My First 4 Plus Rated Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

- Variety of open, wooded holes. Several open tee pad throws to wooded baskets and wooded tees to open basket.
- Gully/ravine holes in woods offers throws at all angles on journey to basket, and putting.
- Scenic wave effect in the open fields. Caught some swirling light winds for some beautiful flights.
- The wooded holes and those baskets placed in the woods from open tees requires placement throws to survive the hole. The type of disc golf I enjoy.
- Concrete pads in the hilly wooded holes a plus for me.
- The difficult course will give you an evaluation of where you stand with your skills
- Great signage posted for forward pads. Red flags on top of baskets easy to see.
- Grounds including open fairways very well kept.
- Pro shop offers more than a dozen variety of Innova discs for sale. Lowest weight I saw was 159g.
- The Rangers are very accommodating. The park opened at 8am this past Saturday. I drove thru the open gate at 745. Office wasn't opening until 9am, sign on door said go play and pay later. Very flexible with guest.
- I enjoy history, and the park has some civil war history. Theirs a redoubt along side the no. 9 fairway.

Cons:

- No signage on back tees, with out scorecard you wont know the distance, but you'll at least walk past the forward tee pad and know the location of the basket if your playing for the first time on course.
- Blue flags on top of baskets not easy to see in woods. But I understand the historical significance of using the color.
- Winter months the park doesn't open until 10am Mon-Fri. If you show up at 745am like I did, you may find the road gate still locked? You can still play, after hiking in about a mile.
- This is not a beginners course, also need to be in decent shape for the woods.

Other Thoughts:

It took me until my second round to enjoy the course and appreciate the difficulty it offered. I spent the first round overwhelmed, its the most difficult course I've played, but fun. The first round is my longest so far, it took 90 mins. Had a difficult time finding the no. 10 basket which had a blue flag in the woods. Also spent some time finding the opening for those baskets in the woods, with tees from the open to prepare myself better for the second round. Here's some notable holes:
-No. 3 420/583 ft caught a swirling wind towards the basket both times on the second shot. Always beautiful to see the disk swirling, rising and lowering a few times. I've only seen that on an occasion at Munden Point in Virginia Beach on holes 2 and 13.
-No 4 is the first straight down hill hole I've played in my short time with disc golf. That was fun!
-No. 5 302/360 in the woods is uphill dogleg right, with a hook at the end to right, too the basket. The right side is block by trees. I know I'll par the blue one day, not so sure about the closer red.
-No. 12 elevated tee pad in woods, ravine, elevated landing area for a safe short tee shot, again a ravine. basket on side of hill. Thrilled both times to make my placement throw from tee, only to have my approach hit a tree both times and disc slide down hill. I'm going to get by those trees one day.
-No. 15 shared tee pad at 302. Tee pad is evaluated with ravine on right and in front. I felt like I was on a perch. Fairway down steep ravine and back up toward basket. Huge trees on left on side of hill, don't miss right, disc will slide a long ways down.

The course is my measuring stick, on my progress in disc golf and I like the challenge. I plan on visiting every other month. Its about an hour from my home.

In my opinion:
-Signature Hole is No. 18 669/804 ft par 5, its the way a finishing hole should be tough! Not lay down like a lamb, like the other courses I've played so far. It reminds me of championship courses finishing holes when I played in tournament ball golf. Elevated tee box to a wavy open fairway, when the green grass returns I would imagine scenic. From the tee, hug the tree line on the right side to cut down on distance, keeping to the right of the yellow foul pole on the far left side of fairway, further than the distance to the baskets. The opening to the baskets in the woods is about 200ft to the right of the foul pole. When you cross the dirt road, that crosses the fairway. By then you should be able to see the red flag on right just in the opening of woods, blue flag deeper about 150 feet straight into the woods. When foliage returns it will be more of a narrower approach.

