Better Than Expected! 2+ years

Pros:

+ Painesville Recreation Park is a very large park that hosts a variety of activities from baseball, to skateboarding, to hockey. The disc golf course has been expanded to 18 holes, and it's very solid with the space given!

+ The ammentities are top notch. Concrete tees, beautiful colored tee signs, and DISCatcher baskets. The tee signs are awesome, so hopefully no vandals get a hold of them.

+ Very good place to take a beginner, while advanced players might find some tight, but intriguing risk-reward opportunities for a shot at a deuce.

+ The park has a river and a pond and the design utilizes both on a few holes. Beginners are able to take an alternate route to avoid them, while more advanced players can really go for it all. These holes were very fun and well designed.

+ There isn't a ton of elevation to speak of, but when there is, it provides for a few memorable holes. #9 is extremely tight and plays off of a cliff, which is the steepest elevation drop in the whole park.

+ The course is intertwined with tons of other activities, without being dangerously close to them. It's impressive that they fit 18 holes in this park without any major danger or without it feeling congested.

+ Makes two 9-hole loops. Both #9 and #18 end pretty close to the parking lot. The lot is large and easily capable of hosting a tournament.

Cons:

- Most of the holes are about the same distance, somewhere between 200' - 320'. Even though all the holes are par 3's, they stand out from each other pretty well.

- Wasn't a fan of #7, the fairway is just a closed down gravel road. The hole is only about 170' straight ahead.

- The park was pretty empty for a nice afternoon, but I imagine pedestrians might be troublesome on busier days. Holes 1-5 and 14-18 would be your best bets at waiting for pedestrians to pass by.

- Only one set of tees, I think there's room for another set but that's a whole different project that I'm sure isn't going to happen for a while, if ever.

- The holes around the pond are just ridiculous in terms of goose crap. #16's tee is caked with it, so it might be best to wear some older shoes if possible.

Other Thoughts:

I was thoroughly impressed with the course in Painesville. Lots of memorable holes that appeal to both beginners and more advanced players. I'd say it's a course you should visit if you're in the area, because there's not too many around Painesville.

18 holes now! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 18, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

18 holes, accurate tee signs. Lovely park. Course evolving, very fun round in mostly open, often crowded park. Locals very good about returning discs!

Cons:

can be muddy, but I hear concrete tees are coming soon! tees can be tweaked, next tee signs needed in couple spots, other park users still learning wtf we are doing out there

Other Thoughts:

GPS to this address: 33 Mill St., Painesville, OH, 44077 (Painesville Recreation Park) otherwise it will take you to a entrance that has been closed for years and is no where near where you go to enter this valley!
