Great Course for a Beginner 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 7, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-There are nice concrete pads at each tee-off.
-The baskets are well numbered.
-Nice signs to tell you where to go.
-Nice elevation changes to make the course interesting.
-The fairways are longer than most in the city parks.

Cons:

-Came in an evening where there were no scorecards left in the box and the office was closed.
-You have to pay a $6 fee for a day pass. If you visit the state parks on a regular basis I would opt for the annual pass at $25.
-Very buggy as all the trees block the wind needed to blow them away.
-This course is in the picnic area so on a weekend, it is busy!
-The course needed to be mowed badly, but the campgrounds were nicely mowed. Don't know if it was an off day or if they like to keep the grass a little bit taller on this side of the park.
-Some of the grass was completely worn away near several of the baskets so it was mud from a recent rain.

Other Thoughts:

Some of the holes have you play around a shelter house and there is a picnic grill in the middle of one fairway. You have to watch it if other people are using the picnic area. On a weekday, I don't see this being a problem. There are no water hazards. It is wooded so you dodge trees through most of your playing. I do recommend this course to beginners like myself as this offers something new and different than the very short and flat fairways at city parks in the area. However, a map is a must as there are two baskets close by each other. With the longer fairways I saw the one and not the other. I ended up playing the wrong basket and didn't find out until I got close to it.
