Pros:

Awesome owners!!! With great merch and food pro shop. I would 10/10 recommend eating there and meeting the owners. The course itself fantastic. You can tell why Simon loves this place.
Lot of natural beauty in and around the orchards with Great mix of hole length, variety, wooded and open holes
Super well defined ob lines I can't talk enough about this place. First few holes in the open then in the woods then back to open. Tough but very fair lines. Short and long baskets and tee pads. This place legit has it all. Tractor with a basket on it to finish out the round

Cons:

I guess just missing those super iconic shots, and those signature holes but everything out there is great 1-18

Other Thoughts:

Destination course for sure. Would be a 5 star if it just had that iconic shot, and feelings. Not many places do but would stop here and play everyday great course

Is the Cider worth the Squeeze?

Pros:

Wonderfully manicured new course in a lovely location with all the bells and whistles. Great teepads, brooms, benches, two layouts, clear signage, whiskered C1, a delicious restaurant on property, kind people.

Par 60 with six par 4s from the longs runs 7000'. Mix of wide-open bomber holes and wooded lines. The course is basically three sections, holes 1 and 2 are wide open, 3-11 and through the woods, and 12-18 are back in the open. The par 4s feel a bit soft but the par 3s are tough and on windy days I think the course gets hard quick.

The open holes all have some OB to increase difficulty and protect the apple orchards, and the back set of holes dealt with elevation in a nice way. The whole course is set up on a hill with great views everywhere and on a windy day the difficulty ratchets up.

The wooded holes have narrow but I think well-defined and fair fairways, with difficult but not impossible scramble opportunities (at least in November after the leaves are down.)

There's a restaurant onsite that serves breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

Cons:

This is a fine course that checks a lot of boxes but leaves me wanting more. All of the holes feel pretty straightforward to me and I rarely had to think too hard about my shot. It only took me an hour to play 18 from the longs, usually throwing a couple different shots off the tee.

The course is laid out in a very efficient manner as I rarely had to walk far from one tee pad to the next but there seems to be more property around that could have perhaps been used more creatively. You play two holes to get into the woods, then you play eight holes back and forth across this narrow strip of woods between two fields, then you come out of the woods and play back to the parking. I wonder if taking more time could have revealed some more creative holes.

The orchards themselves are all wrapped in OB, so the open holes are pretty much just open as long as you stay clear of the OB.

$8 during the week and $12 on the weekends which IMO is a little high for where the course is now.

Other Thoughts:

I had a nice time here but I wouldn't say I had a very magical experience, which I think is what I'm looking for with an $8 fee. I think my rating could be almost 3.75 and if it was free I'd think about giving it a 4.

It's a shame because I think property available could lend itself to a better course than is currently in there. I wish instead of investing all the money in the infrastructure they had left things temporary for another year or so and experimented a bit more before putting things so solidly into the ground.

For example: The course is in three discrete chunks, but you could easily redesign the holes so that you're flowing back and forth between woods and open fields, sometimes throwing out of a gap up a hill, other times needing to bomb to a landing zone in order to pitch through the trees (ala Maple Hole 1 or Fox Run Hole 11). I assume the demands of the orchard itself forced the design into a pretty straightforward layout but still, why couldn't hole 3 be a par 4 starting near hole 2's tee box? Why couldn't hole 9 be a par 5 that finishes up hill in the open?

With its proximity to Leicester it's easy to compare it to the farm at Maple Hill but really a better comparison are the Smugglers Notch courses in VT. Meadowbrook feels like a blend of the open wind-swept OB holes at Fox Run and the tricky-footed wooded holes of Brewster's.

I played 501 for the first time the same day and the feeling couldn't be more different. 501 transports you into the local environment and the at times lengthy walk to each tepid is well worth the time because playing each hole was like unwrapping a different surprising present.

Meadowbrook felt like sneaking down to the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve and shaking each package and right away you know the first one is a sweater, the second is a lego set, and the third is a book. You may be glad to get all three but it's not a Christmas you'll remember.

Meadowbrook Orchards

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 8, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

My Three Pros:

- Wow factor. The course is set on a beautiful property with several nice touches to really put many holes over the top. The apple orchards on the first and last holes are very scenic to play through, the raised and hanging baskets were very nicely constructed, the onsite restaurant and fruit picking are an added bonus. Several uphill holes, big downhill holes and massive open but challenging bomber holes at the end. Overall, the course seemed to have allot of thought put in and was a great experience.

-Amenities. The teepads were all very nice paver types and built up level with nice platforms, each hole had nice tee signs of the hole with descriptive map and distances, holes seemed to have reasonable pars with few a few par 4's sprinkled about, seats were provide at many holes, brooms provided at many holes, short teepads or baskets provided at many holes, Hole 18 ends right at hole 1 to make a nice loop, the discgolfpark baskets always point the way to next hole sand a few well placed next tee signs made navigation was a breeze without a map needed, OB stakes were neatly placed along the OB lines clearly delineating the OB area in a clean manner, the grassy fairways had extra mowing along the designated walking routes.

-Course Design. I loved allot of these holes and even though my game was off the round was incredibly fun. The wooded holes have fair lines that may require a few rounds to get dialed in. The open holes have good use of OB and elevated baskets to keep the open holes engaging. There were steep uphill holes, steep downhill holes, shots turning both ways and many dead straight tunnel holes. The first two open holes get you warmed up for the more challenging wooded holes. Then the last few open holes let you really let loose to close out the round.

