Meade Olin is a nice, rolling, community park that has plenty of space for 18 light to moderately wooded holes of disc golf that won't interact too much with other activities. It boasts level, concrete, landscaped tees (needed because there really isn't any part of the park level enough for a truly flat tee area), very good signage (check the next hole indicators before you leave, or see the schematic map I added here), and a small bench and trash bucket at every tee. Mach III baskets catch just fine and show up decently once you know where to look.

You have an opportunity here to really enjoy watching the flight of a disc soaring out over a number of valleys and downhills, without feeling like you have to 'pay the price' with a corresponding number of uphill holes (my kind of course!). Half the holes are under 300 feet, and a handful range from 360 to 460 feet (you can opt for a real challenge going for the 569' basket on 15, if you like). Mostly, it's a true 'par three' course for Intermediate level players that can appeal to less massive arms because of the eleven times you get to start off down a slope. The initial part of every hole seems open enough, but you'll still want to consider your shot placement to get the best upshot or putt through the park trees.

In all, Meade Olin plays like a longer version of the Radcliff course nearby, so if you like that one, you might love this. There are some good options nearby (Otter Creek or Muldraugh if you like shorter or more technical, for instance), and you're not too far from some competition worthy courses north (Buffalo Trace & Seviren Lang), east (Charlie Vettiner) or south (Freeman Lake), so the area is really becoming a nice attraction for course baggers like me.

Though they seem to be starting to add options (there are two baskets on 15 and possibly alternate sleeves on a couple others), Meade Olin is otherwise limited as far as alternate tees and basket positions. Careful throwing hole 14 if anyone is parked in the little gravel lot just beside the basket. They did 'mando' 13 for a similar reason, but I didn't see a mando on 14.

The biggest con is likely the fact that the gravelly clay soil here lends itself to eroding badly when wet, so you wind up with mud sliding down to cover the 5th tee, and the pooling pond areas on holes like 2 & 7 can mean a real mess if you kick in there. The water won't be deep, but it'll be enough.

Drive to the very back shelter in the park to find hole 1. You are back at that shelter after 10, 12 & 18, so it's clearly the place to be.

Nice changes in elevation. Very little roughage; although plenty of large, mature tree's and a couple of water hazards to test your technical skills. Great course for beginner's; and pro's can get some low scores if on their 'game'.

This course is located just off of the Ohio river in a very scenic area of Kentucky that overlooks Indiana; however, like most scenic places, it's not the easiest place to reach. Having so stated, Brandenburg is a nice small town that does have the typical amenities of small town America.

Due to the playability of this course, tournaments here are very competitive as most well placed drives can give birdie opportunities for even those without cannon arms.

This course has a nice mix of short and long holes, a wide variety of difficulty from hole to hole, and lots of elevation changes. There is OB in the form of roads that come into play on about a third of holes and a small body of water that comes into play on holes 2 and 7. There isn't much rough on the course, only large mature trees, so that keeps the round moving fairly quickly. The course is good for beginners since there is little rough and few places to lose a disc.

Some of the low lying areas on the course will collect water after a big rain. These pools of water can get quite large depending on the amount of rain and become an interesting obstacle.

A number of the tee signs are missing making the course a bit difficult to navigate at times. I'm sure this issue will be addressed in time.

As other people have mentioned, this park was ravaged in Feb 2008 when a tornado went through the park. The hurricane that summer and ice storm in winter 2009 only compounded the problem. Many, many trees were lost.

The parks department and locals did a great job of cleaning up the course. It is most definitely in playable condition now but they're not done yet. Since so many trees are gone, they're working on alternate tee pads and pin positions for some of the holes to make them more challenging. I'm sure that information will be updated here once those changes are complete. Keep up the great work!

this course has nice long fairways that are lightly wooded, great use of the elevation changes some shots feel like you're staring down at the hole. all baskets are in great shape, except the mia hole 13 that is soon to change tho. the park is in the processes of rebuilding the course and appears to be doing a great job on that, trees are being cleared off of the fairways and by the middle of summer this should be a great relaxing course.

with out a gps this course would be hard to find,
the obvious missing basket and downed trees but that's all soon to change. some holes could be a bit more challenging. more than a few holes are missing the signs.

