Myrtle Ridge 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 15, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Has kiosk and course map posted

Has tee posts only indicating hole number

Has concrete tee pads for a few holes

Has multiple basket placements for most holes

More wooded than open fairways with doglegs and slight elevations - which will be challenging to the casual player

Quiet - had whole course to myself on a Saturday afternoon

Free parking

Cons:

Some natural tee pads have roots protruding and are not flat - recommend teeing off on the grass/dirt around them

Newly poured concrete tee pads are on the small side (about 4x6) and some are already cracking

Lots of trees where some fairways can be quite unfair and deflect discs into other trees

Some holes require blind shots - recommend a spotter

Baskets are hard to locate on some holes - need flags or bright paint

Needs more next tee signs - recommend a course map for the first-timer

No variety in pars - par 54

Course design and flow could use improvement as there are long walks between 2&3, 4&5, 8&9, 13&14, and 17&18

Course was in bad shape on the day I visited - tall grass and undergrowth needed clearing on most holes

Other Thoughts:

This is a challenging, 18 hole university course in Milledgeville that I played on a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon. The course is easy to find once you locate the kiosk from the parking lot. I highly recommend taking a picture of the course map posted there if visiting for the first time. Although there were some next tee signs posted, I had to refer to the course map for many holes that did not have signs. Also, the course map provides hole distances since the tee posts at each hole don't provide those. I was surprised that about half of the holes had concrete tee pads - although they are a bit on the short side and some are already cracking. Some of the natural tee pads were rough enough to justify driving from a standstill position. Most of the wooded fairways didn't offer a clear line to the basket but instead gave me a feeling of poke and pray. Overall I was disappointed in the condition of this course as it has the potential to be a quality course with its design. Perhaps this course is better maintained outside of the summer months when school is in session? I wanted to give this course a better rating but this course was horrendous in contrast to playing nearby Depot Disc Golf earlier that day.

A Challenge 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 20, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

The holes themselves are mostly interesting and challenging. A few holes were some of the most interesting that I've played (12 and 13 were great).

Not crowded.

You really get into the woods.

Cons:

Super easy to lose discs - we lost one and almost lost two more. Either be careful with your throws or have a plan for if/when you think you've lost a disc.

Need better signage between holes/showing where the basket is.

Other Thoughts:

With some more money and time invested, this course could be a great one! If signage was better and some of the brush was cleaned out I would bump it as high as a 3.5. As is, it can be frustrating but is still a great, challenging play.
