So much potential not being utilized

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 11, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a decent recreational course for the area players.

A couple directional signs showing the player of which direction to the next tee. As the player has to cross the park road to hole # 3.

Hole 7 is the courses best hole. It plays downhill and to the right, 321 feet. Some trouble can be found as I found it, but I wasn't using the small tee boxes and I slipped on my drive on wet grass on the downward sloped hill. Still a fun hole!

hole 3 was another cranker hole. Plays longer than 300 feet as it plays over a hillside. With the basket near the woods.

Cons:

Only 3 holes over 250 feet. and 4 holes under 200 feet.

So much potential at this park that isn't being utilized.

Tee pads we're very small, they had a wooden frame with medium gravel inset in the tee box. One had to either step over the tee box to tee off or just tee off within the small tee box or tee off in the grass near the tee box, which I did.

Generic tee signs (useful nevertheless) and the tee signs we're inside the small tee box, making it even more difficult to tee from.

Long drive from within the park to get to the very short course.

Hole 1 is a decent hole, it's very open, 247 feet, but I betcha some of the one-disc players game is delayed or ends on this hole if they overshoot the basket, and it goes into the thick woods.

The rough is very thick on holes 1,2,7, and 8. Keep it in the fairways and you'll be fine.

Lost and found box is a small milk crate.

smallish parking lot, even for the nearby observatory that's up the large hill by hole # 3, and # 7 and # 6's basket.

Other Thoughts:

So much potential at this park to make it a must play. Perhaps the park department doesn't want to mow a lot and gave the Disc Golf club just the land that they used. But given the space that I saw driving all the way to the course. A new design would be welcome, even for the rec players.

I lost one of my pink star lite sidewinders on Hole # 7. It was found the next day when someone was looking for their disc (which they said they didn't find). A kind person called my phone number listed on the disc. I told her to keep it, as it was a good disc for her.

The Directional arrows on Park signs was very helpful.

Park has a red colored covered bridge that one has to drive through to get the course.

A great place for families to learn the game 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 17, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

+ Plumbed facilities nearby
+ Pavilions nearby
+ Great walking/hiking/biking trail all around
+ Easy to navigate (good signs, including on the road to get there)
+ Picnic tables
+ Lots of shade
+ Very welcoming feel to the course (I'll get to that in the other thoughts)

Cons:

- The teeboxes are 4' x 4' boxes filled with large chunk crushed limestone.
- The signs on holes 7-9 must have been printed before the teeboxes and/or baskets installed because they are very different than what you get with GPS
- The holes are generally pretty short

Other Thoughts:

Okay, for what it is, this course is nice. I would rate this a 2.0 however, the amenities bump it to 2.5. There are new bathroom facilities right near the parking, and the whole park itself is very well maintained. Where I think this course excels is bringing families that are new to the game out onto a course and challenging themselves a bit. It is not a destination course for touring pros, but rather a rewarding course for the novice. Here is why:
Hole 1 is an open field behind the parking lot. It ends up at the treeline. This is where newer players will learn how hard they can throw and get there. It's wide open so a griplocked shot won't get lost, but overthrowing it (feelgood moment perhaps) will get you into trouble. Hole 1 is a nice way to start off a round.
Hole 2, though brings the tunnel challenge. Can you keep a disc straight through a corridor? It's not exceptionally far, but your only choice is to go dead straight.
Hole 3 opens things up with a big uphill toss about 300 feet. It's wide open and you can finally see what you can throw for distance and then get thwarted because of the hill. Gives you something to think about when you do it the next time.
Hole 4 is downhill through the trees. Families will have fun seeing who doesn't get plinko'd on this one
Hole 5 is another corridor with a big righthand dogleg... and a picnic table right at the turn. This is a fun challenge for a new RHBH player.
Hole 6 is the toughest hole on the course IMO. It's all uphill, it has a nasty chicane that requires black magic to birdie. The hard left turn is about 80' up ahead and then it is quickly followed by a 90 degree right turn. There's no line to cut the left turn corner and once you make the right turn, it's a steep slope up to the basket through more trees. I enjoyed (complaining about) this hole the most on this course.
Hole 7 is a downhill bomb. After fumbling through 6, the novice will be rewarded with a 300ish foot (the sign says it's only 170' but GPS disagrees) downhill throw. It's fun, and because of the slope, new arms will get to see some epic (for new players) distance.
Hole 8 is not too long but it's uphill.
Hole 9 is great if you want to try to get a spike hyzer ace and it brings you right back to the lot.

What you should glean from the hole analysis is that this course doesn't offer any spots for you to really crush a driver, except maybe going uphill on #3. The experienced player won't find a challenge in holes 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, or 9. But then again, the experienced player who wants to work on short tunnel shots or skip shots or shot shaping in the trees will find that this course provides some practice in a very nice setting.

I enjoyed playing this course with my daughter. I think it's a great course for kids.
