Don't review this course and start complaining about it's short distances, it's lack of challenge or it only being a nine hole course. It's not designed for you, Mr. DGCR course reviewer. It's not designed for recreational level golfers or pros or even us senior type players. It was built and designed for youth golfers. To me, that means elementary and middle school players. Beginners will enjoy it, as well.

The course was put in under some kind of a joint agreement with the Y and the USYDGA. That's United States Youth Disc Golf Association for us un-informed. The baskets are USYDGA models. They might be called USYDGA Disc Hunters. They might also be called Shaquille O'Neal. I don't rightly know. I do know that they are a little on the thin gauge side, they're a little too tall and elongated which gives them a certain strange look but they are a pretty blue color. And they're perfect here.

The little nine hole course is situated behind the main YMCA building. It has youth friendly distances (81 to 188') and youth friendly challenge. Any recreational player should be aiming for a minus 9 here. I suck ( -8 ). The course features nice concrete tee pads and although they are a tad short at eight feet, little run-up is needed here. The signs are excellent enclosed in a wooden frame with all the needed information and sponsors for each hole.

There are just enough challenges and interesting throws here to keep, even us adults, coming back, whether it's having to throw through/over a couple of pine trees on the 130' # 1 or putting a soft touch on # 8's 153' little anhyser tee off.

I have to agree 100% with previous reviewer Dadio that the biggest con here is the navigation. I also spent a decent amount of time wandering and trying to locate the tee pads. Like he states, a on-line map would really help. But so would a simple little navigational aid like taping the bottom rung that points toward the next tee pad. I don't believe these baskets are being moved monthly so the tape would always point the way.

Note: The # 7 tee pad is next to the five large poles with the tires at the bottom. I wonder what these mysterious poles are used for? Some kind of sadistic YMCA ritual where children are chained to them and somehow horribly abused? And I was just about to shower some love on this little course!

This short course is behind the YMCA in north Spokane, set in an area with hills and a variety of trees. The course designers made good use of the terrain in this fairly limited space to create a variety of shots that will be interesting and challenging for new players. There are both up and downhill shots, one pin on a hillside, doglegs both left and right, and a minor tunnel drive.
Pads and tee signs are well done.
Because of the variety it is a good course to practice your short game for more experienced players.
The baskets were Disc Hunters, a slightly smaller 2 chain basket I hadn't see before but caught well.

The biggest con is two part. 1) No course map and 2) In order to get the good variety of shots hole placement and course flow is not natural. Add to this a lack of indication of where next tee is makes the course hard to figure. I spent more time trying to find the next tee(or one I skipped on accident) than I did throwing. The tee for 2 is hidden behind a berm. 4 is behind the same berm as I discovered after playing 3, 5, and 6, realizing I had missed one. I had to backtrack, found the pin but took 20 Minutes to find the tee since it was in such an unexpected place.
There is no water or bathrooms unless you are a member.
Only other drawback is cheatgrass.

Not a bad course for what it is. If I lived closer I would gladly use it as a practice course. I hope maps are available for members. Torn on rating, It is well done for variety of shots but lack of navigation aids and water hurt.
I think a 3 with the understanding that it is a short course aimed at beginners. Any beginner that learns here should be well prepared for regular courses.
