Short & Open 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 30, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

Short open course

Cons:

Location is sketchy and the pavilion has a possible homeless person living there.

Other Thoughts:

The course may be hard to find due to being tucked away behind a large brick building. The little road to the course is full of trash. I'll be honest this course shouldn't be on anyone's bucket list.

Going Down Swinging, Throwing And Kicking 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 25, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.614 Rating)A very open bomber's course that also has holes for ball golf and foot golf.
- BOMBERS - As a noodle arm Intermediate, I finished +1. The Challenge here is entirely distance off the tee. Several 400 foot plus par 3s. Players that enjoy bombing shots all day long may actually like this place. Woods players will need 4 shots of adrenaline, a blood transfusion and an atomic fireball to prevent a death by boredom.
- SIGNAGE AND NAVIGATION - Excellent tee signs. HB Clark should hire the graphics person who did these and incorporate that talent into his well-constructed signage framework. In addition to the tee signs, there was a free scorecard with map in the mailbox at the community board on my play. It was an absolute breeze following this course. Very cart friendly too.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - Too long perhaps for beginners but the openness will encourage length development. The layout is mostly forgiving and it will be very hard to lose a disc. The course is probably perfect for night golf too if the park is open.
- QUICK PLAY - I had the course wrapped up in 29 minutes and I photographed the entire layout. Figure less than an hour for a four sum.
- MAINTENANCE - Completely mowed and no large downed branches observed on my play.
- FOOT GOLF AND BALL GOLF - I did not add any score for this, but Midtown includes a 9 hole pitch and putt ball golf course and also a 9 hole foot golf course. This aspect would make it particularly easy to introduce someone to disc golf if they are a golfer or a soccer player. Play a nine hole loop of disc golf and then follow it up with ball golf or foot golf or both.
- CHAINS - Adequate Chainstar baskets. The basket on (7) was leaning.

Cons:

A shocking lack of complexity.
- LACK OF TECHNICAL CHALLENGE - As noted above, there is a lot of length to this course. However, there is almost no technical challenge. Extremely wide open fairways with at most only one or two trees on each hole to game plan around. Hole (4) has no trees in play. Wind could add to the challenge on blustery days.
- TEES - They are really bad. They are dirt with significant lumps. The tee sign on (1) has the possibility of being hit by a hand on the release.
- HOLE VARIETY - Miserable. There are individual holes at Idlewild with more variation than this entire course. Most of the holes can be attached from every angle. All of the holes are lightly wooded to open and the distance fluctuation is minimal. There is a little bit of elevation change, but it's all gradual and it doesn't really impact how any of the baskets are attacked.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - Without question, Midtown rates into my bottom quartile for beauty. The best aspect is the mowing and general maintenance of the grounds. However, the blandness of the landscape is very obvious.
- SPACING - There are no buffers between holes. My disc landed in another fairway three times cause I was trying to dislocate my shoulder on my tee shots in hopes of driving it 100 feet beyond my typical max. I actually got less distance than normal. In addition, the layout is shared with ball golf and foot golf. On a full course day, I imagine that it's similar to the event "Assault" from American gladiators. This was the game where contenders had to dodge an assortment of projectiles fired from roided-up cast members with names like Nitro, Crush and Cyclone.

Other Thoughts:

No need for destination course pilgrims to check out Midtown. It's a slightly below average 9er at best. Midtown will work just fine however for locals, especially for those that are newer to the game or for those that are looking to practice their distance game. For course baggers passing through, I would recommend trying to pick up nearby Doctor's Park and Calvert City before trying to add this one to the rolls.

