- A 9-hole course settled in a state park with scenic views of Kerr Reservoir, which could come into play. The course itself meanders thru woods with some partially open space. Rolling hills offering some elevation coming into effect from the tee or passing thru the fairway approaching basket. From the tee some gap play, a tunnel shot, and guardian baskets with a roller.

-7 of the 9 holes are 200 plus, and the other 2 holes 300 plus. There is one Par 4, the rest Par 3's.

-Tee signs have hole number, Par, distance, next tee, and a basic map. Patriot baskets are solid!

-The course can be wind dominant it was blowing 15-20 mph on the reservoir side of the course holes 1-7.

-Navigation is clockwise and theirs a next tee indicator in the basket. There's a course map at hole 1 tee location.

-From the bag on the tee mid's, fairways, and drivers.

-Disc Golfer's with an RV there are hookups and 6 premium spots. To the first tee, and ninth basket just a one-minute walk.

-Beginners and Recreational will find the course manageable and a possible good score. Intermediate and Advanced can run birdies with well-placed tee shots.

-The basket location on the tee signs is off on a few holes. #2, 4-5 baskets are further to the left as much as 75 feet on #5. Hole #9 is on the other side of a tree line to the right past C2. Udisc shows the location off on holes 4-5. Holes 4, and 9 are blind from the tee.

-The tees are markers, but some were buried by deep leaves, and I teed off next to the tee sign. Teeing off on natural grass wasn't a problem but did a lot of kicking leaves to the side to avoid slipping.

-Holes 8-9 were the most challenging holes, the rest just locate the basket and skilled players may find holes 1-7 very scorable with interest, but maybe looking for something more challenging.

-Holes 6-7 play close to a park driveway, in a possible busy summer keep your eyes peeled. The park is also popular with joggers there were a few that passed by along 6-7. I would imagine with busier park days you may have walkers passing thru the fairways.

-Lost disc potential can be high. A wild throw on 2 could make the lake, an untouched tree could make the water on 8. Heavy brush along 9 could swallow a disc along the fairway you can't see. Hole 4 is to a blind downhill basket with brush behind the basket. On a December morning there was still heavy leaves on the course.

North Bend DGC I would imagine when there's foliage in the warmer months is very scenic including viewing the reservoir from elevated fairways. When I played in December it was a dark and dreary day with fog over the water, and stripped trees which put me in the mood of going thru the motions or it seemed like it. Despite the feelings the course is a pleasant walk, and the disc golf was good enough to enjoy, and 8 and 9 got my attention. I also thought how nice it would be to have an RV with a Disc Course just outside your front door, there were a few parked in the primo spots. The biggest personnel con was the errors on tee sign maps on basket locations on those few holes. I was able to catch it on #2 seeing the basket from the tee, and on the blind #4 the shape of the fairway showed a lazy dogleg left. Only got burned on #9.

My overall rating is going to be anchored on a 4.0 with scenic and wind play, solid Patriot baskets, and a few challenging holes. The time to play was 25 minutes taking pictures.

Notable Basket Placements:

-No. 4 is hidden from the tee on a downslope into the woods, the slope is at least 100 feet, and the reservoir is at the bottom. Its one of the baskets with the wrong location on tee map, aim left center fairway.

-No. 5 is downslope from the tee thru trees which block the view. Just behind the basket is a tree shaped ready to be used as a hangman's tree just missing the noose, may not see that in C1 anywhere else. This also was one of the baskets not placed correctly on the tee map. The only reason why I found the basket as I was looking for it to the right was that the hangman's tree caught my attention on the left.

Notable Hole:

No. 9 Par 4 at 376 feet is a fairway that is a straight away up a hill, the hill downslopes at about 200 feet. The fairway is lined with heavy trees both sides with gaps small as 7 feet, the fairway opens on the downward slope still with trees both sides. The tee map indicates basket is left side of fairway next to an ob. road, but it's not, its about 100 feet to the right in a clearing off fairway with guardian trees. The wall of trees on the right goes all the way to within C2. I hit a tree at about the 170-foot mark and roped my approach to where I thought the basket was, but to my surprise I was about 80 feet left of basket.

Signature Hole:

No. 2 Par 3 at 255 feet is a lazy dogleg left to a basket placement that is about 30-feet further left than the tee map indicates. You can see the basket but had me wondering about the basket locations on the rest of the course. From the tee the fairway downslopes to about 170 feet out, then upslopes with the basket on the ridge. To your right is a scattering of trees, to your left is heavier trees with the reservoir behind the trees. Righties are more likely to hit the water on an error throw. Not seeing tee markers under the leaves, I teed off from the sidewalk, with a 12-foot gap between a left tree and a wooden rail fence to the right at about 30-feet out, the fairway opens to about 25-feet wide. You'll see a large tree right center at about 150-feet out, the lower branches will be about your height. Keep disc at the height of the fence post and that should keep you under the branches. As a lefty I threw a nice draw, but just a little to low and hit the upslope. The hole looks out over the water and is the most scenic hole on the course, and was the tee throw with the most fun.

