Fun little round... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 9, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Plenty of obstacles with "risky" basket placements make this a fun little course. The open holes are in a well established park with nicely mowed short grass and plenty of large trees. The baskets are near the road, on a hill or very close to a small creek... requiring accurate approaches/drives.

The wooded part (holes 2 - 6) require accurate shots or your score will rise quickly.

Very good DGA baskets... brand new!

Cons:

The course is a little short (it had to be because there just isn't that much land left in the park). It's quite a bit easier than the course across I-20 (Cherokee Trail).

The tee pads are natural, but this really isn't that big of a deal in this part of the country... but concrete pads would be nicer... of course.

Other Thoughts:

It was nice to play a new course, but this is a "tough for a beginner" course. The risky pin placements make it interesting for experienced players, but if you can control your drives and approaches, you can easily par every hole (or birdie them - there are four holes that I "should" birdie... and I usually shoot par to +4 on most courses). It was just a little too easy for my taste... I much prefer the older course across the highway (that is a quick walk to using the jogging path under the bridge).

New players, women and the less adventurous would probably like this course better because it doesn't have the cactus, mesquites, honey locusts, snakes, spiders, lizards and prairie dogs like the older course (which obviously has more character) does.

Since this course offers nothing that Cherokee Trail doesn't have, and lacks a lot of what it does have... I probably won't play this one much.
