Poorly-designed Municipal Course

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 14, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

(NOTE: Do not confuse this with the six hole Monroe Township Community Park in Mechanicsburg PA. The two are equally bad, but each in its own special way).

Minimal, but permanent, tees signs indicating par and distance: check. Sturdy attractive Grow the Sport baskets: check. This ends the list of positives at the newly-installed Monroe Township Recreation Park.

Cons:

The starting three holes play up and down an open hill. The first indication that this isn't going to be great: #2 is an uphill 400' par 3, and #3 is a 225' par 2. Who exactly is this designed for? Probably not beginners - who will also be challenged by the 600' par 4 later in the round

Hazards include a locked, fenced area and hip-deep rough on holes #4 and #5, playing along the sidelines of a soccer field on #8, and a playground just to the left of the throwing line on #9.

Other Thoughts:

Rather than continuing to come up with my own words to describe this hardly-even-worth-bagging stop, the uDisc reviews are unusually candid:

"No teepads, throwing over other holes, and no real challenge other than throwing 300 feet. Course is fine when empty but can be dangerous with people. Also who designs a par 2?"

"Still a no from me. I tried to give it a 2nd chance."

"There has to be research before just throwing baskets in the ground."

Amen to that. Municipalities: glad you're investing in equipment. But make sure you're designing something safe and enjoyable for people who come to your park
