Pros:

Maple Grove Venues DGC is set on a pretty piece of property in West Salem, which is essentially La Crosse for all practical purposes.

The course has two tee pads per hole. The longs are turf pads of varying sizes but adequate. The shorts are natural. Both tees have wood stakes or orange flags denoting the front corners. These help with locating them. There's generally quite a bit of variance in distance/difficulty between the two as well. Nice that they have short positions on every hole for noodle arms like myself.

The baskets are DD Veterans. These were all in great shape and caught nicely. There's two pin positions per hole which is always appreciated. No complaints with these.

The course plays on what appears to be an old ball golf course that was repurposed into the current setup. Lots of longish holes, but there's trees in play on all of them at least. Lots of options for shot selection on most holes. Quite a few do require a certain line to score though. There's still quite a few shorter holes interspersed here to mix things up a bit.

The course flowed pretty well. Not great, but good enough that you won't get lost. I'd recommend using the Udisc map if possible to make it much simpler.

There's 2 different ponds that come into play on the back nine. The first is a water carry and the second is on the right side of the fairway and shouldn't really come into play if you play the hole safely. It might be a different story if the wind is up though. There's nice undulation to the course in spots too. Most notably the front nine. The back nine is pretty much totally flat.

Nice large parking lot with a practice basket before hole 1. The course is free to play and seemed to be pretty well maintained on our visit.

Cons:

No tee signs is a definite knock on this course at this point. You can see most of the baskets. At least in the positions they were in when we played it. Some distances and especially next tee arrows or directional aids would be really nice though.

The turf pads are just OK. A little lumpy and narrow. Not the greatest things I've played on, but far from the worst either. The short "pads" are almost an afterthought. Natural pads that are going to be a rutted muddy mess in no time with the traffic this course likely sees judging by the day we played it.

More of a grip it and rip it type of course. More a LVC or Emporia country club kind of feel than an Idlewild or W.R Jackson course if you can relate it to the DGPT. If that's your thing you'll love it. It's not my thing so it was a bit of a letdown.

The course seems to be pretty popular regardless of what I think. Probably benefits this course due to it's proximity to the Mississippi river. Pettibone and Goose Island were underwater in early May after snow melt up north and lots of recent rain locally. That said, I bet this is a pretty busy course most of the time. More forgiving, and casual, than the nearby heavy hitters.

The grass was being mowed when we played it. The unmowed parts resembled shag carpet though. It's a huge piece of property to keep maintained immaculately so I get it. The grounds probably play different from week to week, depending on the time of year.

This venue hosts weddings and other events so the course isn't always open for play. Be sure to check Facebook or Udisc for availability.

Other Thoughts:

This is a course that is worth playing. It's not a destination course by any stretch of the imagination, but it's worth your time for a round at least.

Located a few minutes off of I-90 if you find yourself near La Crosse. Definitely much easier to get to and play than Veteran Hills or Justin Trails and it benefits from not being flood prone like Pettibone. That said, I'd much rather play all the others I just mentioned.

With some better pads and signs it's a 3 for me. As it stands currently it's decent. It was a bit of a letdown to be honest, but I prefer wooded golf and this course isn't that. Different strokes and all.
