Ocean County Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Excellent Disc Golf course with a nice variety of wooded and open shots. Good signage and well kept. Not too many spots you can lose discs.

Cons:

Park can be busy, but Disc Golf Course is usually clear. Some Geese around.

Other Thoughts:

Not too difficult.

Beautiful course in a nicely maintained park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 1, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

So many great updates since I started playing this course! Expansion from 9 to 18 holes. All the main tees are pavers and alts are flypads. Very well maintained and great signage. Good variety of open and wooded holes. Many of the open holes have well placed baskets near trees and OB that help keep the course interesting. A hanging basket and raised basket are also great features.

Cons:

The only con I have is when there are multiple basket placements, like on hole 1, an indicator of which location it is in would be helpful

Other Thoughts:

Formally a property of the Rockefeller family, this is a beautiful park with many non-disc golf activities as well. Some may not always know a course is there, so be mindful of patrons in the area before letting your plastic fly.

OCP! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 27, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

OCP is a great course for all skill levels. It has great paver tee pads, it's well maintained, has great Innova Disc Catcher baskets, and some beautiful shots. The course has recently become a full 18 hole course from a 9 hole course. Recently they have moved a few pins making the course different each time you play. Ocp has 2 leagues. 1 in spring and 1 in fall. It is an overall great club and a great course. Go & Throw!

One of the best in NJ 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 5, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Awesome mix of throws, obstacles, and lengths.
Challenging for beginners and intermediate players.
Great for working on different types of approaches/new throws because of a lot of open fairways.
Always well-kept and a very nice park.
Practice basket.

Cons:

Some holes don't have the best throwing routes.

Driving a car in the area can be a little frustrating on Sundays...

Other Thoughts:

I enjoy the open field, long holes for big drives. The mix of technical, tight shots and long, big-arm drives is awesome.

Beautiful Course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 2, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Lots of long holes for huge drives.
Interesting pin placements.
Gorgeous views during your walk.
Holes not crowded with trees for me to bounce off.

Cons:

None for me.

Other Thoughts:

I would love to see more holes as this is a huge area with tons of room for more. I didn't see the extra "woods" holes others talked about, but I wish I had. I also wish I had more time to stay and play this course over and over!

Beautiful Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 11, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is a beautiful course, with a nice flowing layout. It's got several challenging holes, with some having long distances, others having water hazards, and tricky basket placement. The surrounding landscape is really nice, too.

Cons:

It's only 9 holes. Hopefully the good people who made this course, can expand it in the future. Until then, I'll just play it twice, or three times.

Other Thoughts:

Now I'm off to work on getting more distance from my drive. See you out there.

The First Course in Ocean County 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 21, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

18 hole course (with dual tee pads on some) in beautiful Ocean County Park in Lakewood, NJ. Primarily open course with a few peeks into the woods and mature trees scattered throughout. Nice Innova Disc Catcher baskets. Good sized, 5 x 10 tee pads with paver surfacing. Good distance and hole variety which should appeal to all skill levels. Features a couple of elevated baskets, one of which replaced the old hanging basket (still trying to get over this loss..) Water and pavement OB areas come into play and challenge players on several holes. Navigation is pretty easy with very visible "next tee" signs near each basket. Permanent signs now featured at all 18 holes. Many holes have large log benches. Amenities like bathrooms, picnic areas and water fountains are on the premises. A "lost disc" box, plastic bag dispenser, scorecard box and welcome kiosk greet visitors at hole 1, which has been nicely landscaped and enclosed. Park grounds are generally well maintained.

Cons:

Due to damage from Hurricane Sandy, the removal of live trees was not possible during construction. Pedestrians and park patrons will be a factor from time to time when playing. Area high schools use part of the grounds for Cross Country. Not much elevation- welcome to the Jersey Shore. A few low lying areas collect water after heavy rain, and erosion is a factor on several holes. Geese droppings can a bit of a nuisance. Wind can wreak havoc on your round here.

Other Thoughts:

The Ocean County Park disc golf course represents years of hard work and commitment in providing a sorely needed, quality course to the Jersey Shore area. This is a really nice playing experience here, and the local following is tremendous. Many people are responsible for the outstanding level of care that has gone into the course, and park officials have been easy to work with and very supportive. Though honoring Cubby's original layout plan limited wholesale changes in design, some new holes, including some in the woods were incorporated. Other little changes occur from time to time to enhance the course. New signs and newly painted posts are featured at each hole, and slowly, some of the original log benches which are now crumbling are being traded out.

Though it is a reasonable criticism to suggest the course is very righty-friendly, it is NOT unfair to lefties. No fewer than 10 holes require essentially straight shots off the tee and could be considered neutral at worst. OCP is easy to traverse and is a nice course to play because it has challenge without throwing players into a meat grinder. Come to the Jersey Shore, hit the beach in Point Pleasant and drive 15 minutes inland to OCP for a couple rounds of disc golf!!
