Burnsville's First Public DGC! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 22, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Very challenging and scenic both lines and greens that place a premium on accuracy
-Course utilizes a flat hiking trail through a very mature mixed hardwood and white pine forest
-Each hole requires a certain shot shape to successfully card an ace, birdie or par.. miss the intended line and several less than 200' holes will have you scratching your head at bogey
-Elevation :) every hole has the potential for either death putts or roll a ways.. thank me for that haha
-Equipment in terms of baskets (Discatchers), signs (clearly marked metal signs giving intended flight path and distance marked with a tape), and restrooms with water year-round (located in the softball concession stand)

Cons:

-On a high school campus, which has two cons that go along with that 1)the design was limited in terms of space and available land for disc golf 2)Course can only be played NOT during school hours
-Teebox's 1) Concrete tee's in the mountains are really, really hard to build 2) As short as most of the holes are concrete tee's are not needed 3) Some of them are not level, but like I say you really do not need it
Holes 4 & 8 (See insert Below)
-No Benches
-The awesome vine swing we had going got ripped down by Thomas haha

Other Thoughts:

For what MHHS is intended for, it turned out really awesome in my opinion. We designed it with how scenic can we make it plus how can we teach people in our area the basic shots of disc golf in mind.

Quick run through of holes:
1) Easy opening hyzer hole, don't throw it to straight
2) Very scenic, challenging hole where you will likely be met with a headwind
3) Short and straight, make sure you finish short and straight or you will be getting poked by guardian spruce trees
4) Arguably the hardest hole on the course requiring a booming uphill right turning shot. Steep run away green with really no landing zone (see insert below)
5) Awkward tee shot with a deathly putt if you sail the basket
6) This hole is awkward as well with where the teebox wound up, you are supposed to tee off from the trail to the right of the sign, cool little uphill hole
7) Difficult angle calls for a skipping uphill flick to Ace, neat little boulder by the basket and a couple of the biggest oaks on the course
8) This hole was cut-in to be a short, hyzer putter shot.. but the basket got placed a little to far to the left (from the angle from the teebox) and this hole is now the 'poke-and-hope' hole on the course. I myself have made plenty of stupid bogeys on it because of the severe width of both lanes to the basket. Sorry folks, it is what it is.. a round spoiler :)
9) Probably the most fun I have ever had on a hole less than 100'.. make the gap and you will likely hit chains, don't make the gap and get caught up on the hill.. make a challenging penalty putt for a par from the curve on the asphalt

I know in the future holes 4 and 8 will show up in the con section but honestly every course has at least one hole that is either really hard or kinda stupid.. as the course designer Ill admit that these two holes would fall under that classification so don't eat the entire course up for those two holes. Both have nearly been aced, hole 8 has been aced. Birdies and Bogeys both come about the same time so in other words play smart on these two holes and they wont kill your round to bad.. Play risky and you will hate them forever and ever and ever lol But in all honesty, with the way the course had to basically work out these holes were just meant to be
