- Good baskets are in great shape and mostly visible from tees
- A lot of fun shots. Hole # 13 is in my top 5 favorite DG holes
- Good elevation change
- Don't necessarily need a certain shot to avoid obstacles/trees, but is necessary to have your shots finish a certain way to stick the green or avoid skipping over a cliff, etc. Made you think about which shot to throw and decide whether to go for it or not.
- The creek/canyon system plays a big role throughout the course. Almost feel like you are throwing over a river or pond on some holes, with the possibility of getting your disc back.
- A good change-up from the standard park-like DG course
- Good variation in distance with plenty of chances to air it out a little bit.
- Was quite rugged which also gave a good workout while playing. Half the fun was trying to figure out the best way to cross the creek/canyon.
- Found myself putting in a lot of different situations - on a hill, from a bush, low ceiling, combinations of all of those. Really makes you work on your putting game beyond flat, open puts with sure footing.
- Friendly folks. Passed a few very large groups that I would have stuck around and played with if I wasn't on a schedule.
- Nice, flat, big tee-pads

- No signage and map could definitely use some updating as others have noted. Never did find the pad for 16 but just threw from 9 in the opposite direction which seemed to work.
- Distance listed here is inaccurate for several holes
- No benches, facilities.
- A few places with trash but didn't get in the way

Have been in the area for a few months but was scared away by the reviews, but will make it one of the ones I play at regularly under the right conditions. I am probably int/advanced and it was a ton of fun. Played it on a 50 degree day in January which was about perfect conditions as far as I could tell. Threw about 2-3 shots on each hole to try out different angles and didn't end up losing any discs. Had a few go in the creek but was able to retrieve because like a lot of the other courses in the area, there isn't a ton of foliage this time of year so things kind of open up. For sure wouldn't want to play in the heat of day or after a rain.

Anyway, was pleasantly surprised. Going back and forth between 3 and 3.5 for a rating. With good signage, navigation, etc., kind of cleaning things up, could definitely be a 4 star course. I feel like it is worth playing for hole 13 alone.

Great tee-pads all over the course. Pretty easy to navigate the course as well. The baskets are easy to spot, and are in good condition.

Wish there wasn't so much walking in between the holes. It can be difficult to cross different parts of the river at certain places as well.

If you play this course when it is wet outside, you will get very muddy.

This is for the advanced player.

If you arent a more advanced, be prepared to lose discs....or spend a lot of time looking for them if you miss your aimed shot. Use a spotter!

This coarse can be a disc eating machine

No signs or anything to help orientate where you are on the coarse. Remember if you are from out of town playing, I-70 runs east/west...it can be confusing...especially in the desert.

No bathrooms/ and could use a lot of water fountains.

If you have kids in tow...not very kid friendly.

It is a looooooong hike, be prepared.

I WOULD NOT WEAR SANDALS. I would wear closed toed shoes.
Especially if it has been raining....or starts raining.

I was lucky enough to arrange a 'lesson' from one of our local pros and we just happened to meet at Matchett instead of the park where we were originally agreed too.

This older (50+) man knew that coarse inside and out and watching him navigate it was amazing.

After spending hours with me and my wife working on driving, he invited us to play the coarse with him.
Since he knew the coarse, the no signage didn't come into play with me...but, if I were trying to figure it out on my own it would be very confusing.

I expected him to spend an hour with him and he spent the entire afternoon with me and my wife, with 5 year old kid in tow. So, after hour 2 of lessons...he then invited us to play a around with him. After that, plus the coarse...the kid got bored and tired. There is a lot of elevation changes. She can normally handle hiking an 18h coarse, but this one kicked her ass. It is NOT kid friendly.
There are better family friendly 18h coarses' that I would prefer to go to in the Grand Valley just because my kids are almost always with me, rather than play here.

BRING H2O!!! IT IS THE DESERT. IT CAN HURT YOU IN THE SUMMER AND WINTER.
90+ plus is bad enough and in the summer it commonly gets to 110+...under the direct sun it can feel like 130.
In the winter it can get windy and the temp can get below sub-temps. That can dehydrate you just as easy as the hot.


