Bring your bombing arm 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 30, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Plenty of parking, and never busy. Rare to ever see more than two other groups when you play, even on weekends.

- Plenty of open bomb opportunities on a lot of holes, especially on the back nine. If you like to test out your distance and throw all-out for a potential chance at a surprising birdie or two (can happen on #7, 11, and 14), you'll love this place!

- Surprisingly good use of the few trees in the fairways and around the baskets to make the holes more interesting and challenging than simple "field" holes.

- Great, detailed tee signs that actually portray the tree and hazard locations with accuracy! That's hard to do, so you really have to appreciate the effort that went into them.

- Detailed course map by the parking lot, and it's a full 18.

Cons:

- The tees are mostly dirt, and some of those that do have cement paver tees are breaking up and treacherous. Like on #16, be wary of sliding on sand on the concrete tee - I have multiple times...

- Watch out for the hidden, deep, murky stream just off the right on #15, 16, and 17. It's a lot closer to in play than you might think from the tees, and if you shank it in there your disc is gone for sure.

- Some people like the elevated pyramid basket on #14, but baskets like that always seem gimmicky and unnecessary to me.

- #15 is a real bear, virtually a guaranteed bogey. If you land behind the big tree island just past the first marsh you'll burn a shot getting back into the open. Then you have to bomb it into your choice of two narrow 'fairways' to the hole, the left of which is really too narrow to be useful. Assuming you choose the right 'fairway', don't turn it over into the trees on the right or you'll end up in the hidden stream back there. And finally the basket (yes it's labeled Practice) is on a hill, adding to the putt difficulty.

- #15, 16, and 18 are prone to flooding, be wary of playing the back nine after even a moderate rainstorm.

Other Thoughts:

- With it's generally open style, it offers a wonderful reprieve from the dense woods of nearby Alcyon and Stafford. Adds great variety to the style of courses in the South Jersey area.

- For those who enjoy dense woods, #6 gives it to you. That hole and the narrow fairway of #18 add real variety to the course.

- Favorite hole would definitely be #11, "The Beach", due to its long, sandy, dual fairway with a tree island in the middle. If you throw two accurate bombs in a row (with the second from slippery footing), then you can have a shot at birdie on this par 4 monster. A signature hole for sure.

New Brooklyn, Not Bad 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 19, 2020 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A lot of open holes for beginners first 9 holes.
Fairways are mowed and maintained nicely.
Decent variety of hole distances.
A good course for people just starting out and learning the basics.

Cons:

Hole arrangement for front 9 could be a little better, having to walk a decent amount to get to first hole. A lot of people start out at hole 3 (secondary smaller parking lot) and go to 7 since its closer the 3 basket.
Maintenance on foliage and underbrush surrounding the holes needs more attention. A lot of sticker bushes cover the outer skirt of the fairways.
Teeboxes aren't complete, most are just dirt next to the signs but not that big of a deal.
Back 9 holes are very long, not made for beginners and made for long distance throwers.
Course can be waterlogged passed the 14th hole.
11/14th holes should be a par 5 (a whopping 1000 ft)

Other Thoughts:

We last played the course, got to the end of hole 7 basket and between 5 teebox and there was a black rat snake (or something similar in color) just sitting there about 5 feet from us in the open. We decided to leave and have been weary about going back. I'm not sure who to talk about this situation, if anyone reading this knows who i can contact please send me a PM. Thank you!

Pros:

As noted by other reviewers, there is the variety of holes between the front and back 9s. As a ball golfer first and learning disc golfer, I appreciate the open fairways of most of the holes. Still suffer grip lock too often. Although I put the driver in the cutting briar a few times along the creek holes on more than one occasion, I have not lost a disc here (knock on wood).

As a ball golfer, learning that it used to be a par-3 ball golf course explains the open-course look on the back 9 and useful cart path (helped me find tees). I was really impressed with that, though the walking still was a bit tough for me (weak foot).

When available, I like the honeycomb tee pads.

On my first visit here, I initially thought to only play the front 9 and go home but was so intrigued by the looks of the back 9, I had to try it. Glad I did! The several bombs-away holes there make it worth the walk.

I thought the hole signs were good. Did not see any next-tee signs. Would be good or even illustrate next-tee with an arrow on the hole sign maps, if that is not already the case (and I missed it).

Appreciated the suggested routing on those signs. Not always sure which sides of trees/bushes to go on or if both offered a path by just looking at what I saw from the tee.

Very-well maintained. And I have a preference (though can be dangerous) for courses in parks with other activities. Just for the greater opportunity for people to be afoot if you need their help.

I even appreciated the busy street and folks walking dogs or jogging on the path along the street. The place can easily feel isolated.

I really liked the sand hole (no. 11), the big long no. 14, the long no. 7, Hyzer nos. 2 and 10, the straightforward nos. 1 and 3.

I liked that the wooded fairways or bushes/clumps of trees in the fairway holes offered a challenge but were not discouraging. Surmountable.

Cons:

Holes 15-18 have been an absolute swamp on the days I've played. I suppose nothing really can be done about that beyond playing on a dry day! All that casual water made for some interesting choices and a lot of layups.

The place can easily be isolated. Pick your time to go with what is most comfortable for you.

Other Thoughts:

I really like this course. I routinely play it when in Philly and/or Atlantic City or Cape May even. In November 2018, while visiting friends in Philly, I found this course on this website on my smartphone and am glad I made the effort.

So you know: Hole 15's basket says PRACTICE. I suspect the 15 basket was lost or stolen and the practice basket relocated to the hole 15 "green".

Pros:

Really nice course. Some extremely long holes to really test out your power throws. Very fun layout. Lots of sun.

Cons:

Low lying area for a few holes results in a swampy marshland. Few boxes are natural and not the best. Layout could be posted better. Tons of potential.
