I mean, it's aight I guess! drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 28, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Decent home made baskets.
- Plenty of distance challenges the bigger arms.
- Free to play in an area where most 18 hole courses are pay to play.

Cons:

- No tee signs. Have to follow UDisc or a course map to know where to go.
- The design is kinda meh. Nothing too exciting.
- There's a few awkwardly long walks between holes.
- Some holes have some...different obstacles...eg. a school, tennis courts, playgrounds.
- There was a basket missing when I played it all 3 times.

Other Thoughts:

All in all this course isn't terrible...The baskets catch okay for being homemade. It's a good course to practice your open distance shots. Not a destination course by any means.

Marshall middle school mystery tour 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 10, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Marshall middle school disc golf course actually plays, not only on the middle school, but on the high school, elementary school and kindergarten grounds too. Also next to a church.

There are 18 baskets here. They are homemade but aren't too bad. They're not great by any means, but I've seen much worse. They're pretty close to your "standard" dimensions. The cages are a bit shallow compared to most newer baskets. Overall though? Better than I was expecting tbh.

There's some solid elevation here, for this part of WI. Nothing crazy or anything, but some undulating terrain throughout to keep things semi interesting.

The course starts and ends by the amply sized parking lot. One of the better attributes of the course. The course was clean and there was a port-a-potty behind hole 16's pin.

The course is permanent (outside of school hours of course) and free to play.

Cons:

Oh man, where to start.

This is one of your typical WI public school courses, but on a grander scale of ineptitube. It's essentially 18 homemade baskets placed sporadically around the lawn areas of 4, that's right 4, neighboring schools.

The flow of the course is downright atrocious. I used the map on Udisc to navigate. Whether that's accurate or not? No idea, but it seemed to make sense. Without that you'd never be able to make sense of this design. I've played over 600 courses and have a decent ability to navigate designs like this. I had a hard time with this one, even using the map.

No signage whatsoever. No tee signs, no next tee arrows or signs. Nothing at all. There are no tee pads or markers either. It's literally the definition of baskets in a field, but reimagined on acid. You'll take a trip here, but it'll be a bad one. Always.

The distances/walks between holes is ridiculous. Playing holes 15 and 16 alone will require, I kid you not, probably a quarter mile walk. To top things off, these play on a sliver of land pinched between 2 different track/football fields and farm fields. Climo or McBeth wouldn't be able to keep it inbounds on this stretch.

Your main obstacles here are fences around various sports fields, parking lots, roads and sidewalks. So if your want to break in a new driver, this might be for you. Very real chance of breaking one of the windows of the four different schools or losing a disc on one of the roofs.

If any other activities are going on, even outside of school hours, holes will have to be skipped. The course plays, almost entirely around different sports fields. So it's a very real possibilty you'll have to skip some holes, which just disjoints the layout even further.

Other Thoughts:

This was one of the poorest designed school courses, or any courses I've played in awhile. There's just not much fun factor here. Me and the wife played this one on a crazy windy afternoon which didn't help me opinion of the course by any means.

That being said, I will not be back here again. It's just such a disjointed, bland, unsafe experience. We had to skip holes 11 and 12 due to baseball practices going on at the time. We skipped 13 as well to save time and get back on route to getting out of there. I saw 13's basket and fairway so I was at least able to visualize the hole. Played the rest.

If you happen to be in this area I wouldn't suggest playing this one. If you want to deal with windy conditions and the potential for lost plastic just head up the road to Bird's Ruins. It's infinitely more fun than here. I've played there 4 or 5 times, and will do so again as much as possible. Not again here though. It was just a bad trip man.

Southern Wisconsin Safari 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 8, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Baskets were all in good shape, probably the best homemade I've ever thrown at. The designer utilized the school district property to create some interesting and fun shots. You will throw up and down hills. Some baskets in possibly dicey locations to create a risk/ reward decision (sitting on a berm, on the hillside, next to parking lot, which could be played as OB).

Cons:

As it stands, this course is really just baskets scattered around the land of an elementary, middle, and high schools. There are no tees to be found (though I did notice a possible 7th tee marker?? but no other holes and it seemed like more of disc golf decoration than an actual tee marker). Because of this, I wound up just picking a random basket in the distance, making up a conceivable teeing area, and played straight safari style. Perhaps this is the intention of the course? Who knows...

Other Thoughts:

If there truly are 18 baskets, about 6 of them remained unseen from my safari adventure. Perhaps you can travel to Marshall and get a glimpse of the elusive 13th-18th baskets, but you may want to hire a tour guide to lead your safari if you haven't explored these parts.

A fun place to throw at baskets, but really just a bunch of practice baskets.

marshall middle school 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 29, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice long course with great homemade baskets. Very grassy course. A few elevation changes too. New baskets put in at the beginning of this 2015.

Cons:

No signs what so ever about where to start or where is the next hole. Need a map in order to play it. No tee pads either. Some holes that are right by the school are a bit too close because there is a chance you could throw on top of the roof and/or hit a car.

Other Thoughts:

Very open course with no signs on where to start or where the next hole is. I had to use a map from this site that was given to me in order to find the next hole. I would not come here until they get some tee pads or at least a sign on each hole. It's a nice beginners course as well. The course would be very nice if they put signs.
