Favorite course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 21, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Bright green "next tee" signs with arrow
good tee pads
occasional benches
trash cans on some holes
very scenic
requires variety of shots and shot making ability
not terribly long but trees can impede scoring opportunity
hilly/elevation changes
woody
great camping inside the park

Cons:

Even having played this course several times, it was difficult to see the basket between trees. A flag or other visual would help.
Holes 6 through 9 do not receive the same level of care as other holes-partly due to the deep ditch winding through this area and inaccessibility for a maintenance vehicle.
Locals enter the park via backwoods, have seen 4-wheelers driving down middle of fairways on 7, 8, and 9 and have given me a hard time about being there (in the park), saw signs of fresh 4-wheeler tracks again.
Hole 13 seems to be a plinko nightmare with no clear 'fairway' to the basket through the trees.

Other Thoughts:

Recent weather has placed a few limbs and small trees down that hadn't been removed. Favorite holes are number 4 across the water, and number 12 coming off the top of the levee (but that climb to the top tho!). Even being a Novice/Rec player, it's not difficult to score birds but isn't demoralizing with unreachable distances off the tee.
My favorite course!

Fun course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 26, 2016 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful views.
Short to medium for beginners and novices like myself.
Lots of different types of throws once you make it passed the 2nd hole.
Clear water made finding and retrieving the couple discs I enviably threw into water very easy,
Lots of hazards that aren't difficult.
Benches on a large percentage of holes, if no bench there were plenty of things to sit on.
All holes (minus 13) were clearly marked with posts painted neon green.

Cons:

13's post was leaning against a tree, it seemed to have been dug up and placed there.
Not to many holes where you'd use a distance disc, but the pro side is you use a lot more than one shot/throw.
I say this as a con, but not having played the course, I walked most holes to find the baskets, a few had orange flags which help immensely, but some were hard to spot. They were mostly behind trees, though.
The tees that weren't concrete had two rocks painted neon green marking where to throw from; these rocks at some point won't be there.

Other Thoughts:

Most of the reviews for this course are fairly old. Saying that; there was a recent event out here (3/12) and everything was clearly marked and there wasn't much confusion on where to go (look for the obvious neon green sign with "next tee" and an arrow pointing which way) or where to throw to.

Scenic and 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 23, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Roosevelt State Park is beautiful, and the course is lovely and scenic. For those who like a course that is like a moderate trail hike, you'll like this place. Superb & clean campground facilities. Lots of trees and tricky shots and some water OBs too. A couple of pin placements on tricky peninsulas that are challenging and fun.

What I like most about this course is that no two holes are really alike out here. You never get that feeling you get at some places where feel like you've "already played this hole."

Cons:

It was kinda hard to find the course after getting into the park, but the park is worth seeing if you get lost. Take a left when you pass the entrance ranger station.

The course is best played in the cooler months of the year. When the grass gets high ticks are possible (use precautions).

Possible to lose discs on the water holes. Bring a floater or use discs you won't miss on the water holes.

Other Thoughts:

Designed by the up-and-coming Doug "Jabba" Williams so you know it's well done.

Moccasin Bend has a pretty good variety of shots. I like hole 11 which is on the side of an earthen dam and has a steep steep fairway.