-Trouble hole no. 16. 348/420 feet. From the tee pad it doesn't look to bad. Its straight down with tree lines both sides down, but wide enough. I was able to hit my target area both times around in the fairway. If your a big thrower and don't know the hole you may want to lay up and not find your self in the ravine and the deep gully. The second shot you know theirs a ravine ahead of you, but the problem is what's in it. The red flag sits on the far side of the hill straight, just above the deep gully. The blue flag dog legs left, also on the far side of the hill, but on the top portion of the very shallow end of the ravine. From your safe second shot, you'll find the total left side of the fairway blocking a short cut to the blue flag with large and small trees. In the ravine/gully there are large and small trees blocking the approach to the blue flag. Except on the far side of the hill, the same side where the flag sits. A right to left throw along the far side of the hill is your line. The closer to the flag, the more likely the disc is able to stick to the hill. Theirs a fallen log just with in the putting area that can be used for a good target. Falling short will block your next shot to the blue basket with trees, and the ravine funnels into the gully. That is steep to get your disc, and will be a tough throw out of there. Over time, the gully looks like it will grow bigger. When the foliage returns, it will be a more difficult hole.

A Bit Out of my League 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 2, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course is awesome. Everything is kept up quite nicely. The holes are marked well. The tees are all cement which is nice, and they are level and flush with the ground. This course was a huge challenge for me as I am not that great at Disc Golf, but it was a great learning experience. You are far enough from everyone else that there are no distractions. The wildlife is pretty cool. The elevation changes are awesome, and add a whole new dynamic to my game.

Cons:

I have no cons.

Other Thoughts:

I found a disc out there and got it returned to the owner. Label your discs if you plan to play out here. There are a lot of thickly wooded areas and we almost lost a disc or two out there. This was a tough course for me, but it let me know more of what I need to work on. Bring bug spray. I didn't check, but it would be neat if the office sells refreshments. It can get pretty hot out there.

So, DGCR says there are three baskets and two tees. The two tees were there, but they had taken down the white and blue baskets. They did just have a tournament out there, but I am not sure if those baskets are only for tournaments. I tried using my scorecard app, U-Disc, and it was consistently about ten to 12 feet off on every basket. Not sure what that is all about.

Three dollars if you live in York County, five from outside the county. Still a fair price! Lots of merchandise.

New Quarter - a great experience for my 100th course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 21, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Two large, smooth tee pads on every hole but one (#15 had some terrain limitations), the tees are flush to the ground with a nice transition of gravel.
Great tee sign at every tee, showing the layout, dual baskets and distance from both tees. There is even a name for each hole.
Chainstar baskets are all in good shape.
Perfect mix of open and wooded holes, with several starting or ending in the woods. Generally, the holes come in pairs, 2 open, then 2 wooded, really keeps it interesting and wondering what's coming next, at least the first time through.
Also, great mix of uphill and downhill holes along with right and left turning holes.
Benches on most of the tees for a break on this challenging course. I played the short tees and did not feel overwhelmed, it is playable for most all players.
Isolated from the rest of the park, only a couple of holes near the road, and a good chance to see wildlife (it was deer for me). The course is on a great piece of property.
Nice pro shop with plenty of discs for sale (most, if not all, were Innova). Restrooms and water available at the parking lot.
8 AM park open did NOT mean 8 AM, I got there earlier and drove right in (do you hear me Bill Frederick in Orlando! and Seneca Creek !?).

Cons:

Thinking, thinking, hmmmm...
OK, maybe they could use benches at both tees, but not a huge issue.

Other Thoughts:

Really enjoyed the opportunity to play this fabulous course. I thought my plans were going to be dashed when I arrived and saw the 8 AM opening sign. But the gate was open and the ranger was cool with me starting and paying when I was done.
You know it was an awesome course when you can remember every hole 4 months later, and especially your favorites:
#3 - after 2 open holes to start, this one has an open drive, but then you have to hit a gap in the trees, then downhill to the basket.
#8 - completely in the woods, and rather short, but with a steep dropoff behind the basket, so take a run at this one at your own risk.
#11 - back in the open field, group of trees in the middle, pick your own route to the basket.
#12 - I love a course with an "Oh Sh**" hole, and this is it. In the woods, tee shot has to clear a small ridge, through a gap, breaking left that drops away to a valley once you clear the ridge. Pretty sizeable drop in the fairway, then the basket is halfway up the next ridge, very fast green.
#16 - last hole in the woods, good sized fairway that again drops down to a valley with the basket just on the other side.
#18 - fun, long finishing hole, Par 5. Wide open fairway to let it rip one (actually two) more times, then the basket is tucked into the trees. The basket was in the long position for me, made this hole even tougher.
The Ranger (uniform and all, county employee) was very cool. Told me to take as long as I wanted looking through the merch, even pointed out some NQP stamped discs, picked up the Leo3. He was more than willing to talk about the course, offer snacks and tell stories of others who had been through. I wonder why this isn't listed on the "Shop" list on this site?
Another course that had been on my wish list for a while, would have no problem paying the $3 a day, or annual membership, if I lived in the area.
The quality of the park, the challenge of the holes, the amenities available all made this a great experience for my 100th course!!

