Pros:
-Mach baskets are in good condition
-main 9 tees mostly have at least sign posts
-multiple alternate tees for apparently 3 alternate layouts
-small, undulating hills make for some cool topography; fun greens
-just enough mature trees around that there will be at least a few in play on each hole
-nice, clean community park; lots of other park amenities
-DG course is separate from most other areas and park users
-the basket plates face the tee they belong to (for the main tees, obviously), makes it easier to navigate the main 9 holes without a map
-bridges over some of the wet areas
Cons:
-hole 4 is missing its sign and the basket is blind from the tee, don't throw toward basket 5 ahead to the left
-some other holes have the poles but the actual sign is missing
-the alternate tees are tough to find, map absolutely necessary
-some of the natural tees are pretty uneven
-the scattered trees do provide obstacles but it's still mostly open and susceptible to the wind
Other Thoughts:
This course is pretty fun for a simple 9 holer and it looks like it gets a lot of traffic. It's been around for awhile and it looks like it has gone through some changes and there are a lot of alternate layouts and even some extras baskets and extra holes.
According to the maps here there is a main layout where the tee signs are and there are an additional 3 alternate layouts, some which are marked and some which are not. I didn't have time to check out any of the other tees but they don't look easy to find. That said, it looks like there are usually some locals you can ask or follow.
The small mounds around the course make for some interesting greens and cool topography. There are scattered mature trees that you have to navigate around and they are in play on every hole. The course is pretty simple but fun and it looks like the replay value is pretty good for locals who know all the layouts.
This makes for a great pair with the nearby First Colony Aquatic Center and these two courses seem to be among the better courses on this side of town. I'd play here often.
