Tournament Only, but not hard enough for that drive by

Pros:

You probably won't get mugged here, given it's a church. Beyond this, I have nothing good to say.

Cons:

A head's up, the jpg map for this course on this site is out of date or simply wrong. It has hole 1 where hole 11 actually is. Don't use it.

This course is unplayable alone. And by this I mean even if you know where your disc left the fairway, you won't find it unless there was a spotter within 20 feet of it at the time it landed. The roughs here are ABSURDLY dense. I found two discs while looking for mine (which I never found) & they were only a few feet from the fairway. I saw them, the owner never did. It's that bad. So, maybe a great course for tournaments with lots of spotters? Nah. Even the long tees would be little challenge for genuine MPO players (except the few where the fairway isn't really a "fair" way under the guidelines).

Despite endless rolling ridges, ponds & creeks, the drainage is horrible & several baskets are set so low you cannot avoid walking in standing water. Bring boots. They built bridges in a few places but they're too short to actually span the problem. Never mind if you simply landed a disc in the giant puddle.

Other Thoughts:

As this is a church, I'll give the benefit of the doubt and assume the course designer isn't a sadist whose goal is to make people's lives miserable. Generally speaking, I am deeply grateful to course designers for improving my life by putting in time, effort & resources to build courses.

So presumably they've never designed a course before & it didn't occur to them to seek guidance either from experienced designers or by consulting the guidelines.

This property is massive & has a ton of open land. The open land includes ponds, trees, hills, all the things you need for a great course. Instead they set this course so for one third of it there are parking lots in play (ruins discs, risks hitting cars etc), one third is in woods with fairways so tight and not straight I suspect even Paul McBeth could not throw par and the final third is in a marshland which eats discs, ruins shoes & simply doesn't make for enjoyable golf.

It's a shame. This course could be amazing. But I'll definitely never play it again & will encourage anyone I hear considering it to stay away.