Trouble Hole:

No. 8 Par 3 at 320 feet is a straight away downhill hole all the way to the basket. The tee is in the open, the basket in heavy woods with canopy. The fairway all the way to the basket slopes right to left towards the water. The gap to the woods is about 80 feet out and about 20 feet wide, the fairway starts to narrow and about 100-feet into the woods closes to 6-feet wide and doesn't open much after that. The trees on the left are thick and should stop an errant throw from reaching the water, but there are gaps allowing a disc to bad luck thru. The basket has guardian trees for further protection, and if not for heavy leaves a possible roller thru gaps to the water about 100 feet away. The tee shot is one of the more difficult ones I've played on a 9-holer, and awkward with the down angle trying to stay below canopy. I hit a tree on the right at about 170 feet down, its very tight for an approach, and ricochet towards the basket to the left.

Brand new Dynamic Patriot baskets. These are very nice and easy to see, especially on some of the wooded holes. The tee signs were pretty good too, most (but not all holes) were in sight from the tee, but the tee signs helped with those out of sight.

It's a good layout in the campground, swimming beach, amphitheater area. There is a paved walk/bike path through here, connecting those areas and several picnic areas, but the holes kept away from interference pretty well.

The holes range from partially open to tunnel shots. A few downhill shots, including a basket hidden over a hillside (#4, be sure to spot to basket after playing #3), but no uphill holes, #9 tees uphill, then levels off to the basket.

Some good work was done to install this course, you can see where underbrush was cleared away, a few trees were brought down for fairways and orange pavers were placed to mark the tees. Natural tees are not anyone's favorites, but for a course in about a year, they started with the important parts, and hopefully fill in the rest.

The natural tees can be a little uneven, but usually there is enough area for a runup. A couple of holes (2 and 6), you can use the walking path to tee from. #4 and #9 are a little small or obstructed.

#9 could probably use some more clearing, up the fairway, although the only Par 4, it's still has an awkward approach to the basket, after a tunnel drive. I played it twice and may have figured out the best route, but still not sure.

#6 plays downhill through a tunnel, or you can throw a spike hyzer over the walking path. So they might want to add a Mando, or at least signs of caution.

Pretty new course in this recreational area of Kerr Lake. There are great views of the Lake from #2, #3 and #8, but more on that later. It's great that the COE worked with the Southside VA DGA to put in this course, you can tell experienced players worked on the design.
Since this is (almost) the first review, I'll take a quick rundown of each hole:

#1 - short opening hole, slightly downhill, through scattered large trees, finishing left.
#2 - challenging hole, over a ravine (that has been cleared out) then up to the basket by a large tree.
#3 - mostly open drive, then the basket is behind large trees, finishes left.
#4 - open drive behind the picnic shelter, to a basket hidden below the crest of a hill, it is cleared beyond the basket, but not too far.
#5 - short downhill throw through a tunnel, then finishes right and next to a large tree.
Now you are at the furthest point out, #6 turns and heads back. This would be a great place to add 9 more holes, open areas along the entrance road, wooded area nearby, then you link back into #6.
#6 - another downhiller through a tight tunnel, or a big hyzer shot over the walking path.
#7 - mostly flat, through scattered large trees, pick your line.
#8 - best hole on the course, tee from a small rise above the road, then the tee shot goes across the road, through a fairway carved out of the trees, to a sidehill basket above the lake. The view from here is the best Dam view on the course!
#9 - just uphill from #8, uphill tunnel shot, then the basket is hidden to the right, with at least two paths to the green. Finishes fairly close to #1.

Really good use of the space available to add an amenity for the camping and lake visitors. It would be great to see more courses like this, in outdoor recreation areas with good maintenance teams on staff. I did not have to pay to the play the course, but that could change during busy seasons.

Holes 1-8 are under 300'. 9 is at 330'. A nice Federal recreation site. Parking and restrooms at the beginning. A nice sign board. Tees have signage that is readable.

No specific tee box except for 2 markers for the foul line. Earth or cement pathway.

Every hole has trees on it. Your technical placement and disc choice play well here. 8 and 9 are the toughest. 8 throws across the road and into a diminishing alley of trees. 9 is a blind uphill throw to the basket behind a clump of trees. Early in the season, through April, no fee. After May 1 approximately, $5. This is a park entry fee, you can picnic, swim, boat, fish. Throw all day long. This is on the Kerr Dam recreation site. Very limited choices in this area for courses to play on.