Excellent wooded course with elevation. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 12, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course combines mature forest and elevation in a very challenging and fun way. About half of the holes are tunnels with a combination of open areas and wooded areas in many of the others. Most of the more open holes require hitting specific lines, with some holes allowing right or left turning lines to reach the basket. Many of the tunnel shots also allow both right and left turning approaches to the basket.

Elevation comes into play on several holes with both downhill and uphill throws. There are no true "top of the world" shots, but there is significant elevation around the basket on several holes. Hole #8 is probably the best example with a hidden steep slope just to the left of and behind the basket. If you fly by the basket, your disc is going a lot farther. Hole #12 also has significant rollaway potential as do several others. Hole #16 is a 420' tunnel with a dropoff at the end. If you can hit your line, that dropoff may help you get very close to the basket. I hit the line the first time and then missed a 30ft putt.

There are two sets of tees for every hole. While the longer tees add distance to all the holes, they are also thoughtfully placed to subtly (and in some cases, not subtly) change the line. There are also multiple basket positions for every hole although the baskets were in the same position for both my rounds.

This course has a number of holes that require right turning shots with some requiring distance in excess of 300 ft. Right handers should be prepared to throw some forehand shots that end hard right.

Most of the holes are at least partially heavily wooded. There are definitely some holes that hitting the right line off the tee can be the difference between a 2 and a 5. But there is nothing about this course that is unfair.

The park office, where you pay your fee, has a good selection of Innova discs and sells bottled water and soft drinks. There are bag hangers at the short pin positions.

Cons:

There are a couple of holes that are mostly wide open. Hole #18, from the long tees, is just over 800 feet, most of which is across a wide clearing. As an ending hole, this one feels a little long and lackluster and similar in style to holes #3 and #7.

There is more apparently available elevation than is being used on this course. However, not knowing what restrictions the designers faced, I'm in no position to second guess. They certainly did an excellent job on the existing layout.

Make sure to grab a map at the park office. There are some minor navigation issues that the map clears up very well. There are no signs at the long tee positions and no way to tell from the tee what position the baskets are in, HOWEVER, you will be told this at the park office if you ask.

Other Thoughts:

After playing both the long and short tees, I think the short tees are the most fun. Some of the holes lose a little too much of their challenge in the short position, at least for the red tees that I played. I highly recommend playing both tees if you have the time.

In my mind, the holes that really shine the most are the tunnel shots, with all of them being top quality, challenging and fun holes.

This course is pay to play with an insanely cheap $3 all day, making this the best value of any fee I have ever paid to play disc golf. Bring insect repellant that will work on deer flies. There are no bathrooms and no water on the course. Both days I played, I was the only person on the course.

Gem of the Area 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 20, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Two textured slip resistant tee pads. Two pin positions (a pro and a con for me) Amazing Staff in the office. Nice supply of innova discs to buy and they will let you try them out before you buy in the field behind the office.
Course has a wonderful mix of open holes and holes in the woods as well as birdie holes and holes where a par is a great score.

There are a few benches through the holes to sit down from time to time, bag hangers at every hole, most holes have them at both tees. There are nice plaques with hole info at every hole, the holes also have nice little names. The course also winds through some remains of a battle field, which is a cool addition.

