A Challenging Nine at the High School 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 14, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

Variety. This course has elevation changes, woods, open shots, doglegs, and water hazards all packed into 9 holes.
Challenge. One hole dares you to throw it over the lake for a birdie or go to the right of the lake for par.
Risk and Reward. This course rewards good shots and severely punishes bad shots. Bad shots can end up in the water or very high rough.
Bridges. Not all the bridges on this course are complete, but will really help in the navigation of this course when completed.

Cons:

Rough. Because of the thick rough and water hazard, it is easy to lose a disc on this course. I lost a driver myself. The fairways were mowed, but the rough was tall.
Only 9 Holes. If nine more holes of the same quality were added, this course would be tournament worthy.
Distance from other Courses. This course is a long drive from any other courses to just play nine holes.
Flow from #2 to #3. I had to walk back to the #2 tee and enter the woods to find the tee for #3.

Other Thoughts:

I was pleasantly surprised by this course. When I first saw that it was on a school's property, I expected some randomly placed baskets with short fairways. Quite the contrary, the course flowed very well and required many different types of shots. Because of the challenge and the rough, novice disc golfers may not enjoy the course as much as someone with a year or two's experience. Owen County High School's disc golf course could serve as a model for future courses located at other high schools around the state. I recommend playing this course if you are in the area.
