the haunted hill at marshmellow mountain 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 12, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

Even though the winter storms have taken out a good number of trees, the course is still moderately wooded.

Course features lots of elevation changes, the land used well to maximize the 5 baskets, and the course features a great variety of distances for a backyard course.
The fairways on this course are challenging without being frustrating.
I will not do a hole by hole, but to give you a small taste of what it is like: Hole 1 throws downhill just over 200 ft through a moderately wooded hillside. Hole 2 is a narrow uphill shot also over 200 feet. Several shots need a moderately overstable driver, but your trusty straight driver will see more action.
the Course utilizes rocks on the tees to mark the number (ex. tee 4 has 4 rocks)

Cons:

The course gets repetative toward the end. Fallen trees in fairways and on 17's tee pad made the hole unplayable, but this is a temporary issue. Baskets have different amounts of chains so they all catch differently.

Cost is usually a con: $5 a person to play on 18 holes on 5 baskets (owner did not ask for the money, but since we saw it on the forum we paid him to help with course up-keep and for being a great host)

Other Thoughts:

Giant trees creaked and swayed as you play surrounded by their fallen brethren, it's spooky.
The owner was cool and played with us.
It can be worth the money everyonce in awhile to get a break from Bluemont and Mclean.

(Navigation and Tee signs are not taken into account for private courses because you must either have to know the course or be with the owner to play this course)

Contact the owner in advance to play this course since it is on his personal property and you are throwing at his house, which looks like a giant melted marshmallow.
