Pretty uninteresting 2+ years drive by

Pros:

The course plays through a multi-use neighborhood park that's flat and grassy with scattered trees. Most holes play through mature trees with well-defined fairways and some interesting ob if you play the sidewalks that way. A couple holes are more open, but it can be windy which makes for a little more challenge.

There are decent tee markers, and the course flows well enough that you won't have trouble following from one hole to the next, or seeing where to shoot. The baskets were in good shape and caught well. The walkers on the path seemed to be aware of disc golfers, and several stopped to let us play rather than just walking across the fairways.

Cons:

The course is very short and not very challenging or interesting. The design makes the best of a pretty mediocre piece of land for disc golf by forcing some different shots on the holes with trees, but in the end it's a small city park that's never going to support a great course.

The tees were dirt and were quite rutted in spots, if it had rained recently, it looked like they would be pretty muddy. The course has several conflicts with walking paths, softball fields and tennis courts, making for some possible safety issues on a nice summer day.

Other Thoughts:

There are some good holes here, but there's just not that much going on. If you're in the area and want to play a really quick round or want a place to work on approaches and putts this isn't a bad place, otherwise there are better courses around.

Beginners will find the course very approachable, there isn't a lot of length or punishment for errant shots. More experienced players won't find much challenge here, with shorter holes and fairly to completely open lines.

C- = a little below average for a 9 holer 2+ years

Pros:

What I personally like and how this course stacks up in my list of 9 hole courses:

1) Holes with good risk/reward. Fair, but harsh punishment for bad decisions or execution. == C-
(Due to the open nature of the course and short holes, it is inconceivable to be punished with a bogey for a bad drive.)

2) Holes that have rewarding birdie opportunities for me. I throw 300' accurately, 360' max. == C-
(All holes are too short for me to not expect a birdie. A good course to go out with 1 midrange and see how low you can go.)

3) More wooded than open - lots of variety of shots required caused by hole shape and topography == B
(This is the strength of the course. Given what's there to work with, the designer did a masterful job of coming up with a layout that forces a fair number of shot shapes. Nice!)

4) Natural beauty (Appalachian beauty preferred) and seclusion. == C-
(Typical older public park. The mature oaks are nice, but the seclusion the course provides is zilch.)

5) Bonus points for multi-throw holes with defined landing zones, good risk/reward and multiple options to play them. == N/A

Other Thoughts:

It's all about feeding the addiction, so I ranked this course subjectively based on my own "personal addiction factor". The grades above tell how well the course will draw me back to itself again and again and again. Since I have played a decent number of courses (149 18-hole, 91 9-hole as of late 2009), my hope is that players/explorers who have similar addiction tastes will find my ratings list helpful as they choose courses to play and explore.

I fully expect others with different tastes/philosophies to disagree with me....that's the fun of things here. See my profile for my rating philosophy.
