cons:

Length can cause a jam during a tourney waiting for a group to clear out .

Other Thoughts:

Fairly easy to follow the course. Big wide open area. Very well kept. Kudos to the parks maintenance people.
