A Lot to Offer at Every Level

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 5, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

--Two tees x two baskets per hole makes for a variety of options from 3100 to 6200 feet

--Excellent signage

--DD Veterans are in excellent shape on the Blue/Red options

--Good workout: more elevation change than many MN courses

Cons:

--Pay to play

--Mach III's on the White/Purple are pretty worn

Other Thoughts:

With a 2:1 ratio between the longest and shortest options, this is a course that can cater equally well to 200 and 400+ foot throwing arms. If you're not a fan of the Mach III's, you still have two choices with almost 2000 ft of total length difference between them.

One hole (#8) stands out for its, "Well, I didn't see that coming" factor. The short and tall baskets are stack mounted with the tall option, fittingly, atop the shorter. I would be more inclined to like it if the upper basket weren't tipped about 15 degrees off of vertical.

The other standout is #14, a 300+ foot pond carry from an elevated tee. There is a narrow but potentially usable bail out area to the left of the water if you don't think you'll make it all the way across, but I think the pond will eventually be so full of discs that you'll be able to walk across with dry feet.

Signage at NV is exemplary, including an actually helpful map for those holes where the tee shot is blind, as well as elevation changes for each of the tee/basket combinations. Whether you play the course long or short, you will still get a bit of climbing in.

This is a solid course--definitely one to check out if you're going to be bagging around the Twin Cities.

Pros:

North Valley DGC is another new layout at this park. I had played the old Valley layout twice before making it back to check this one out. The holes on the south side of the road have been replaced with a full 18 hole course on the north side. Hence the name change too.

There's two tee pads on every hole. Both are concrete and and poured well. Many of the shorter tees are just that, shorter. The longs are nicely sized for the most part. All the tees get the job done though. There's a couple that use the sidewalk as pads too, so it's really a mix of concrete and asphalt. No issues with these.

Two permanent baskets on every hole. The longs were generally nice new red, white and blue DD Veterans. The shorts were the older Machs that have been here for years. A hole or two had these flipped around for some reason. The Veterans are highly visible and caught great. The Machs are showing their age a bit but still caught pretty well. Between the two different tees and baskets placements theres an incredible amount of diiferent play possibilities out here.

The course is mostly park style but there's still quite a few nicely to moderately wooded holes to mix things up. They do tuck the baskets up into the treeline on holes 16 and 18 to make them more challenging on the green. Hole 14 is the classic water carry that'll never be replaced no matter the number of redesigns here.

The design is really well done for the limited space available here. The flow from hole to hole is very easy to follow. The next tee arrows on the bottoms on the cages certainly help but you'll be able to find your way around just fine without them. The course starts and ends by the parking lot where there's a porta potty and large kiosk with a course map.

The tee signs are nicely done here. They feature the hole #, pars and distances for each basket, any OB and drop zones and even the elevation loss/gain from tee to pin. On top of that there's a pretty solid hole overview map. These are all mounted on large 4x4 posts that are painted with a white and blue line on them for the longs and purple and red for the shorts. Nicely done with these.

The course was in excellent condition yesterday, and has been every other time I've been here too. Besides the walking path the course plays in a pretty much DG exclusive section of the park.

Cons:

With the redesign a few of the first few holes feel a little cramped and have fairways that play extremely close to each other. Holes 2, 3 and 5 are the main cuplprits. Hole 3's tee is in play while playing the slightly uphill hole 2. Hole 4 is kind of weird too. You play toward the edge of the wooded section and then have to walk all the way back up the fairway you just played to get to hole 5.

Pay to play. I think. It said on Udisc that a donation s recommended. The sign on the kiosk made it seem like it is mandatory. There's no pay box with envelopes and I didn't see a QR code anywhere either. Instead we went to not one but THREE different websites, none of which had a working link to anywhere you could pay. We just played it for free instaed of wasting anymore time. If you're going to require payment you ought to make it accessible.

The course is a very popular one, for good reason. That being said it can get really crowded out here. It has been on every visit, two of which were pretty cold out later in the fall. Expect delays in peak hours and possible backups though.

As mentioned in the previous review, the stacked basket is pretty gimmicky. Wasn't a fan of it. The top basket was leaning pretty heavily to one side and isn't going to catch great.

Other Thoughts:

This is not an improved version of this course imo, but with having to remove the holes across the road I feel like this is about as good as could have been done. Still a worthwhile play without a doubt though. Not the top course in the twin cities but should be checked out if you're nearby. It's just a pretty fun course, and is great for all skill levels.

North Valley, great park and yet another layout.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 18, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

The Valley in its current layout is an 18 hole course with two baskets per hole. Great distance variety, nice teepads and baskets with the older DGA something and the new DD Veterans. Scenic course in a bowl of a park. Hyzer, Straight and Anhyzer shot shapes required. Some fun elevation to deal with, not typical for MN. Hole 12 has been a consistent fun throw over the pond.

Cons:

I think it was hole 8, basket stack. I've seen this this before and am not impressed. (maybe I'm salty about hitting chains and rolling 80' downhill but still...) New hole 4 I can't support. Throw away from the next hole, retrieve your disc then hike back...

Other Thoughts:

The Valley has had different layouts over the 15 years I've been playing the park. Previously I'm pretty sure it was an original 9 hole design from CK. I enjoyed the holes across the road in the last iteration but am glad to see the park still in play.

Beautiful park and I'm happy to have the privilage to throw my frisbees in it.