Cons:

Not the fault of the course, but ticks and chiggers can be found here regularly. Often times late summer the fields get neglected a bit and the grass gets high, helping breed said bugs. (the office always has free bug spray sitting outside for people)
The alternate pin position is much more challenging on most of the holes, often times adding 100 feet or more to the hole. A few of those long baskets are pretty unfair (number 8 is directly next to a 10 foot deep ravine, which is nearly impossible to get in and out of if your disc finds the area) I think the course would greatly benefit from purchasing another 18 cages and having both pin positions available on every hole at all times. I avoid the course like the plague when it's on the longer positions, just takes the fun out of it for the recreational player.
Hole 5 might be the most difficult par 3 I've ever played, it requires an large anny or flick with tons of bend but only about 150 feet, then the same shot again to get to the cage. small gap in the trees. hate that hole

Other Thoughts:

Ive played this course literally hundreds of times. The nndg club helps maintain, and they are wonderful in many ways, but their deviant long pins are far too difficult at times.
All in all this is a great course to play. If you are a newbie or a consistant over par player at an average course, this place may be too tough for you. It really requires a great mix of great shots to shoot in the red figures. My best is 55 from the short tee and short cages, but occasionally find myself shooting close to 70, there is tons of trouble to be found.

one of VA's best! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 13, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

The entire area is gorgeous and the park is no exception. Beautiful rolling meadows with woods in the background as you drive in and the course takes it to a whole other level of scenery once you get into the woods. It's a long course so you'll get a good workout too.

This park is maintained to perfection. No trash, vandalism or any signs of neglect. Very well cared for course.

Grippy concrete tees and the tee signs are excellent. Dual tee pads for playing to skill level. The holes appear to have more than one pin placement to add some layout variety.

Navigation seemed adequate but not perfect. I was lucky to have a local guide so I may not have paid as close attention but it didn't seem like we had many long walks between holes but we did double-back slightly once or twice. Overall the holes seemed very well spaced.

Perfect balance of open/wooded style holes, with excellent use of elevation throughout the course on both wooded and open holes. I used several different discs and required lots of shot variety to get up and down these fairways.

Nice park office staff and pro shop with snacks and refreshments and restrooms right near parking area.

Cons:

uuhhh... I had to walk maybe 700 feet from parking lot to hole 1 start? Maybe a con for lazy people? :)

Only other thing worth mentioning is that in the woods there is some elevation that could send an errant shot downhill off-the-beaten path a good ways. You could be punished by having to hike down off the fairway deep into spider & snake country to hunt for your disc. Luckily I didn't have to stray far off the fairway but I could see it happening on several holes.

Other Thoughts:

I played late afternoon from long pads in beautiful summer conditions. I bumped into a couple of guys that had played the course a few times and they became my guides.

I really enjoyed the hole diversity. Airing it out one hole, then throwing a tight wooded line downhill or an uphill dogleg.. this course had it all. I think the hole diversity and overall beauty of the holes and the course as a whole really make this a fun and memorable place to play.

A few really memorable holes but hole 18 particularly was a great way to finish. A long monster of a throw from inside the woods out to slightly downhill rolling meadow and end back in the woods again about 1000 feet away.

This is a solid destination course and my favorite attraction among all that Williamsburg had to offer, which is a lot in itself! Plenty of other cool stuff to do in this park as well. If you're serious about DG, you simply must play here if passing through or checking out Colonial Williamsburg. You won't be disappointed.

The Total Package 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 15, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The course is separate from the rest of the park, allowing you to focus completely on your game.

The environment is very pretty and extremely well kept, especially considering the small fee to play ($3.00).

The holes are long, varied, and flow extremely well with the soft rolling hills of Williamsburg. Some in the open fields, some in the woods, some in and out; there's no lack of variety here.

The holes are quite long and you really have to take a second to plan an effective approach or you'll find yourself wasting shots. I think this course is great for developing a more serious game considering the challenge of getting 400' from a field down through tight woods in only 3 throws.

Cons:

The only real con I could come up with is hole length. Some of these bad boys are pushing 400-500' and still are expected to be par 3. For a beginning player, it can become quite frustrating to fall short of par EVERY hole.

Other Thoughts:

I wish this course was closer to home. It is really a remarkable environment that offers a perfect afternoon of disc golf!

