I Crapped Out On The Miller Park Lucky 13 Disc Golf Course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 12, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Lucky 13 Disc Golf Course starts with hole # 1 between the street and the large water slide of the Republic Aquatic Club. Side note, this water park looks awesome and would probably be the better choice on a nice summer day. There is a small course map here. The tee signs are big, bright and altogether wonderful although some are worn and hard to read. Also, the tee signs are facing you as you walk up to them but don't necessarily face the basket you're throwing to. Sometimes this is good like on hole # 3. Other times, it's confusing like on hole # 2. Just be aware of this. The natural pads are worn and not so good. The DGA baskets have the always hard to read red numbers.

The park is large with scattered trees. I found this course similar to playing all the disc golf courses that are being incorporated onto ball golf courses. They're a lot too open for my tastes. I gotta agree with previous reviewer, "Donavon." He said there wasn't one hole where he was excited to throw his second shot and that's exactly what I was feeling. In fact, part way through the back nine, that is what I ended up doing. Teeing off and then picking up my drive and moving on to the next hole. There was no thrill in a boring open approach shot followed by a putt. No shaping and very few obstacles to excite.

Cons:

Mostly open holes.

Holes all seem to be similar, 300' to 500' open throws. Gets very monotonous.

Awesome tee signs are faded and sometimes not facing the baskets. Can be confusing.

Boxed in natural tee pads are OK but not the best option.

I just wasn't thrilled with the overall course layout.

Other Thoughts:

I would call this course field practice with a basket at the end. 2.0.

Tis better to have played and lost than never to have played at all

Lucky For Who? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 15, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a simple layout that is easy to navigate. This is a wide-open straight shot kind of course. There is one hole that you have to go around a big tree near the basket and one that has some OB sort of near the basket, but otherwise it is fairly straight shots. They do make good use of the slight elevation that is available. The course does have some par 4's and 3's, even if the 4's are a bit short. They are mowing here rather regularly so it seems to be well maintained. The baskets are in great shape.

Cons:

The tee pads are wooded frames laid in the ground. Dirt ruts are included along with the end of the pad being a tripping hazard. Finding #1 tee is no treat. It is located between the road and the tallest water slide. The locals I spoke too usually start on hole 11 and go from there since it is very close to a parking area. It might have just been the way it felt that day, but it did seem as though almost every hole was about 300 feet except maybe 2 of them. #1 tee and #18 basket are not that close to the parking area. There were no trashcans along the course. There is no bathroom on the course itself, although when the pool is open, I am guessing you can use that one.

Other Thoughts:

The Fun Factor was not really my cup of tea. There is nothing wrong with this course; I just found it kind of boring. I don't think there was one hole that I wanted to throw a second tee shot on. It is a clean and nice place to play, but I doubt I would make a return to play it again. 13 may be lucky for some, but I found it just OK.
