Wapack Wilderness DGC is what we all wish we had in our own back yard. DG fanatic John Britton has carved out 19 holes over 35 acres of beautiful New Hampshire terrain. He has plans for at least 4 more holes later this year. We went on the 4th of July and had the entire course to ourselves. If you dislike crowded courses, this place is for you.

Good mix of holes covering all angles, distances and elevations. You will need the whole bag. Hole 1 is a quirky warm up: You start at back corner of the house shooting back towards the road across his lawn and into the woods about 30 feet. The tee pad for hole 2 is actually in the dirt road (don't worry, chances are slim that there is car coming). It is on hole 2 that you realize what this course really has in store for you. Huge rocks covered in moss jut out of the fairway lined with tall trees. Really awesome looking hole. From there on out you are in for a great disc golfing adventure, and a pretty serious hike as well. We didn't really see any poison ivy and the thorns weren't that vicious either for such a new and wooded course. Beers etc are totally welcome on this course, just carry out what you carry in. The trees create a ton of shade which came in handy on a hot summer day. Wind was not a factor. Hole 12 would probably be our favorite: Downhill shot over a pond/swamp on the left and then over a creek, finishes to the right. Be sure to read the map/tee sign/story for that hole.

Not a huge con but you will need John to at least explain the middle section of the course because some baskets are used twice. Chances are he'll play a few holes with you anyway. Hole 5 is the most open and therefor gets the most sun and rain. It is overrun with tall grass which can eat up discs and hide ankle breakers. Play from the short tee (450?) if the 650? footer is too daunting. Most other holes are in good shape (red spay paint will guide you). Some of the baskets are semi-homemade but actually catch pretty well! Most of the teepads were gravel, but again, work pretty well. Aside from navigation issues, the only real con was the amount of flies attacking us. They just don't care how much deet you use. His two beautiful Weimaraners joined us for a few holes and distracted the flies for a bit, but then I just felt bad for them!

Call John ahead of time (603-593-2155) and leave a message (phone service is spotty). If you live within an hour or 2 from there it is certainly worth the trip. It is $5 per person. We gave him double. To have an entire course to yourself is priceless. Wear shoes. Not exactly a beginner course, but not that brutal either if you avoid the trees
