Has It's Flaws, But Don't We All? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 3, 2021 Played the course:once

Pros:

A church course with plenty of character, New Life has a nice amount of difficulty in multiple areas. Elevation and some distance control forced by OB, you'll get a good all-around challenge here.

Maintenance was just as good as the rest of Emporia's courses. Whoever does this (volunteers or the church) does a good job keeping the fairways clean and the OB long but not impossible to find a disc in, and also keeps the OB marked very well.

To make a course this good with so little space is an impressive feat, even if it has it's issues. Two loops of 9 was the right call, even if some of them aren't that different from one another. I don't doubt that the course designers could have made something special with a little more space.

Having multiple baskets was a good choice when they did it. Getting a little alteration to the green (or a major one on 6/15) keeps it from getting too bland.

Having 9/18 finish out the course with a longer, uphill hole is a good way to end off the course.

Going to mention the OB again, because without it the course would not be as good as it is. Pretty much all tall grass is OB, and the times it sneaks real close to the green can steal your birdie quickly.

Cons:

There aren't any holes that stand out above the rest. The downhill on 3/12 is probably the most memorable hole, but it's not difficult at all. There's not real forced forehand/backhand lines, so as long as you land in-bounds you won't be challenged getting there. No hole does anything to separate itself from the pack, unless it's for the wrong reasons...

Holes 6/15 are not good. You're playing plinko with 50ft tall tree trunks. While it is a nice hole to look at, playing to either green will quickly become a nightmare.

Some of the holes play right along the property line which has a wire fence all around. Erring too far off the fairway on seven of the holes will have you climbing for your disc. Be careful.

Even with two tees, 3/12, 4/13, 5/14 (two different baskets on this one), and 8/17 feel a lot like the same hole

Having three different basket types on the same course is... odd. DisCatchers, Veterans, and Patriots can all be found here and while not too much different, the mental game could be rattled a little.

Other Thoughts:

This is a fine stop on the outskirts of Emporia, but don't be looking for an outstanding experience. Those can be found in the city. It makes an excellent warmup/cooldown course (though I recommend Hammond Park for that), and it manages to be difficult even if not memorable. I wouldn't call this a must-play course, but it's definitely not one to avoid.

Great course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 6, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Mixture of short tight throws and open throws. Front 9 is pretty short with the back 9 providing more of a challenge. Beautiful layout, trash cans on several holes, a little outside of town so not very busy most times, very cart friendly.

Cons:

When the OB grass is long it can sometimes be very time consuming to find a disc thrown OB.

Other Thoughts:

This course has a lot of what you're looking for if you want to play a fun casual round. There are only a couple of different holes where the lines are pretty set, other than that there are a wide variety of lines to take to get to the basket.
