Pros:
OVERVIEW: This is a fairly new 9 hole course with both short and long tees on most holes. Very open fields with no shot shaping to speak of.
AMENITIES
Parking--plentiful
Bathrooms-yes, seasonal
Water/food nearby--yes in Lakeview and Russell's Point.
Clubhouse/disc shop-no
Benches-no
Trash cans-no
Bag holders-no
Tee signs-yes
Next tee direction/signs-yes but not usually pointing the right way.
Wheelchair/cart friendly? Yes, yes, except the damp areas--see cons.
PROS:
Nice views of lake on first few holes.
Not at all crowded.
Typically windy off lake, so you can get practice throwing in wind from different angles (can be a CON to some).
Lots of recreation on/near lake, which is quite scenic.
Cons:
Short, rubber teepads that can stay pretty slick. Slips while planting on two of them made it hard to trust the others.
Fairways were damp when we played, several holes had 1-3" deep water in a few spots off the fairways.
Very straight fairways, no shot shaping at all really.
Not sure who the intended user is--holes are too long for most beginners, a few holes reachable by rec players, but the lack of hole shaping would bore int or better players quite quickly.
Very long walks on a couple holes.
Narrow fairways for length of holes
No variety on holes at all.
Other Thoughts:
Baskets--Discatcher, seem OK.
# holes--9.
Elevation-none.
Distance of holes-from 225' short to over 500' long.
Free to play, state park.
Easy to get to.
COURSE PLAY
Shot variety--none. All straight shots, virtually no obstacles except on hole 7--a few trees.
Layout--one loop, but a terribly long course for 9 holes (over a mile walking), two very long (like 750') walks- one between holes and back to hole one after hole nine.
Ease of finding next tee--OK on most holes, but will need Udisc or copy of course map after hole 5--long walk toward right along path gets you there eventually.
General difficulty--medium, but only because of length on some of the holes (if all played as par 3 from short tees). Could be quite difficult if one wanted to play anything off the fairways as O/B.
Mud/water issues--quite a lot, a few days after last rains.
Water or O/B to contend with--just casual water.
Difficult rough/lost disc risk--very low when we played, but maybe when grass is high in summer, quite high, because for the lengths of the holes, fairways are NOT that wide.
Scrape/scratch risk--low.
How busy was course/park--no frolfers, but several at the beach area and walking around the paths.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
Fun/enjoyment factor, would I play again? No.
Will challenge who? Not sure who would find any interest. It does test one's ability to throw straight, but does not penalize errant shots unless the grass is tall in the summer. Too long for a beginner, too mundane for anyone else.
Worth a drive? Only to a bagger.
Anything unique? Just the lake setting on a few holes.
Would be a half star higher with…not much you can do with wide open fields that stay damp. Better teepads and a more compact design/length would help a little.
I am in my 50s, 70 or so courses played, 875ish.