Cons:

My three cons:

-Trash Cans. I didnt see any on the course so you have to carry your trash. Not a big deal. I didnt see any trash on the course.

-No water. The ponds on the apple orchards are so beautiful - it would be great to see them in the course somehow, but they are way outside the loop so not good for overall flow.

-Not for beginners. The long tees were a decent challenge and the short tees didnt seem much easier. Beginners might want to avoid this one for now.

Other Thoughts:

This is only the 4th time I've felt a course was truly 5 star (the other 3 being Maple hill, Selah Lakeside and Harmony Bends). This course is absolutely in the same echelon as those great destinations. I had the fortune to play in peak autumn leaf color changing and the course was incredibly beautiful, exceptionally well taken care of, and absolutely fun to play. I was traveling and played on a bagging mission with my lady in tow and she had a blast taking photos and picking apples. I alos saw folks fishing in the ponds near the orchards. The restaurant was old timey and cozy good vibes making for an All-around good experience (they serve breakfast and lunch but no beers) . I cant think of much the course could possibly add to make it better and I am happy to be the first to give it a well deserved high five.

Great new course! drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 26, 2022 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Hey cool I get the first review!

Meadowbrook Orchards is in very advanced condition for a course that's been permanently open for just a few weeks. The hole designs need no revision. Most of the tee pads are pavers. The baskets are legit. The tee signs are all present and have lovely custom graphics depicting the layout of the entire hole. There's a next-tee arrow inside of every basket. If this is the new standard for the state of courses when they open, we are in for a very good time as disc golfers! I'm so used to courses opening with less than 18 holes, holes that need to be redesigned, no signage, no tee pads etc. etc. It can take years to get all of that squared away especially at public courses. But on private property where someone has the dedication and the resources... wow things can get done fast!

The overall design is excellent. The holes are almost always linear, one leading to the next. Holes never interfere with each other and never even abut each other except for 14/15 and 17/18 just a little bit. The course is super safe to play. I guess this could make for a somewhat boring tournament or league night since you'll never see anyone not on your card except maybe the card in front of you or behind you if you catch them, but whatever. For casual play it's ideal!

This is a monster course. Noodle arms need not apply. At 7,000 feet it's the same size as Wickham Park longs and just a little less than Maple Hill Blue's 7,300 feet. There's no water or other mandatory carries, but if you can't throw 250 feet it's going to be a long round. There are also some long 300-600 foot walks between holes. Not all of them, but several. Especially at the end... hole 17 is long, the walk to 18 is long, hole 18 is long, and the walk back to the car is long. I can't think of any other course where you have so much ground still to cover from the 17th tee. You better bring some energy! I like the workout so I consider this a pro, but if you're not into physically demanding courses I guess you might consider this a con.

Hole 14 is a legit signature hole. Downhill shot with a big valley view behind it. As soon as you turn the corner and it comes into view, it's a showstopper. Hole 18 is also back from the temporary course that was here in the fall and it's also quite scenic especially in the fall. Another standout hole to me is 9, which is a long, narrow, wooded, twisting, uphill par 4 bruiser. I 4'd it but it took my three best shots to get to the circle. A birdie would be phenomenal for anyone. Another fun one is 6 with two completely different lines through the woods; a completely straight but very narrow shot, or the much longer but wider sweeping RHBH line. They even made the tee pad V-shaped so you have a full box for either shot. Nice touch!

With half the holes being open air bombs, the overall amount of open air disc golf is much more than we are used to here in New England. It's refreshing to have this much opportunity to air it out in one round and not have to thread a tree line for 18 straight holes. The wooded holes also have more space than most around here.

Most astray drives are easy to find. I don't think there are any spots on any holes where if you go off course it's "oh yeah that disc is gone." There are a couple of holes where the rough is tough to search, but overall it's really not bad.

The onsite cafe/farmstand makes very good sandwiches so you won't have to go anywhere for that post-round grub!

Cons:

The course is not too beginner-friendly due to the length and elevation changes. There's one layout and it's called Blue appropriately. There's definitely an opportunity to get some shorter red or white tees going here eventually. For now, probably take the newbs somewhere else.

The rest are really just nitpicks; they're not any reason to not come or anything:

Holes 5, 7, and 8 are pretty much exactly the same.

There's a lot of OB marked off by stakes but no rope or line. If you're taking things seriously, it can be hard to tell if your disc is on the invisible line between two stakes. If you're playing casually this really doesn't matter, just make a call and move on. For a tournament they might want to rope off all the OB but this would require literally miles of rope. Anyways like I said, nitpicks.

The cafe does not serve beer and it's not clear if it's okay to drink your own on the premises. If they ever did offer beer onsite this would be a grand slam for all disc golfers who enjoy a post-round beer.

Other Thoughts:

The most similar course in the area is definitely Wickham Park because of the distance of the course, the distance between holes, the unusual amount of open air holes, the relative openness of the wooded holes, and the signature downhill-with-a-view holes. You'll feel like you got a workout in when you're done!

If you played the temporary course here last fall, the three wooded holes are all back as are 17 and 18. The rest, I think, are all new and now you don't play through any of the areas where people pick their own fruit nor do you play over the pond, so it's a lot safer!

I can't believe what a great addition this course already is to the Massachusetts disc golf course inventory. Load up and get ready to crush!
