Pros:
I played this course with low expectations and came away pleasantly surprised.
This course begins in a moderately wooded area bordered by a pond and an open field near some baseball/softball diamonds. The first six holes play in the wooded area and are reasonably challenging. Water comes into play on the first hole.
The last three holes are mostly wide open with distance being the primary challenge. I think holes 7 and 8 are both over 500 ft., with 7 being over 600 if I recall correctly.
The tee pads are made from rubber circle mats. They are approximately 5x9 and have good traction. They are perfectly adequate on the shorter holes. There are tee signs at every tee, plenty of garbage cans and the course flows pretty well with only one tee in which it might not be apparent which basket to throw at.
This course is approximately 1/4 mile off Hwy. 165, the "main highway" through Olla and you can actually see the park from that highway. It's as easy to get to from 165 as you could ask.
Cons:
Holes 7 and 8 traverse a large field and are wide open. This field is apparently the parking lot for the baseball/softball diamonds and this could create some problems.
The tees are a bit small on the longer holes but because they are such low profile, it's not a problem to start a run up behind the tee box.
The #4 basket is difficult to spot from the #4 tee, but the #2 basket is not. This could create some confusion. Just remember that the #4 basket is to the left and difficult to see. Don't throw at the obvious basket straight ahead.
This course looks like it could hold some water after rains but it was dry when I played.
Other Thoughts:
This course was a pleasant surprise. This is easily the nicest 9-hole course that I have played in Louisiana. It offers much more of a challenge than I expected. It is well worth a stop if you are traveling between Alexandria and Monroe, but I wouldn't detour off I-20 or I-49 unless you just really want to bag another course.