New Dollar Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 9, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is probably one of the best maintained courses I've played with well groomed woods and huge mowed fields. Dual concrete tees, dual baskets, excellent signage....but more importantly. Just amazing caliber of disc golf shots. This place really surprised me. Big open field holes and true fairway golf through dense eastern hardwoods. Elevation drops and gains. Shots from the open into the wooded abyss, out of the woods into the open, par 3s and par 4s and a huge finishing hole that requires distance and then some line threading back into the woods. I really was impressed and rank this course right up there with all the National gems. At times you feel like you are playing on a ball golf course and at times you feel like you're playing appalachian woodlands golf. Just a pristine park and best of all it's disc golf only turf so no interference from other parkgoers. You will need to throw far to do well here but theres still enough obstacles, strategy, gap hitting, and line hitting to keep it very cerebral and interesting. I really am bewildered that this course hasn't gotten as much attention as some of the higher rated DUDs on this site.

Cons:

Despite the array of really amazing holes none of them really stood out.......however this is the sign of a high caliber course as there are no filler holes and every hole pretty much brings challenge and beauty at you simultaneously. No water for the water shot nerds out there. I truly cannot complain...hell after playing the 1 mile hike out of the park during the off season seemed like I was walking on air...

Other Thoughts:

Again I'm tempted to throw a 5 on this course but it just lacked that 1 hole or 1 shot that burned into my memory......this is perhaps the best public disc golf in Virginia and IMO has what it takes to host a high quality NT event. Do yourself a favor and make the trip or make the time to play this course.

Pros:

New Quarter Park is an impressive park with tons of activities. It has walking/biking trails, sand volleyball, basketball, softball, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, and access to the water. It's a very well kept park with restroom facilities.

There is a small clubhouse near the parking lot. The $3 fee was a bargain. The workers were super nice and supply you with a score card.

The course has a great mix of open and wooded holes. With all the other activities in the park they did a great job keeping it isolated. It has some nice elevation in places. The woods punish you but it's not that bad locating discs. It's very clean and well maintained. It has some great variety with a good mix of traditional par 3 and newer par 4 golf. It depends on if you play the long or short pads and where the pins are located (short or long). I threw a lot of different discs and lines during the round.

Awesome short & long concrete tee pads.

Multiple Pin positions on each hole.

Very descriptive tee signs. Bag holders.

Discraft chainstar baskets which are in great condition.

Cons:

The tee signs are only located at the short tee.

The pins were located in all the short positions the day I played. There were some very awesome looking long pin positions. This course would be an ideal candidate for a 2nd set of permanent pins that are a different color.

Other Thoughts:

If you are on vacation and headed down to Virginia Beach or the Outer Banks this is a must play.

I really wish I had this as a home course. It has everything that I want in a course. It's fun and challenging.

-the Flags are tall above the baskets so that you can see even the blind throws
-Pro shop has disc to purchase and a great variety of Innova.

Cons:

Really interesting woods shots
Very well maintained course, very easy to navigate with the map provided for me. They also provided score cards for free.
Really can't stress how awesome the wooded holes were, they had clear cut paths to the basket that were very small, but doable by a fairly skilled player.
Each hole has 2 tees and 2 basket placements (although only one basket was up on each hole)

Cons:

Construction going on atm, made it a bit hard to concentrate.
The area is full of ants so watch setting your bags down

Best course close to Hampton Roads 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 6, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I'm from Norfolk, So I've played all the courses around here. My DG buddies agree this is our favorite "hard course."

First off, the park is beautiful. I'd go here just to birdwatch or have lunch (it is in a bird sanctuary). Getting to throw a nice shot as a big turkey vulture dramatically swoops overhead while a family of deer watch from the treeline is pretty darn cool.

The course is long. We wore a pedometer once and played through twice... we covered just over 7 miles of ground. Add that to the elevation changes, and you'll get a nice light exorcise playing this course.

Speaking of elevation changes, they are great. Left and right turns going up and down over wooded terrain. The course snakes in and out of the woods. From power long shots to delicate wooded finesse shots, New Quarter has them.

My buddies and I aren't experts by any means, and we all agree this is the "hardest" course for us, as far as making par. When we first started playing last year we played all the holes as par 4. We still couldn't par. Now we can get close to par, playing the actual course pars... so this course has definitely made us better players.

