Madman Martin 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 28, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

1) Homegrown creativity at its finest here. Martin has been around the game for a while and he knows what makes for fun and challenging disc golf. The holes are short but still fun. The experience of playing with Martin is fun.

2) You need to have all sorts of shots here including some fun elevator type shots, spike hyzers, big turnovers, ace runs, water shots, etc etc etc . . . bring everything you have got to this course.

3) He has very simple signs next to each tee with Hole # and distance which will be helpful for anyone playing the course without him . . . I suggest playing it with him however to get the full experience of playing his course.

4) Variety is surprisingly pretty good for a small 5 acre parcel. He has a couple longer bomber holes, some real ace runs, water carries, tight fairways, elevator shots over some lower foliage,

5) Beginner friendly because most of the holes are under 200' with a few between 200-300 and only one over 300'. The holes still present some challenge to the beginner and even the avid player despite being on the short end of distance.

Cons:

1) The concrete steppers are not all 100% level with each other and seem to be a bit smaller than the teepads I am accustomed to. The concrete allows all weather play but when they are too small they become almost worse than grass would be.

2) The mixed baskets take some getting used to but they all seemed to catch just fine. He said he is putting every dollar he brings in towards new permanent style baskets which is a good plan but it will be a while until he can replace all of the baskets. I gave him a few bucks for me and my wife to say thanks and hopefully you consider giving him something for allowing you to play his course too.

3) There is a bit of tall grass and prairie that will eat up discs especially on some of the blind shots. I do not recommend playing alone and would definitely recommend playing with Martin since he knows the course.

Other Thoughts:

Don't come here expecting the top notch private amenities that often accompany private course. Just come here with an open mind wanting to have some fun throwing discs. Imagine how much money it would cost him to put in all permanent baskets and tee pads . . . let alone maintain the mowing on this course. Thank him for opening his private land to others then give him a few dollars for his effort and tell your friends to come visit him.

Would I come back to this course? Yes . . . just keep in mind its all about having fun throwing discs and you should enjoy yourself too.
