Pros:
-Baskets are amazing, DISCatchers are my favorite baskets and playing on brand new ones is always a treat.
-If someone asked me what a true woods course this course would certainly come to mind. The fairways are there for sure, but so is the rough. missing you gap by even a foot can lead to a tough position where your only option is pitching out. What this course does that a lot of woods courses don't is it adds different shot shapes. there aren't just basic hazers or basic straight shots, there are long dog legs to either side, slight flip ups, etc.
-The other thing besides 'woodsy-ness' that defines this course is elevation. There are certainly a lot of hill out here, I walked up to hole one holding Udisc in my hand thinking "Oh 195 feet, that's an easy start" but upon reaching the tee and looking up the massive hill I realized I couldn't have been more wrong.
-For a course as new as this one, and in a place that is so forested as it is, its truly impressive how good the paths are.
-Navigation on this course is tricky, but not too bad, there are signs all around pointing to the next tee. The other thing I thought was cool is that you can tell how this course was planned, there are little pink flags near most tees and baskets, as well as some carving on trees, I thought it was cool to see a part fo the process of shaping a beautiful course out of the forest.
-This is an excellent place to play disc golf, I took my non-disc-golfer parents along and they said that walking the course was an awesome hike
-this course is clean, absolutely spotless, I saw only one beer can, garbage is my biggest peeve on disc golf courses, and It was great to play a course that had no garbage.
-Multiple pin placements on many holes, in my experience it is hard to do that well on a super wooded course like mossy roc, but from what I could see, these pins would work well
Cons:
-I can't lie, not a fan of the tees out here, they are gravel which is not ideal. I totally understand that there is probably no way to put cement pads in, but some turf or pavers or at least some rubber would be much nicer.
-Tee signs are also minimally helpful. They are pretty and all, but on a good majority of the holes it is close to impossible to see the basket without walking up the fairway, so the signs need to be more helpful in that respect, some holes have signs that show dead straight, but the basket is tucked behind a group of trees or slightly off to one side. A way I would suggest getting around this issue would be to put markers on key trees to help navigate holes and find landing zones.
-this is a new course so, it still needs to get beat in. The rough is very rough, which adds a nice challenge for experienced disc golfers who can hit lines, or miss by only a little bit. this course is not beginner friendly at all, one beginner style shank and a disc is gone forever. Also, the underbrush on some parts of some fairways makes it annoyingly difficult to locate discs even when you nail your line.
Other Thoughts:
This is an awesome course that anyone in the Bellingham area should definitely play. The coolest thing about this course is that is is both on private property, but available for the public to play, major kudos to the property owner who is willing to let random dudes like myself come and walk around their land.