All in all, if you are from the Hampton Roads area, drive the extra 10 min down the road from the Newport News course and give this one a try. You'll enjoy it.

Nothing but good and friendly interactions with the rangers.

Cons:

The walk in is long (usually... see below).

A few pads are hard to find the first couple times you play.

Other Thoughts:

Sometimes the gate is closed and you have to walk about a mile to get in. Sometimes it is open and you can drive right up. We talked to a ranger and made sure it is OK to walk in when the gate is closed and she said it is fine.

1 of the best in Va 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 13, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

-Great use of landscape
-Half woods/half field shots
-Great mix of left and rights anys/hyzers
-Love the flags on the baskets plus they are color coded so its easy to see which basket is in place by the sign/flag.
-Equal amount of bombs to technical shots.
-Good score cards
-Store inside with custom stamped park discs, but just Innova stuff.

Cons:

-Lost just a few times but thanks to the score card not a huge deal.
-Some of the signs are a little misleading to where to throw especially when multiple baskets are in one field.

Other Thoughts:

One of the best courses I've played on the east coast. I played the short tees and the layout that day was red pins front 9, blue tees back 9. I shot +1 the first round and an Even on the second. Difficult but not impossible to put up a good score if played a few times. Will be back very soon to play this course!

Probably not an objective review... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 26, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

So...Like the title says...I'm going to TRY and be objective, but this is my home course, and the one I first learned on. NQP is the bar by which I judge others, so to speak. I am not affiliated with the park or the club responsible for this course. I am merely a local player.

That being said, here is what is good about this course:
It's reasonably secluded from outside noises and interference. The course is very long...we mapped it at about a 3.5 mile hike using google My Tracks, and the total elevation change was something in the neighborhood of 3800 feet. She'll definitely give you a work out. There is a great mix of holes, ranging from hilly, open, wooded, right breaks, left, straight, etc...There are bag hangars at the "normal tees" for each hole. All tee boxes are large concrete pads, and each hole has a sign clearly depicting to layout and mapping the pro tees, should you so choose. There are some mandos, and both long and short holes. It's a very dynamic course, making great use of the topography. There is a practice green at the start of one that's nestled in the trees, allowing for you to practice bad lays as well as straight up puts. There are trashcans out on the course as well, and the park office features a pro shop with an excellent assortment of plastic, bags and apparel, as well as snacks and drinks. They also rent/loan discs out for those that are new or weren't able to bring their own, and they will order you anything you want out of the Innova catalog. Also, they have color maps/scorecards in the office and pencils as well. The grass is always mowed and, for the most part, the course is relatively clean, although I have found beer bottles and such stuffed in stumps and the like. If you're patient and know where to look, it's pretty easy to track down missing discs...I've yet to lose one on this course. Also, if you're a returning player, Irene has altered a number of the holes, so it's worth getting back out and checking it out again. I've been told this is one of the best courses around, and I'm happy to call it home. Also, although it is popular, this place is never slammed, and it's big enough that multiple groups can play without issue. I've also been out and had the course entirely to myself, despite it's popularity. This is a nice, long, enjoyable course.

Cons:

Cons...$3 a day/$25 a year. Not really that much, but it's something. It's worth it though, this course is great. Also, we bring a lot of first timers out, and the guys at the park have been known to waive the fee the first time, as we have about a 95% conversion rate of getting our guests to go ahead and get season passes and start playing. There aren't any water hazards. The only other bad thing is that this course can be a little confusing if you are new to it, and you don't have a scorecard/map. The office isn't always open, but it only takes a couple games to get it. There are multiple cage locations, but they only change them once a year. It's basically short config for all of summer, then Fall Colors tourney, then long config for winter, when they switch to weekends only. It would be nice if they had both cage configs set up, or at least moved them around more often. Also, hole 4 turns in to a flash flood in a hard downpour. Ticks, mosquitoes and mayflies were TERRIBLE this summer, but the guys at the office always put out a bottle of OFF in case you forgot to bring it.

Other Thoughts:

The park staff is great, the course is great...it's a great place to play. I've shot with people that consider this a 'destination' course.

