Take me to the top

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 28, 2023 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good mix of open and wooded holes. The wooded holes have some sweet lines and you will need a full bag of shots in order to score well here.
Elevation, elevation. This course uses the present elevation very well. Most of the holes throw uphill, but there are a couple of down hill shots as well, Hole 6 and 18 come to mind.
The signage is good and provides you with the appropriate information. Tee pads are ample allowing for a proper run up.
Solid mix of short, moderate, and longer holes.
A and B basket positions to keep things from getting stale.
Roll away threat is very real here so running your putt might not be the wisest thing to do...but that make a good story right?

Cons:

Navigation is a bit confusing for the first time player. Holes 2 & 8, 3 & 9, and 13 & 14 are close together and sometimes the pad you think would be the next one you'd be teeing off from is another hole. Using the map or a scoring app with GPS helps with this.
Having some next tee directional arrows, or painted rungs on the baskets might help with this issue as well.
Long walk from 1's basket across the parking lot to 2's tee and again from 18's basket back to your car slows the flow of the round down a bit.
Be careful not to overthrow the basket on Hole 18 as your disc could end up in the BMX track.

Other Thoughts:

Overall this is a very solid course and a fun play. The elevation will test your leg strength and endurance, especially if you are from the flat lands like this dude. I didn't feel like I was going to pass out or anything but it was noticeable and that's a good thing.
The holes in the woods weren't so tight that it was poke and pray and there were well defined gaps to hit.
I liked that there were also some open holes like 1, 6, etc, to help balance things out here.
If you like elevation and woods then this is a great course to test your skills and stamina. Its a solid play for sure.

Hillside Fun 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 27, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

A very nice course that make good use of a wooded hillside in an unused area of this multi-use park.

Most of the interest comes from driving up and down the hillside. Hole 6 is a big down hill drive over fairly open ground, with a basket down in a grove of trees.

Holes 9 and 10 play straight up a powerline right-of-way, so they are narrow and steeply uphill.

Holes 13 and 16 make good use of a ravine, with 13 throwing to a basket perched on the far edge (position A) meaning that a short drive leaves you down in the ravine.

Hole 16 (position A) places the basket right on the ravine edge with a large drop-off behind. Even a 20' - 30' putt presents an interesting risk/reward. Miss the putt long over the edge and you are probably 3-putting.

Large paved parking lot with a clean restroom nearby. Teepads for Holes 1, 2, 7 and 8 are all near the parking lot and restrooms.

Tee pads are rubber mats that are flat and level, and large enough for a modest run-up. Many of the pads are built up on raised timbers to level them on sloped ground.

Two pin positions for most holes.

Tee signs are descriptive showing the general layout of the hole and location of both pin positions.

Cons:

Hole 1 seems oddly out of place on this course. It is placed between the tennis courts and parking lot, and a large area of lush mowed grass. It is a drive across open ground to a fairly exposed basket. The next 17 holes are on the other side of the parking lot and on a wooded hillside. Odd that they couldn't get an 18th hole over there.

A few of the basket locations are hidden from the tee, and there is no indication which location the baskets are in. So walking up is necessary on a couple of holes.

Navigation is pretty easy, but taking a map will help on a couple of holes with intersecting paths near by.

Other Thoughts:

I've played twice on weekdays, and seen two other DG'er out there.

Lots of Fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 16, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice signage
Lots of elevation change
Makes you use all discs in your bag
Multiple shots that are just fun to throw extras on if you have the time
When I went, not very busy
Well built pads (wish they were longer)
Mix of power and touch shots

Cons:

I didn't see the note where hole one was. Spent a long time looking and started on Hole 2
Teepads too short
Hill on 6 can be a pain with the grass
Couple fairways intertwine, during a tournament I can easily see this slowing down pace of play considerably

Other Thoughts:

My girlfriend and I came to visit family in Coeur D'alene, I picked a couple courses to try and play on during the drive and during our visit. This course was a lot of fun to play. There were holes that were challenging and deceiving distance wise, but then very technical shots as well where a super straight putter shot is needed to just glide and sit. I know the mats are probably produced that length, but I wish there was just another foot to them. Most teepads I play back home are concrete and you can get a solid run up on them, a few of these pads you had no way to generate any forward movement besides the pad length. In all honesty that's really the only downside.
It was a very nice experience and I would love to play it again.

Such A Thrill In Cherry Hill Park! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 3, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Cherry Hill Park is very conveniently located right next to the freeways. This large park features ample parking, tennis courts, restrooms, dog park and an easy find first tee. There is a excellent course sign with map. The course features nice rubber flypads. The baskets are DGA models with the large red numbers. Each hole has a great tee sign with all the useful information, including sponsor. Baskets can be in either the A or B position with the B position being the longer.

As most of the course plays up and down a fairly large hillside, naturally there are plenty of uphill throws along with a couple of great downhill tosses. All this up and downhill treking makes this course quite the workout. You will know you had a workout after playing Cherry Hill.
I loved the engineering that went into # 4's tee pad area w/stairs and muliple benches. The hole itself is just a short 175' downhill ACE run with a slight hyzer needed.
# 6 is the big bomber downhill hole on this course. It's either 450/480' to a basket set back in the trees.
# 11 and # 12 were both fun little downhill ACE runs in the 200' range while # 13 was a very nifty little 180/240' technical throw over a ravine with the basket sitting on the edge.

Cons:

Previous reviewers are correct in the fact that the holes at the bottom of the hill are fairly close together. Original course designers chose to go for the big downhill throw on # 6 expecting players on 7 to be able to get out of the way. I don't see this as big problem although you do want to keep your head up down there.

Yes, the course is a nice workout. I'm 62 years old and I would keep coming back time and again. If it's too much for you, drive to Spokane Valley and play the flat pitch and putt course there.

Other Thoughts:

I played the original course a few years back and I approve of this redesign. I liked the course then and I like it more now. Kudos to Geoff on all the work that's been done here, it's first class all the way. Don't let the Naysayers bring you down, you done good!

Remodel done, ready to go 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 14, 2012 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

I like this park. While not huge they have managed to put in a fun course with a variety of shots. They have done a good job building tee pads and have taken some of the confusion out of the course with the new basket placements. The park has other amenities so kids have place to play if not throwing and could do bbq or picnic in conjunction with round.

Cons:

Remodel is off to a good start but still has a ways to go. My biggest reservation is that some of the holes, while better, are still very close to each other, especially at the bottom of the hill. The potential for being hit by a bad shot is higher than I like if the course is busy. Tee pads that are done are nice but there are still a couple rough ones. Maps are well stocked and makes course playable but there are still no signs on many of the tees. Couple of tees were hard to find from previous hole(on top of hill, 13 or 14) so 'next tee' signs would be nice. There were laminated arrows on some holes pointing to next tee. Grass is longer on meadow, not as bad as some courses I've played but still easy to lose track of disc. Baskets are hard to spot, especially ones in shade. Making hole numbers on top higher contrast(black on orange or yellow background) would help. There is a lack of garbage cans on course. There is only one long hole and it is downhill. Pros will need to look elsewhere for a serious challenge.

2017 Update: remodel seems to be done and they have done a nice job. Pads are all done, with some well done raised ones on the many hillside holes. Well made signs are on all holes. only real drawbacks are the tee pads are a little short and forest was over thinned on some holes. It needed to be done, but they took it too far.

Other Thoughts:

This is a nice local course and I am very glad to see the effort that was put into the remodel. It is one of the nicer area courses and it is worth the 45 minute drive for me to play once or twice a month. Definitely the course to hit in the Coeur d'Alene area.
