An old dog, but a good dog 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 21, 2022 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This park is a 9 holer that plays above its station. It is the old king who is beyond his glory days, but still holds his head high, has the admiration of his subjects, and carries the regal dignity of days long past.

This former 18 hole course has been reduced to 9, but the nine holes, with their wooden post tee markers and natural pads, are still getting the job done. The baskets are still manning their post, taking no respite of their duty after decades of service, and though the worse for wear still faithfully catching every putt within their reach.

Seriously though, the fairways are shaped pretty well. There is only one kinda short gimme (at about 220'), the rest are a pretty good throw. With the width of the fairways, I wouldn't call this beginner unfriendly, but even scoring a 3 on most of these holes would be a good day for a beginner.

Cons:

This is a public park, and there is a LOT of trash around, and all that trash produces a smell. It's not always noticeable, but there are definite moments where you want to hurry through.

The course plays near some park amenities, like picnic tables, a pavilion, walking trails, and there is a playground but you don't really have a risk of throwing at it from what I remember.

The equipment is very old, the tee posts have numbers but no distances, and the current pads are natural. These aren't the biggest cons, but it can be confusing with the old asphalt pads still out there.

Other Thoughts:

This course really does still have the old vestiges of its former glory, as one of the oldest courses in town. The old asphalt tees still haunt the current course, but only hold meaning for those who once threw from them. I remember playing on them ten years ago, and my love for this course is no less today, even at half the holes.

It's a fun round, even if it doesn't have the nostalgia factor. But I would recommend it on historical basis alone, the quality of the course is just a pure bonus!

Cons:

Drainage issues

New course. No reason to return. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 27, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

It has baskets, and tee markers. You can find the next hole easily.

Cons:

Short uninteresting holes.

No teepads.

If if's rained in the past week the ground will be mushy and footing poor. The land is a low lying bowl that holds water and makes it swampy.

The hole are all reachable without much challenge.

The baskets are old design Innova that don't catch well. I had numerous spit outs and pole bounces. You have to hit the chains low, and gently.

Other Thoughts:

It's not a destination course.

If you live in the area, are new to the sport and need a place
to learn to throw it'll do. But if you've played for a while it won't draw you back.

New MacG 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 18, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice park golf, gets mowed regularly, nice tee markers and some old single chain Innova disc catchers. It's great to have disc golf back near the city of Houston and the students should love it being next to UofH.

Cons:

Don't leave valuables in your car, expect large BBQ parties on Sundays. Couple of baskets are either too short or too tall. No concrete tees so avoid if heavy rains.

Other Thoughts:

MacG is back!!