Another thing...a couple people mentioned the winter schedule that has the park closed in the winter. There is parking at the gate, and you can hike in any time you want and shoot, but beware; it's a pretty good haul to get from the gate to the first tee.

On Vacation 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 14, 2010 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I played this course every morning on vacation at Colonial Williamsburg. It is a very nice course with great fairways and demanding wooded holes. I was more than happy to pay the daily fee because it was obvious the course is well maintained. A very enjoyable experience.

Cons:

Very little to say on the Con side. I really cannot think of anything worth mentioning.

Other Thoughts:

If you are in the area, this course in well worth your time.

Vacation Goodie 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 28, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Worth a stop if you're in Williamsburg on vacation or driving through.

Costs a couple bucks but you get a course map and you can purchase just about any disc you want from the main office.

These holes are some of the TOUGHest I've played but it was a blast to figure out. I played 4 times from the red tee and all but 2 holes where par 3, only the most experienced players should bother playing from the advanced tees. I would advise playing from the red tee if you only get one shot at this course...it will challenge you.

Challenges include distance, elevation variation and heavy foliage. Many of the holes start in the forest and end in the open terrain or vise versa. Accuracy AND power will be necessary to have any shot of making par. Watch out for the trick basket placements. You'll see the basket through the trees, throw the perfect shot and scowl as you get closer to notice that there was a steep incline behind the basket that left you out of reach from birdie...multiple holes fit this description...you'll know them when you see them.

They put great care into this course, it's well designed and you'll want to use every shot in your arsenal to have a chance at breaking even on this course.

Cons:

TICKS were mentioned and I second that. I usually bring my dog with me but would recommend you leave yours at home because they will get ticks.

GPS has a difficult time finding the park...it's worth it to figure it.

You gotta play here! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 10, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Friendly staff
-Very well maintained
-Great mix of challenges
-Beautiful location
This course is about 45 minutes away from my home but it is always well worth the drive. The holes have every kind of hole you can wish for except one. No water hazards. That's the only reason I couldn't give it a 5 disc rating. The first hole is a nice open warm up shot. The second goes straight then hooks to the left behind a grove of trees. The third is a long bomber that ends in the begining of the woods. Then, you step back out and around for a super fun down hill shot in the woods. Then back up hill in the wood and around the corner to a very well hidden pin on the crest of the hill. And the whole course continues like this. Open fairways, the stuffed into the woods, down hill, then up hill, open area the in the woods again. This course keeps you on your toes. Make sure to bring water and wear bug spray. You will not be disapointed in this course.

Cons:

-Ticks

Other Thoughts:

Great pro shop with an awesome selection of discs and a knowledgable staff.

Pros:

first off, props to the locals who obviously take pride in their course. this place was clean! the signs are very descriptive showing elevation changes, next tee and all distances. the park is very well maintained with great facilities including a pro shop in the ranger station with loads of goodies including star discs and innova markers with quarter park's(very well designed) logo, even loaners for the noob you should be bringing along... the holes are layed out very well! requiring every piece of plastic in your quiver, grip it and rip it or tight aceable holes, plenty of open and wooded holes and playing in and out of the woods... this place is fantastic, double tees with benches and bag hangers, I will stop so to not ruin the experience!

Cons:

cons?....new quarter being 10 hours away from my home is the only one that comes to mind

perhaps signs at the long tee would improve things? maybe make 18 a par 3, I 4ed it easily. the parking could be a little closer I guess..the flags were missing on quite a few holes

Other Thoughts:

I absolutely love this course second only to ceder hill in nashville and thats a real close one. I can not express how pleased I was with the service I received from the park staff and the great time I had playing this one by myself. I travel for a living and play new courses weekly, not knowing your way can be challenging, but a local scout troop has installed bag hanger posts with a red topper which makes finding the next pin easier than anywhere Iv played. very convenient! the fairways were very well maintained and the woods were not thick at all. each pin had a ball golf type flag sticking out of the top of their chainstar baskets making them easier to find when over a hill or behind a thicket. trying to keep this short since I hate long reviews.

BOTTOM LINE
go outta your way to play this one! by far the best in the area, extremely obvious someone put some thought into this course
