I have been to this course a few times. Only once was the course in an up-kept manner. Tall grasses, trees down around a hole, missing basket, bushes grown around things, and tee box had to have limbs broke and moved just to get to it. I like the course when it is maintained but just seems like that is not very often.

This course offers a nice variety of holes, from short and technical to long and more open. Most holes are open fairways of varying length playing into guarded baskets.

Great variation in hole distance from 200' out to 890'. As expected, the shorter holes are tighter and more technical, while the longer holes offer a significant stretchs of more open fairway.

To give an example of variety, here are the first three holes:

- Hole 1 is 315' and completely open until you reach the basket that is "just" tucked into a hollow in the trees.
- Hole 2 is 210' and the only completely wooded hole on the course. It offers two separate fairways (right or left) with no-mans land down the center.
- Hole 3 (460') starts in an open powerline right-of-way, doglegs left into the woods, and again right to the pin.

Many of the holes begin with an open fairway, then bend into the woods to a protected basket. Hole 9 is a 280' hole straight across the only pond, with water carry most (250') of the way.

The rough is thick and punishing. Stay out of it! (Pro and con?)

Large, flat concrete tee pads with excellent texture. I did run across a few low "headstone" type tee markers designating shorter tees on longer holes. They were well hidden in the grass and I have no idea how many exist.

Good descriptive tee signs on most holes, though a handful have been damaged or removed. Huge course map at the beginning.

The low-quality baskets are a glaring contrast with the rest of the course infrastructure. Chains and poles are rusting, but they are catching acceptably.

A few tee signs were missing. The post and plate were still there, but the sign itself had been vandalized or perhaps pried off. Too bad, as they are nice signs!

At least a third of the holes (5, 6, 8, 14, 15, 16) start out as open drives that "bend" into the treeline to a basket in a pocket of trees. Not a significant con, but they seem similar to an extent.

Hole 12 is an absolutely open hole that relies on a designated "island green" for challenge. There are no permanent markings for the island, so you have to sort of guess.

In an anti-climatic ending to my round, Basket 18 was missing. There was an orange traffic cone but no basket. Not exactly going out with a bang...

Enormous parking lot that services the large complex of ball fields in the park. Might get crowded during scheduled games, but the course plays clear of the fields. Restrooms available at the ball fields.

Morris Frank definitely met my expectations when I went to play it. I had previously played Kiwanis Park and was always confused by the lack of quality courses in Lufkin when neighboring Nacogdoches had three quality courses. Morris Frank fits right in with those three.

The course features a really wide variety of hole lengths and hole design. There are long holes in the woods and in the open as well as shorter holes that are in the woods and in the open. For the most part, I felt that all of the holes were fair and had good design.

I do not really make comments on certain holes in my reviews, but a few holes really stuck out as fun and very memorable holes. Hole 8 and hole 14 were my two favorite holes.

On some of the longer holes, like hole 8, your second and third shots are more important than your first. The pin placements are tough and you need to be precise on your approach to the baskets.

Navigation is not terrible. The baskets have pained arrows to where you are supposed to go to next. The tee signs were descriptive and seemed to have the distances fixed as some previous reviewers noted the incorrect distances. There are concrete tees, which are suitable.

I am not too fond of courses that are at multi-use parks with baseball fields, but there was enough land at the park that kind of made you forget that you were at a multi-use park. You will not run into other park goers minus the first hole and hole 5 and 18, which play close to the baseball fields.

The liberty baskets are definitely a glaring con. The course has great signage, great tee pads, but someone skimped out on buying quality baskets that will last longer. Baskets have a more direct effect on the quality of the course more so than tee signs or tees, in my opinion.

The rough is tough, and from what I heard, maintenance is sparse at times. Hole 17 rough was particularly bad when I went and played.

Hole 16 was the one hole that I did not particularly like the design of (maybe because I hit an electric wire randomly) but the gap is small to hit from the tee. It is not a bad hole, but definitely one of the worse on the course.

Lufkin desperately needed this course, and Morris Frank is a great course. It had a high fun factor, but I would be wary of playing this course in the summer and not during a tournament because of the risk of high weeds and the potential for losing discs.

This course is challenging yet offers great risk/reward balance. Tee signs do a great job of showing where each basket sits. a basket tine is painted pointing in the direction of the next tee on all baskets.

Like most advanced courses, it can be confusing to navigate the course on your first visit especially with hidden baskets. But the strategic design is what makes it fun. I have now played this course a few times and I am impressed at how well it is designed.

The Holes challenge the advanced players with a variety of shots. If you are looking for a fun and challenging 18 holes then don't hesitate to try out this course. This is one of my top 5 courses!

Elevation is near non-existent
Very little shade so rounds in the summer can be very exhausting- expect to be sunburned

Overall MF is a challenging course without being unfair, it is possible to get low scores but you have to work for it. MF is the type of course where you'll find yourself using at least 75% of your bag and throwing anything from a full BH drive to a 50ft. FH upshot. You won't be able to hyzerbomb your way through the whole course. Another thing to keep in mind is that most holes are guarded by trees and brush so you'll have to go halfway up the fairway to see the basket your first round. I can see frustration happening but it makes for interesting golf once you know your way around, think of it as a necessary evil. Signature hole #9 shoots over a pond that can be intimidating on windy days. Very beautiful in the spring and in the morning. Also a word of warning, watch out for hole #17. It may look innocent but there is a deep hole filled with nasty vines and brush in front of the hole that is very easy to lose discs in.