Overall, I think it is a great coarse. However, I believe that this coarse is too advanced for me to play and enjoy. And I had the designer showing me how to do it.

There are plenty of people who can go shoot it all day long. I just know it is too advanced for me at this time.

**On a side note, I live here and I am tired of the desert. There are a lot of coarses around here that you do not have to go directly into the desert that I would rather play at. And if you want to play in the desert and want something really pretty to look at....Moab is 1 ½ hrs away. But, that is biased because I am tired of the desert.

-Interesting terrain, lots of small canyons throughout the course
-Good variety of shots

-Bring a crappy disc you don't mind loosing, and maybe wear shoes you dont mind getting wet.
-Hole one is missing
-Poor use of a lot of land, the layout could have had 27 holes on it
-A lot of walking between holes

Good course, it just has alot of walking in between holes, be ready for a hike.

This course is a great test for EXPERT/Advanced disc golfers. There are HUGE risks on a lot of holes. The punishment for a bad drive can be strenuous, and costly in strokes. This is a great course to throw grenades! You can be in one revine and the basket in another and you have to get your disc down to the basket!!!

Walking around on this course is very difficult The ups and downs between the holes or retreiving errant throws can be scary. I played this course the day after a rain and there was water flowing on the normal paths, so we had to detour a lot. I was EXTREMELY glad I was playing with locals to help me around.

I was pretty paranoid about my footing and loosing my discs, that I didn't watch the sky good enough. When starting there were storm clouds off in the distance but they didn't seem a threat. On hole 11 about the farthest away from the parking lot, we got hit by a huge Hail storm. This made an EXTREMELY tough muddy, shoe killing long walk out. Keep an eye on the weather here! I fixed the Latitude and Longitude on this site so you won't have as much trouble finding this course as I did.

This course does pretty well for itself without many trees. It has elevation, cliffs, brush, and water hazards. The cliffs and hills are much deeper than they appear at first glance. When I played the water was clear so disc retrieval was very simple. The views are amazing, Grand Junction offers a rare chance to see desert landscape within the borders of Colorado. The course is pretty unique. I have not played many courses like this one. I didn't see the drinking fountain but I think its great and necessary that they have one in the middle of the course. There are large paved tee boxes. One design characteristic that I liked was that it loops so you can decide to skip the last few holes if you desired.

When I played in August it was very hot. My playing partner kept throwing in the rough, which is much more extreme than it appears at first glance. A few of the holes were wide open and boring. It was dry when I played but I imagine that when the course is wet it can be very muddy. The first few and last holes play in or near an area that is separate from the main course by a lot fence, it was pretty confusing. There were no signs to help with navigation issues so be sure to bring a map. Even with a map we were lost a few times.

I'd take this unforgiving and rough terrain over a park course. Bring water, when I finished my car's thermometer read 110, it got pretty hot as it sat there without shade. I was tore up in the end from the combination of oppressive heat, distance, and cliff scaling. Probably due to the heat, I had the course all to myself. I would recommend this course to players who are down for an adventure. In that sense, I really enjoyed this course.

the one and only time i played it was when the ground was wet. i felt like frankenstein in those huge clompy boots, at least three pounds per foot of extra mud to carry. i was playing with some locals though and was able to navigate the course fairly easily. otherwise it would be tough to get around. A long course with risk/reward shots throughout most of it. I liked the design, and if it was dryer when i played it would have been a much better experience. at least three hours to play the course, not a lot of elevation changes but lots of little hills and dales, with a small creek on some of the holes to deal with. not much vegetation on the course so watch out for long skips on your drives. If there were teesigns i would give it a 3.5

A long fun course. I have heard it said it's like playing on the moon....I dont know about that but it is a challenging course. Alot of elevation shots over creek beds and small valleys.

No signs, no maps. Hard tp play with out someone who knows the hole locations.
Cant play on rain days or the day after, because of the mud. No restrooms.

If you can get out to this course early in the morning and with someone who knows the layout, this course provides a good challenge. Long holes through and over valleys.