Another warm up course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 28, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Nice Prodigy Baskets
- Different length tees for pro and am
- Simple beginner friendly open course, great if you are learning how to drive for the first time, or to practice specific shots in a repetitive manor
- They have a mailbox near hole one with course maps, small pencils, and score cards
- Clear and cut out of bounds, train tracks, fences, tree line
- Parking located right at the beginning of Hole 1 and end of Hole 9
- Pavilion near the beginning to chill at if you need to, I believe there is a porta potty next to it too
- Signage at every single hole, looks nice and is helpful navigating the course
- Hole number 7's basket on a mound is rather cool

Cons:

- Tee boxes are not ideal, let me explain, they are wooden landscape timbers staking off the the rectangle of the tees location, they are aging and beginning to rot away
- The park is cluttered with the three types of golf they provide, and it is kind of confusing
- The course flows, and then it get's really confusing in spots, just refer to the map and it won't be horrible
- It is a little tough to make par on current holes, like going uphill 500 feet with three par (Hole 5) is tough
- Course is rather bland, minus elevation and a few trees, with the wind that blew the day I played, this course could be mistaken to be Kansas
- This course is in a rough part of town, the guide that took me there said to not play there after 6PM
- The course has tall fencing on the northeast and eastern side of the course blocking off an old school, if your disc goes over, count it as lost
- Placement of course in town is not super hard to get to, but it also is not something someone from out of town would be likely to show up at
- Little cramped, not a huge problem, but I would not want to drive near someone one hole over or head on, just in case
- Not anything super fun for a moderate to pro player, only feels right to use it as a warm up or training field for newbies

Other Thoughts:

- Great warm up or practice location, especially if you were wanting to practice doing repetitive shot from a specific location, due to it's unpopularity, no one would get in the way.
- If you are looking for real challenging Disc Golf, head to Stuart Nelson Park or Fort Massac across the river, because the only competition here is who can out drive who

Open 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 6, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice baskets
Great signs
Multiple tee areas
Great idea of having a disc golf course permanently installed next to a ball golf course.
Very clean and well cut grass.

Cons:

Repetitive
Straight shot, next hole, another straight shot, either up the hill or down the hill.

Other Thoughts:

Having played at some very sketchy courses, I was nervous playing this course. I felt a need to keep looking at my car to make sure it was ok.

You can tell someone puts time into this facility - kudos. It was significantly cleaner than most urban courses.

Could be a good course to learn to drive and have multiple practice baskets. It would get old / tiring very quickly.

While this is on a ball golf course, you wouldn't know it. The ball golf greens was normal grass and the ball holes were hard to find. For both a ball golf and disc golf, this is more of a fancy training field - which hopefully gets used. If the purpose is to get people, especially kids, playing - great!

Very Minimal 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 29, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Being from out of state and taking 2 hours to get here, I will try my best to present a "non-local" perspective.
The positives are:
1. Since the Boys and Girls Club share the small parking lot to this "park", it offers those kids an opportunity to be exposed to Disc Golf in a VERY basic and minimalistic way.
2. It is a good location for locals to come and practice their basic game.
3. Basic Tee signs at each Blue Tee.

Cons:

The Cons are:
1. Difficult to find for out of towners. I used the address given in my GPS and it took me 6 blocks away. I stopped three times to ask for directions and no one could tell me where it was. We drove around for ½ hour to find it and when we pulled up all three of us said the same thing, not good.
2. Seeing that the course is so minimalistic, it may appear to be too boring to those exploring the sport.
3. The current course layout does not match the map provided.
4. Contrary to other reviewer, it has grass Tee pads, NOT concrete.
5. Grass was tall with ticks.
6. Some of the out of bounds areas do not allow you to retrieve your discs.
7. The holes are laid out in a tight pattern so you have to be very mindful of others playing near you.
8. This is also a BALL Golf Practice course with both the Ball and Disc elements utilizing the same Tee pads and fairways. If someone is there with Golf Balls-look out!
9. The park is tucked away in an area we didn't feel comfortable in.
10. No real shade on the course for sunny hot weather. No bathrooms, water, or trash cans.

Other Thoughts:

I really don't mean to sound like I'm bashing this "course", but if you are from out of town; I would not recommend spending the effort on this location. Again, I see it as a practice field for locals.
Paducah does have another course in Stuart Nelson Park that is really well done (unless it's wet). I would definitely say it is worth your time. We really enjoyed it.

I only gave this a 1.5 rating due to it having some sort of Tee signage; I think it should be lower.