Seeing the other reviews, the tee signs have been fixed and now display the proper par and distance. Please disregard that-they haven't updated their reviews since then.


All in all its one of the very best in the East Texas area. Maybe not the prettiest course out there and maybe not the most fun but well worth stopping by to play. Odds are you won't be disappointed!

This course is well worth the trip. It is a long course that rewards good shots and punishes bad shots. A lot of holes have risk reward options to give trailing players a chance to move on the leaders. Morris is at it's best during events. Come to the Deep East Texas Amateur Championship in early May, or the Lufkin Open in early August to play a great tournament course!

I have now played this course a dozen times as well as playing the annual Tourny and I am impressed at how well this course is designed. The Holes offer a great variety of BH anny and hyser shots and FH shots. If you are looking for a fun and challenging 18 holes then dont hesitate to try out this course. This course is my new favorite for sure.

This is a perfect example of a club/park making the most of the park they have. Some of my favorite holes are the holes cleared into the brush (2 3 4).
They actually made decent sized fairways instead of just super narrow paths. Many baskets cannot be seen from the tee, which I consider a good thing. Of course it's tough your first time out, but I think it's a great way to design a hole. Open fairway, guarded basket.

Yes, the signs are misleading or wrong in some places. There are a couple holes that drainage is an issue, some serious mud.
You really should just go to an event or get someone to guide you.

This course reminds me a lot of Cain Park in Athens, which is one of my favorites. I think they really maximized their potential at this park. I'm looking forward to getting back out there.

--Signs are inaccurate, or at least I think they are. They say every hole is a par 3...some of the longest par 3 holes I have ever played, almost impossible. Holes range from 200-550ft and all are par 3.
--Some of the signs don't even point in the direction of the tee. Not a huge deal, just a little annoying.
--A majority of the baskets are not visible from the tee. This is challenging but annoying hole after hole. Most of the time you just throw in a direction and just hope it is where the basket may be.
--The course does not flow very well. There is a bit of distance between each basket and each hole. There are a couple of holes that require you to walk back to where you just teed off for another hole.
--The grass is really high for a majority of the course and I have a feeling that parts of the course that are not near baseball fields will rarely get mowed; I could be wrong.
--Baskets that are in trees are surrounded by bushes and weeds. They may have left this as some sort of challenge but it does not look good.
--This is a fairly new course and yet the numbers on the baskets are already faded to where you can't even read them. Also, I am pretty sure a couple are mislabeled.

I was looking forward to playing this course. I have played the 9-hole course at Kiwanas for a while and hearing there is finally an 18 hole course got me excited. However, playing it for the first time I was really disappointed. It just wasn't really that fun to play. Yes, it was challenging but that does not make up for the fact that you have to trudge through lots of tall grass to get to the next tee, that is if you can even find the next tee. Maybe I came on a bad day and maybe they will keep it cleaner in the future but I was really disappointed.

First off, a big THANK YOU to everyone who had a hand in getting this course put in. Lufkin desperately needed an 18 hole course and they delivered in a big way. Leadership Lufkin put in huge resources, as did the city of Lufkin, and the Lufkin Launchers put in hours and hours to build this great course.

Its cliche, but this course is complete. I'd like to see a little more elevation but it really has everything. Open, wooded, short, long, uphill, downhill, par 4s and one par 5. There are three Pars 4s that require two well placed drives/approaches to get to the green, they're not just long bombs. Hole 8 is a long and open par 5 850ft(very fair) and 9 is a signature hole over the water 90% of the way - Par 3 280ft. And this course is beautiful. Although its in a multi use park with all the amenities, theres little to interfere with the course. And once you get to hole 7, you'll be out there, all by yourself. There's a great deck area overlooking the pond on 9 for a gallery or tourney HQs. This course is fair, bottom line. Adv players should be challenged to shoot under par, but rec players should enjoy themselves even with the extra strokes.

The most obvious con is that the tee signs are completely inaccurate. But my understanding is that will be fixed asap, so hopefully by summer time they will be correct. I would like to see a drop zone on 17. The rough there eats discs on all sides of the pin except behind it. Theres some standing water about 40-50ft in front of the pin on 18. Supposedly its a few feet deep but I'm guessing by summer it will be dry. It was played as OB in the opening tourney, I'd like to see it played as casual. Also, the approach on 7 needs to be cleaned up a little. The course is growing, give it time. What also growing is poison ivy/oak so watch out for that.

IMO this course is as good or better than anything in East Texas, not including Selah or Dagwood. I played Lake Nac before playing Morris Frank(both for the first time) and the lake was overgrown while Frank was cleared with fresh cut lines. Some may say Hole 4 is gimmicky but I really liked its uniqueness. A big skip OS skip around the right for RHBH or a sky hyzer over the top. As this course is played more and more the lines will clear and play will improve. This course is cart friendly. Overall I really really liked Morris Frank. Once they make their final cuts and tee signs are fixed I'll bump it to a 4.5. With Morris Frank, Nac's courses, Lindsey Park, and Selah, East Texas is begging you to make a road trip to play some of the states best courses.

Great location, Amazing tee boxes, great hidden baskets for challenging players

All holes are par 3 which is usually fine except you go from a 240 ft par 3 into a 720 ft par 3(approximate distances). Uhhhhhh, I'm confused. Wouldn't it be better to offer more par 2 and par 4 holes in this instance. Just my thoughts.
