Flat and Open

Pros:

North Baltimore is a sleepy little village in rural Northwest Ohio. The village park provided a space for a relaxing round, but the course itself is lacking in several areas.

+ Starting with the positives, beginners will have an easy time playing here. Every hole is pretty much wide open and flat with generous pars.

+ There is an old-school tee sign marking the beginning of every hole. These have a simple hole map, distance, and par.

+ #3 is actually a pretty fun hole. Longer throwers will have the option for a water carry, with a high risk-reward factor depending on how much water you decide to throw over. Beginners can take the route around the lake, but will have a few trees to contend with along the way.

+ It was a 78° Saturday afternoon, and I was the only one in the entire park. It makes me think that you should have at least the course to yourself most days, and maybe even the park.

Cons:

- Nearly every basket was leaning a little bit. There were a couple that I was able to prop up, but I'm sure that was a very temporary fix.

- With very isolated tree coverage and basically no elevation, this course will get boring fast.

- The design isn't great. Multiple fairways cross each other, and a few walks between holes pretty much go up the entire fairway of the previous hole.

- There are no designated tees other than the signs that are posted.

Other Thoughts:

North Baltimore Village Park is a decent little place to practice and maybe bring a pure beginner. Otherwise, you'll sleep at night being able to skip this one.

Flat Fast Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 6, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

North Baltimore Village Park is in a small section of land , and has a 9 hole disc golf course . There are small pockets of parking at different spots in the park .
The Equipment : The tees are natural . The signs are the old style you see in the 1980's or so , but are clearly legible . The baskets are the Machs , with numbers at the top , There are dirt circles under the baskets . I didn't see a bathroom open , but there might have been one closer to the ball field .
The Landscape .The park was mowed and looked well taken care of when I was here . This course is even flatter than the baseball field . Do you know how I am sure ? At least the pitchers mound has some elevation . The park does have a cement walking trail and a lake , which will only come into play on hole #3 . You are enticed to make the 240' + throw across the water , but the sign says to play it like a dogleg . Okay , Whatever . There is also a cool caboose from a train that is the backdrop on hole #8 .
The Highlights . None here . The water carry would have been pretty fun , but ,,,,, All holes but #3 one are pretty much a straight shot . No real obstacles here are going to alter a shop much . There were a couple of trees , and a telephone pole on front of you on the 375' 9th hole . The 350' #8 had no obstacles , but it was fun looking at the caboose behind it .
Time : I played this course before 7:00 am on a Monday morning .After finding the first tee , I went through in about 25 minutes .
Disc Risk . Taking the small body of water out of play made this course a near zero in losing your disc . Unless you clipped a tree near the water and it miraculously spun in , you can't lose your disc.

Cons:

Safety : Even before 7:00 on a Monday morning , I was encountering park life . A walking trail circles the lake creating a firing squad atmosphere in places like #4's tee . A guy walked right in front of me , which is fine . You might have kids wandering over in front of you on holes 1,3 and 9 , if there is a game going on . The course is relatively new , ( 2018 ) so many might either be curious , or oblivious .
Navigation . Navigation is pretty easy once you find #1 . Everything stays left . The only wrinkle is coming up to #'s 6 & 7 , which have tee signs about #0' on the side of each other . You might miss playing a hole if you aren't paying attention .
Challenge . They aren't a bunch of 200' holes , but the sparse amount of trees and absence of obstacles makes this course just a throw and walk straight ahead . Tedious and repetitive . The course has no elevation and one sort of dogleg .
No amenities . Did you think there was going to be ?
After a good rain , playing here will be a swamp . Plan accordingly .

Other Thoughts:

I am not trying to be too critical of the course . The community has embraced disc golf and put a 9 holer in a small park . You can't alter the flat part , but you can safari a few holes to make it interesting . This might be a great way of introducing the game to the curious . Cut your teeth on a course like this , then graduate to Van Buren , then Panther 335 .
My Recommendation : Decent enough to introduce the game to the newbies , and satisfy the 1 disc players and families to bond after dinner .Decent locals and up will drive to 2 nearby courses within 15 minutes . The traveler will be okay here . The flat course is easy on the legs and is right off of I-75 . The Course Collectors will salivate over a course that is literally going to cost them 35 minutes total from the interstate , and has a lot of choices to combine it with .
Only play this course if you need to fill a void , otherwise , nothing much here . .
