Pros:
The disc golf course at MCTI (Michigan Career and Technical Institute) is what I call a Bag and Go Course. That's a private course where you may or may not be welcome so one eye is always on the look out for security. Using stealth, camouflage and the cover of darkness, you walk on to the course as unobtrusively as possible, play it quickly and quietly and then get the heck outta Dodge with another course bagged.
MCTI sits beside beautiful Pine Lake. Parts of course play alongside of the lake but it never really comes into play. As we drove unto the campus late on a Saturday night, we didn't see a soul. We drove around the school's building on the lake side and finally spotted some baskets. There are carved wooden tee signs. I found them difficult to read but my playing partner could make out the needed information. We found # 1 throwing in the lake's direction. # 2 plays along the lake. 3 and 4 play back and forth in this same wooded area. Then 5 and 6 play across the street in that wooded area. # 7 then plays along the lake and then you walk past the maintenance shed and the ball fields to play #'s 8 and 9 in those woods.
The course is a recreational course with four holes playing between 200' and 254'. The other five all play under 200'.
Cons:
Nothing serious in the Cons department. There really aren't any tee pads, just throw from beside the baskets. The baskets are Mach II's and they're fine for this course. The carved signs have faded. They were probably nice when installed. Course is an easy recreational level. Won't challenge many regular disc golfers but probably is ideal for the students here.
Other Thoughts:
It's probably not a course many players will get to. With the school's non-welcoming attitude, most disc golfers will pass it by. That's fine, it's just a little rec course, certainly not any kind of destination course or anything. But I guess it's a must get for the serious course bagger.
