Pros:
- multiple tee pads though it's a tweener situation for me: shorts are really short and longs are pretty challenging
- tee pads were fine, there were signs at each hole
- baskets intact, some interesting stumps and green features to add difficulty to approaches
- good amount of parts 4''s
- the park is huge and really nice. Lots of parking. No one else on the course.
Cons:
- entire course was covered in standing water and mud. Thorns everywhere and thick brush on each hole.
- course layout wasn't very imaginative, the whole thing is completely flat and the holes are reptitive
- difficult to spot baskets off tees
- poor flow, had lots of trouble finding the next tees
- not super broken in, wasn't always apparent which lines are supposed to be the fairways
- the course us tucked way back into the park, took me a bit of driving to find
- lines were a weird mix of really narrow or wide open, mid sized gaps would play better
Other Thoughts:
I guess the big disclaimer is that I played this course during the winter which is probably most of the reason the course was in such poor shape. But even if there was no mud and the brush had been cleared I still wouldn't give this more than a 2. Page Park in Bristol isn't too far away and blows this course out of the water in every category. If you have time to get to Cranbury I would head there as well. But I can't see this course being a good option for any other reason than you're a Southington local and you don't want to drive too far. Finding a less flat part of the park and working in some park style holes in the open grass would have greatly improved this course as well as adding some markers after each basket pointing to the next tee.
