Classic New England Woods Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 19, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Excellent design, works as a challenging White Course for advanced players AND an Red Course for Rec players. The Red Course is not overly daunting to beginners, though this course is no "walk in the park".

-Huge, beautiful property dedicated to disc golf. Course plays great at opening (October, 2017) and has a huge upside to grow into something truly epic.

-True par fives, fours and challenging par 3's. Risk / Reward decisions on every shot. Multiple lines to every basket and landing area

-Safe layout. More than adequate separation between fairways and between baskets and next tees. Still some rugged walking, with tree stumps and large rocks to contend with, but if you are paying attention nothing you can't avoid

-Gleaming new Prodigy baskets that catch very well. Bright yellow coloring stands out.

-Tees are turf, large, level, and with adequate space for run-up and follow through. Red course tees are smaller and not as packed in but are level and free of obstructions. Room to take run-ups and follow-through on both. Solid footing and still easy on knees and ankles.

-Classic "New England" woods course, with some tight holes protected by towering ancient maples, huge oaks, maples, and occasionally some spindly birch and poplars. Several holes play along old logging roads, but there is one "open bomber hole" (one) and least a few holes with fairly generous fairways.

-Good use of elevation... sometimes subtle, sometimes in your face (#15 uphill, #17 downhill) and occasionally diabolical (#13, cross-hill, with the fairway turning right to left while the slope falls away left to right)

-Starting to have some amenities; picnic table by the first tee, a most holes have benches.

-Large parking lot and good gravel driveway

-Practice baskets for league and tournaments

-Beautiful property, clean, and a fair amount of wildlife. A porcupine lives near the 6th fairway, coyotes and even a bear have been seen in the area. Hawks, eagles, owls, vultures, and other birds seem to favor the property.

-Seasonal streams and stone wall line many of the fairways. All streams play casual when flowing. Many dry up completely in late summer or drought conditions

-Underbrush not too bad, relatively low chance to loose discs. Usually a chance to make a recovery shot to try to save par if a drive gets away. Will get better as brush piles off the fairway are eliminated.

Cons:

-Tics, bees, and poison ivy. It's a New England woodland, must be expected. No worse than any other New England course, and the poison ivy is slowly starting to come under control.

-UPDATE: 5/9/2018 Wow, this course is maturing nicely. Most piles have been cleared and fairways are much better. Now cart friendly

-Wayfaring and tee signs adequate, but obviously temporary. Needs something with a more permanent look and feel.

-Needs more benches and could use a trash can or two

Other Thoughts:

HUGE upside, it will be fun to watch as this course develops further. I could easily see bumping my rating up as this course plays in and gets some amenities like good signage and a few more benches.
UPDATE: 5/9/2018 Good navigation and signage, trash cans and benches on some holes, and the Pro Shop has a variety of inventory.

Pay to play. This can be a con to some, but the $10/day greens fee is a great value for the quality of the disk golf experience.

Discs for sale at the welcome shed weekend hours only.