A little background for those who may not be familiar with this area, a terrible storm (tornado) came through the park and a major ice storm earlier this year (2009), causing tremendous damage to the local area and surrounding areas including the park and the disc golf course.

*UPDATE: The rebuild is well underway, and a lot of progress has been made. Thank you to everyone who has helped to restore the course to a playable state, and for the clean-up efforts at the park.

With that in mind, here is my review.
Meade Olin is once again one of the top courses in the area. There are concrete tee pads that are in good shape, some tee signs, and Mach 3 baskets that are in good condition. There are a few new baskets on the course as well. The course flows well from hole to hole, but if you are new to the course, you will have trouble navigating the layout. The course does loop back to the parking area for hole No1 after hole 10, so in a sense it is two loops, 1-10, and 11-18. There is little to no underbrush throughout the course, and well defined fairways on most all holes. There are a few benches on the course, andplenty of trash receptacles.

There are slight to moderate elevations on all holes, and the elevations are optimized to provide all varieties of uphill, downhill, and side hill lies. There is a nice variety in hole length throughout the course, from a few ace runs, to a lot of really nice par 3's for a par54 total There are no wide open holes, and no true technical holes. This course makes great use of the large and mature deciduous trees which come into play on every hole. With this course, each hole offers a variety of shots, which is a nice feature. It is like there are multiple fairways defined for each hole, which caters to the wide variety of playing styles and preferences between rec players, am's, and pros.

Overall, the course is challenging in a very fair manner, and can be enjoyed by all skill levels.

There are some tee signs on the course that accurately represent each hole where they are located, but several of the holes do not have signs at all. I've played there enough to know my way around the layout, but if you are playing here for the first time, navigation will be challenging and frustrating. There should definitely be some sort of navigation system in place and provide a more clear definition of the course layout.

There are some low areas on the course that are very sloppy and retain water, keep this in mind if playing after a big rain, mostly the bottom of hole1 and 11/12.

The last issue of concern is the tee pads. The pads are appropriately sized and in good shape, but a handful of the tees are unlevel, and due to some of the elevation changes, there are several tee pads that drop anywhere from 1-3ft off of the front edge. I know for me, the thought of falling off of the end of some of these tees linger in my mind as I am throwing of the box.

This is definitely one of my favorite courses in this area. The clean up efforts have been tremendous, and the course once again has a full 18 playable holes. A lot of trees were lost from both the tornado and the ice storm, so several of the holes have been opened up from the original layout. Some alternate tee/pin positions have been identified, and will be installed in the next few months. I was able to see the new tee/pin positions, and they will certainly increase the difficulty by adding length and more protected pins. There is still some clean-up going on, but hopefully the course will be 100% very soon. This course is well on it's way to a 4 disc rating!

This is the first course that ever humbled me, and it's been among my favorites ever since. Nice use of elevation, with just the right amount of trees to throw around.

As has been noted, it was substantially damaged by a tornado in early 2008.

This course has the POTENTIAL to be a 4+ course.

As of right now, 9/3/08, I'd give it more like a 2.5 rating. Hopefully it can come back better than ever.

***UPDATE 08/22/09*** I just played it for the first time since I wrote this review, and there has been lots of work done since last year. Still plenty left to do...but as of right now I'd rate this course a 3.5.

There are GREAT looking signs on every hole...but not your typical teepad topographical-map type signs...these are cut/carved/painted LOG signs that are tacked onto trees nearby each teepad! Very unique and also very functional.

Many holes play much easier than they used to due to the trees that were lost from the tornado.

Could be looking at erosion problems in the future if some large scale re-seeding isn't done soon.

Was a great course before the destruction left behind by the recent tornados.
